SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Feb 20th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Feb 20, 2017 3:34 am

Good Morning,

More rain today. Supposed to be a bad day, weather-wise, and then just showers the rest of the week. All in the mid-40's. But my skin is LOVING it! So no complaints here!

Yesterday I did some rearranging in my sewing room and then squared up old swap blocks. I thought I had taken them ALL south to put together but I left four quilts worth. So my UFO box isn't empty after all. Plus I got some projects planned and a list posted in there of about 12 more things I want to accomplish this year - as the spirit moves me. Quilting the quilt tops that I did get finished while in Texas this winter aren't even on the list. Guess I better make a second list. Bill doesn't quilt everything, only special things.

Bill made a bookshelf to install in our trailer over the pillows of the bed. I love his talents! I'm impatient to move my books in, but I have to wait until the stain, and then 2 coats of satin sealer dry. so by the weekend all my Mary Daheim mysteries will be ready for campfire-side reading at the ocean!

JANA - the tree hanging over our house is still there, still rotting, still taking on the weight of all the rain. The two arborists and three hazaardous tree removal guys that examined it gave it 5-10 years. We're on about year 8. I get nervous every time I think about it. Even a slight earthquake (which we had yesterday!!) could bring it down. Glad Daniel and family were able to move home, but you're right - what a potential mess CA is facing! I know they were praying for rain, but perhaps they should have been more specific . . .

CHICKIE - congratulations on your first PET grand-calf of the season! Boy or girl? BTW, how is Timi doing? Giver her an apple for me, please. Were you able to finish the comfort quilt yesterday?

IRISH - nice to have a visit with Dan and Cari, but bittersweet when Jim didn't know who they were. I love your journal idea. Not only can your family realize what it is truly like for Jim and for you, but it gives you a healthy outlet as well. Does your family know about your journal and do you let them read it? It might help a lot if they did. . . . I have a friend who loves thrift shops and most of her clothes come from them. Yet she is a professional and her husband, a retired military doctor who now teaches at a medical school, and makes probably $250,000 year. She could afford clothing from Nordstroms but loves her bargains!

JANA - I love what you said to IRISH. So true! and the same goes for BECCA as well. I'd like to think I would be as patient and as loving in the same situation, but we just never know until we walk that path.

BECCA - so sorry you are still having dental woes. I hope it's nothing more than a chronic infection and a round of anbx fixes you up.

We have owls that live in our woods. and last night they had a "hoot-enanny". This upsets Scottie no end! So then he had a "barkapalooza". Consequently, we and the cats got very little sleep. Dogs!!! Sometimes we and the cats (but mostly the cats) wonder why we feel we have to have a dog!

I think I feel a taco night coming on. We have all the fixings and it's easy peasy cooking and definitely hubby-pleasing. At least in this hubby's house. There will be no afters. There rarely is. I use my gummy vitamins for my afters! lol! Though now that I've mentioned it, maybe some chocolate chip cookies wouldn't go amiss . . . .

Got any ideas for your supper to share with us?

Good morning :)
I've been having a difficult time finding time to come on and chat. Yesterday we moved a bedroom around and have it a good cleaning, it's like a brand new room in there LOL and I vacuumed the rest of the house moving everything I possibly could then mopped and did all the laundry and tried to find my sewing room first thing in the morning until noon I hurt so bad by the evening that I thought I might be a goner but I made it through :) I'm doing bathrooms and dusting this morning and having company at 9:30 to mostly look at quilts I think and then I'll be quilting and finishing up a comfort quilt I hope the rest of the day. ..I hope I have enough batting. .. I'm piecing piecing piecing.
I think we're having burritos tonight, Frankie requested them a couple nights ago.
Oh Mom news. ... She got mad at me Saturday when I told her she shouldn't be driving and she said some oh so lovely things to me and hung up on me. I called back and she wouldn't answer so I called Dad and told him what happened and said when she decides to apologise to me and be my mom again then she can call me because I don't like that mean woman and I'm tired of being treated that way for trying to be concerned for her and anybody else that maybe a victim of her inability to drive. I talked to a police officer and they can't do anything about her driving and said her Dr would have to fill out a form and contact DMV for her not to drive and I've already spoken to her Dr and he's not doing anything. It's a bad situation.
You all have a great day!
Tina

