SUPPER CLUB - Wed, May 17th
Good Morning!
Happy Norwegian Independence Day! and now that I have my DNA analysis back and have discovered that I am 3% Scandinavian, I will be celebrating along with my Norwegian kids!
Today is chiropractor in the morning and my annual physical this afternoon. All after my daily 1-hour morning walk. Going to be a busy day!
My DDIL got a call that her mom isn't doing well at all and not expected to live long so she and my son are flying to Florida tomorrow. If you have a spare prayer with no name on it, they could use it. We won't be babysitting our little grand-dogs. They have good, friends near-by who are going to care for them.
We toured our friends' new house yesterday. Her sewing/quilting space is humongous! Two rooms, each about 12x24. The entire upper story of the house except for a small guest room is devoted to sewing. And in that guest room they have a stuffed bobcat, poised in mid spring, setting on the floor. Scottie was ahead of us on the tour and got to that room first. (I being bogged down with ogling all the sewing space). He set up an awful ruckus, barking, growling, howling and dancing around! We all went running to see what he'd found and burst out laughing when we saw him. I think Scottie was embarrassed! He left the room with us, but not before turning back to give one last warning growl to that cat - just in case . . . lol!
TINA - I did check out your plan for me to come spend 10 days with each of you, helping you to work on our projects. And I am happy do that, just as soon as my own list is COMPLETE. Of course, MY list has about 25 things on it and one more got added yesterday. But you go ahead and hold your breath. I'll be there. One day. lol!
CHICKIE - Those calves are something when eating. Can you imagine being a mama cow and having them nurse?? Well, maybe you can! lol! I understand you not wanting to give up your hair products and more because of allergies. If I were allergic to cats - or one of my family - too bad. We'd just all have to learn to deal 'cuz I can't give up my purr-babies. Every morning when I type out Supper club, my Riley is snuggled up to my right hop, pawing at my hand to pet her. EVERY morning.
JANA - what a funny story about Sarah's Mother's day! lol! But it will be the one that stands out in her memory!
LINDA - so sad that that mom isn't realizing what is important in her child's life. And sadder still, is that this is just one incident. Sounds like this is her standard way of dealing with her kids. One day she'll be sorry.
BECCA - I hope your DH's appeitite improved a little bit when he smelled that burger you made for him. You and Chickie have reminded me that I need to get some strawberries for jam soon, too!
My DGS asked if we could postpone yesterday's BBQ to tonite. We said sure, so we had eggs, hashbrowns, and salad yesterday and tonite will be our burgers on the grill, corn on the cob, and jo-jo's in the oven. I just wash and cut potatoes into quarters (or smaller if big potatoes) lengthwise, and shake them in a bag with whatever seasonings I feel like at the moment. then I bake them in the oven. I haven't deep-fried anything in 35 years.
Have you started on your supper plan yet?