Good morning! We are going to be 70 again, but with rain chances. I’m babysitting again for the grand-dogs through tomorrow evening. The hooligans love their trips over there—walking (daytime) or riding (after dark). We also see Ava today as well. If it’s not raining, she will walk to see Choc and Maggie with us.

Irish and Becca—I love the idea of a journal! I wish I was better at it, but I’m sure your children and grands will appreciate the time you took to write your thoughts and DHs’ progressions to help them better understand what was happening. My Mom keeps a little journal and has for years. Each year at Christmas, I give her a new Quilting Arts weekly planner, and she writes down who called, weather, visits, and quilts she worked on. Hers aren’t detailed, but she is faithful to keep her records.

Irish—so funny about your friend’s comments on your clothes and pies! There are a lot of people who are impressed that you can take a store-bought crust and add ingredients and bake it—to them, that’s amazing. There are times when I’ve used prepared crusts for expediency. Usually I just make up a big batch of crust and put it in the freezer in balls to roll out for future crusts. I always use the Libby’s recipe! I’ll keep shopping at S.A.—when I get great clothes for almost nothing, bring them home and launder them… who cares if they have been “previewed.” LOL! I’m always getting compliments.

Tina—so, so sorry about your mom. That’s insane no one will do anything about her driving… until something disastrous happens. If that happens, her doctor should be held as an accessory after the fact for not stopping her! Grrrrr!!! It’s so sad how your own mom treats you. Sometimes, even for family, you have to wash your hands and stand back. Grrrrr!!! Are you selling quilts or taking orders? How exciting!!! I did some cleaning and laundry yesterday. I have even more little doggy foot prints on the floors than when I started. I still have laundry to put away.

Mary—DH built me a station and shelf for accessories for my vacuum. Love those handy guys! I think those UFOs multiplied while you were gone! I know my projects do that here. It’s really strange… That tree is scary! They fall in our woods all the time, and if anything was under some of them… I don’t know what my grand calf is yet… black. Mama cows aren’t interested in your touching their babies and can be pretty aggressive. I gave Timi a big hug yesterday. She and #47 are such beggars and want treats all the time. #47 has been coming and standing at the gate. Sometimes she brings the new girls to show them what happens at the gate. I’m such a softie for all the animals!

I didn’t get to the quilt yesterday. Definitely today!!! Too much laundry, cleaning, walking, exploring in the sunshine to be in my sewing room. Up in the timber, the hooligans and I walked while DH sawed up a tree that fell over the trail, and there were lots of evidence of wild turkeys where they had scratched circles in the leaves while looking for tasty bugs and acorns. I hope they found ticks! We haven’t had cold weather this winter, so they are already making appearances… on us!

I made the cheesy macaroni and broccoli soup last night, and DH liked it way more than broccoli with mac ‘n cheese on the side. There is a little left for tonight as a side for some of the other mac ‘n cheese. DS2 and his #1 son were over in the boat last eve behind the house… they left their “fruits” for us. I’ll make salad and call it good.

Speaking of barkapalooza… between the coyotes and the owls, our hooligans can set up a ruckus most of the night as well. I feel your pain!!! The owls were hooting all around the area last night, and the night before we were surrounded by coyote choruses—they are so eerie!!!

Bon appétit!

Good Morning Everyone!
The quilt show is over and I am already thinking about the quilts I will make for next year. I just have one side of the quilt left to finish on the binding. I purchased a large wool batting yesterday. The one large quilt that had been hanging since Friday night still had wrinkles. If I had used wool batting it would not have been wrinkled.

Chickie - If you are hand quilting you would love wool or silk. It is just like sewing a skirt with wool it is like soft butter to sew through. I loved sewing with wool because everything went together so easily.

Maryz - Yes it is a lot of work to put together a quilt show. My back and legs were so tired by Saturday night I could hardly sleep. I did not take down the quilts this year I just sat outside until the quilts were ready. I slept much easier last night.

Tonight's dinner will be Fast Hash, Green Beans, Garlic Toast and a Salad. We went out to dinner last night and we had also gone out to breakfast so it was a very easy day in the kitchen! lol

Have a great day!

Good early afternoon from a gorgeous, sunny, warm, SW. Pa...We are really getting spoiled with this weather, it's unbelievable!

Mary, if your weather continues as it is, you'll have skin as smooth as that babies you know what...You talking about the "tree", I woke up to tree trimers on our street. I to believe the utilities send these guys out to clear away the branches near the lines which is OK by me, but gee whiz, not at the crack of dawn...And then with all the noise, I missed the UPS man knocking on the door, darn...And of course, you ask, how can I possibly miss a young good looking fellow at the door???? Well, he'll be back tomorrow, maybe in his shorts...And I'd say you are very blessed with having a hubby who quilts AND does have other talents as well....I have decided, it's best not to clean up the sewing room, I get depressed when I see all those UFOs, lol...Oh well, some day!

Jana, you made me cry but they were good tears...You have no idea how much I depend on you and all the gals on this forum...In fact, every time I walk into the bedroom and see my "comfort" quilt, I say a little prayer for each and everyone of you..

Becca, hope your day is going good...I do hate to hear about your tooth problems and hope and pray they find what's causing so much hurt and take care of it...I had always heard, girls are more active than boys, of course, that's before they're born...He's just resting up for later, lol...2 little miracles...

Chickie, I imagine your Mom's journals will be really, really interesting..In looking through some of Jim's Mom's things and even my Mom's things, I've found little slips of papers with their writing's on them...I love to go back and read through them...And, with my Mom, before she had her strokes, she traveled, all over the world, and I kept all her albums...What a treat to look at some of the places she visited and see what she wrote...Just thinking, kids today won't know how to keep memories alive, such a shame...
But, glad to hear your "beggers" are still coming to the gate...Do you have names picked out for your new baby? Enjoy the weather! Do you have clothes hanging on the line?

Tina, I can't imagine why you would be tired! My heavens, girl friend, take it easy....I agree with the others, someone should be held accountable if anything should happen while your Mom is driving...In our case, Jim just figured, it was better if I drove..(sometimes, I wonder about that, lol). There are times, when he'll say, "I don't even have a license any more"...I'm curious also about your quilts. They way you churn out those quilts, you probably have enough for a show right in your house...I also like what you told your Dad although I feel so sorry for him...But, hang in there, it will get better......

Well, being so nice today, I feel like I should (should be the word) accomplish a lot but so far, it's just been the laundry..Thank goodness we have no major uglies to do, lol...Jim is moving slow today and told me, he has to stay upstairs to watch over that young kid who is working for him...As long as he feels he's doing something, I just let him alone...I am thinking, later maybe we'll just take a little ride, just to get him outside...
For our dinner, it will be the burgers on the grill along with a packet of spuds/onions and carrots..Also have some fresh mushrooms I can throw in...AND for afters, the apple thingie is long gone (Dan needed a doggie bag) so by some miracle, our Girl Scout cookies were delivered..... Of course, our menu might change if we go for that ride, darn......

Happy eating...............

Trivia for the day:

On this day in 1792, President Washington signed an act creating the United States Post Office Department....I'll have to tell Kathy she has our 1st president to thank for her job, lol

AND EAGLE Update:

This to me is a miracle...Our eagles who had lost their nest last Sunday have built a new one AND although we can't see it on camera, there is a huge speculation that Momma has laid another egg and is incubating...