Good morning! Happy Norwegian Independence Day! I look Scandinavian, but I don’t know my DNA composition. I’m sure there’s a Viking in the mix somewhere!
Today is Mother’s Day lunch with Mom and my sisters. I told them if they ordered, I’d pick up Chinese takeout. I also made snickerdoodle cookies.
Mary—I hope for a good visit with your DDIL and her mom… know it will be bittersweet. That house and TWO sewing areas!!! WOW!!! That’s amazing! I’m with Scottie on the bobcat in my bedroom! Not sure guests are welcome with that critter in there!!! I love Scottie’s reaction! Thanks for the jo-jo idea!
We have high wind warnings today, and it’s happening!!! Hold on to everything!!! My hair is gelled and sprayed in hopes it will stay on my head! If I was allergic to my babies (the Hooligans and cats when I have them), I’d just be taking allergy shots and living with it, too. Every morning Odie is snuggled up next to me. He starts out at the foot of the bed at night but migrates to my pillow at some time.
As for the calves and mama cows… the cows must be much better prepared than I am for the head butts. I’ve taken some hard blows to my milk parts, and it’s no picnic! I can’t imagine it day in and day out!!! Lint seems to know when I’m bent over the buckets with them and can get in some hellacious blows. After “breakfast” this morning, Lint was over by the pasture where the cows had come up from another pasture. I know she wants to play with the other calves and meet them, but she’s still too young to be out on her own. Blackie definitely has some health issues—she just doesn’t get around as well as Lint and never runs or kicks up her heels. She walks very gingerly, and sometimes she stumbles.
Linda—my heart broke for those children! I had incidents much like that in my childhood, and it’s hard to learn to be spontaneous and just enjoy. Years ago, Shelly was in school, and some of the little pre-school neighborhood boys came in the yard when my daffodils were blooming. They wanted to pick flowers for their mommies, so instead of getting flower heads, I helped them pick bouquets. I think both of them got into trouble and I had to explain to the moms that it really was o.k. and they had permission as well as help. I though the moms should have known when they got long stemmed bouquets. I learned it was much easier to laugh at the mess and give hugs and clean it up than to be mad. I love the sparkle in the eyes instead of tears.
Jana—so funny! I’m sure the bridesmaid bouquet was pretty, too! Love the breakfast in bed!!!
I have more strawberries. Probably not enough for jam, so I’m thinking maybe fruit leather…
Dinner tonight… probably some leftovers… rice, steak, a salad, fruit, and if I’m lucky some Chinese from lunch today. No one will go hungry!
Bon appétit!

Good morning!
Woke up to snow, about 2 inches, now most of it is melted off. We are still under a winter storm warning - it's the middle of May!
Mary - that is a big sewing area! My Batt cave spaces are about 12 x 14 each - so nice to spread out! Scottie had the scare of his little life! A Christmas long ago we bought a stuffed cat for Sarah. My kitty, Ginger, turned the corner from the kitchen into the family room, saw that stuffed cat. Stopped, hissed, arched back and all. Then inched her way over to the other cat, sniffed, and then walked off very disgusted. Sarah still has that stuffed cat and her current kitty, live version, looks just like the stuffed one.
Fat fingered thevkeyboard and posted half of this early!
Chickie - PL and Blackie soon will be needing to carry their own food out there!
I am of some Norwegian descent. My mom has our family genealogy traced back many generations in Norway. I am such a mutt - portugese, english, welch, norwegian - no native american. Then you add in what my kids are - that mix with scottish and dutch.
My girls will be here, so dinner may be out.
Next week, Kate will be singing the National Anthem at the baseball game. Sure hope we warm up!
Enjoy!
Jana

Hello everyone:
Slow day today, for me too. Woke up with nausea and did not eat until lunch. Not really sick, just under the weather.
MaryZ - What company did you use for the DNA testing?
As far as ancestry goes I know I am pretty much English and Czech because one of my grandfathers came from England and one of my grandmothers came from Czechoslovakia. The rest is a best guess, but I would say I am mostly English. DH has expressed interest in doing the DNA thing. But his will be boring because all his ancestors from all grandparents back came from Poland. He says he is pure Polish. His father actually took the Polish last name and anglicized it back in the 40's because with WWII it was not cool to be Polish.
The first boxes of Apricots, yellow Nectarines and Yellow Peaches have arrived at our favorite fruit stand. I can get a box of 34-40 pieces of fruit for $10. So today I got both dehydrators cleaned and ready to go. Tomorrow we will go by the stand on our way out to dinner and pick up several boxes. Just in time, too, we have almost eaten all of last years dried fruit.
Yesterday I spent 1 1/2 hours in a Verizon store getting new cell phones for us. DH dropped his in the pool last week and it never revived. We were going to just give him mine and I would get the new one. But our phones are so old that the store salesperson said we both really needed new phones. We don't use 90% of what these phones are capable of, so I asked for an older model, not the latest, greatest one. The data pricing has changed over the years too, so that with two new phones and a new data contract based on our low usage, it will cost us LESS each month than what I WAS paying. Sounds like a good deal all the way around. Now to figure out how to use the dang thing!
Dinner tonite was just left over pizza, my appetite is still low and neither of us wanted to cook.
Have a good evening!
