SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Jan 31st
Good Morning,
What a nice day yesterday. We made camp at noon and whiled away a warm sunny day in a very pretty, quiet place - surrounded by tall saguaros. We even cooked our supper outside. But it's chilly out there now!!
TINA - it's so sad about your mom. Her behavior is emotional abuse. She is so lucky your dad hasn't left her and filed charges. He presents as a classic abuse victim. Perhaps everyone should give her a few days without family dancing attendance. Get that move finished, go out for pizza, watch a movie. Take a break from her. She's in good hands. And when you all go back, if she starts in again, just turn and walk out of the room for the rest of the day. When your dad or anyone else lets her engage them with her hurtful tirades, it only enables and perpetuates her nasty behavior. It might not help her, but it sure would help all of you if you break the cycle, even for a while! Please forgive if I overstep here, but she isn't good for any of you when she's like this.
CAROLE with an e - so sorry you have a cold! That Luke is so funny! Scottie would never sleep in a bed even when he was a new puppy. He just sleeps flat out on the floor, wherever he happens to be when he gets sleepy. How long is orange season? Or do different varieties of oranges have different seasons? We picked bags full of them in Bakersfield when we were heading east first week of December.
VAL - welcome! How was the potluck?
CHICKIE - Bill once told me that orange marmalade was his favorite jam, so I made a batch of it. He never ate it! It took him years to go through 9 half-pints! so I never made it again. I prefer raspberry.
BECCA - sorry you had to cancel your scan. Hope your weather is better soon.
IRISH - I hope your adventures today are good ones! Sounds like the appliances and electronics at your house are all 'taking a break'. What a blessing your neighbors, Ted & Donna, are! I'm sure they are more than happy to help where they can. Yes, Autumn mentioned home more than once this visit. she also told me that many of her friends who moved away after college are moving back and one even lives within walking distance of our house! Do you suppose the slight wistfulness in her voice was my hopeful imagination?
Today we're moving further west to Gila Bend, AZ to a campground called Painted Rocks where early civilizations left their art on big rocks. It's a desert area we've visited many times, but it always fascinates. Lots of ATV trails, too, but we don't have the RZR with us this trip so we'll just camp for the night. My BIL made rezzies for us Wed & Thursday nights at the park he is staying at in Yuma. Will be good to see him again.
Supper. I think we'll have one of my favorite camping meals, cooked outside on the camp stove: Raw fries (sliced raw potatoes, fried until golden brown), with onion and green pepper. I'll add in the last of our polish sausage, sliced, and some pork'n'beans on the side. I have salad makings, too. The thing I love about cooking outside is that Bill automatically assumes it's his job. and who am I do disagree with the HOH?? (He insists that means Head of Household. Though in my business of nursing, HOH simply means Hard of Hearing. ;o))
What's happening on your plate tonite?

Hello Maryz and all the others.
Your camping supper sounds so good. I love fried tators and polish sausage and Pork n beans. That has always been one of my favorites.
We had fried chicken breasts last night with boiled potatoes (but I cook them in the microwave). green beans with bacon as the side dish.
I was going to have DH grill them. That would have been a little healthier, but this was very yummy.
Today, I am headed out to get groceries and will make DH happy with is "forbidded" food that he is hungry for. I will have to buy tartar sauce and lemon juice and some corn meal coating to prepare his feast.
That will be tomorrow's meal, as tonight is dance night, so our meal will need to be quicker. Something like a turkey burger or maybe a Hamburger Helper.
I am not going to go to clubhouse today for beading. I have two quilts here ready to quilt, so I am going to stay home and have some fun with my sewing machine.
Hugs to all of you.
Yummy dinners are in your future, for sure.

Good morning,
Today is my DD Kelly's birthday! Don't know how I have a 45 year old daughter. Lol
She was the impossible one. I had fertility problems and took us 5 years working with a fetility doctor to get her. So, MaryZ, I know what Aut is going through. Not an easy road, but well worth it.
Not sure what we are having for dinner tonight, Could be left over DH Shrimp dish or my sweet and sour chicken. Hmmm probably that will be it. Think each one has enough for one person.
Making a three fruit jam. I made it in 2001 (don't remember it) and I wrote on the
Recipe that it was excellent. So I will making that today. Takes three days . This will be day two.
Vel, we have to hurry and get all our forbidden food out of our systems, Mary is on her way home. Lol. After she gets home we have to hide it. Lol. Silly girls!!!!!
Well I am off to make the bed an get some coffee.

Good morning!
It is foggy and cold here. I can't see the horses on the other side of my fence.
The roads are dry, so we headed off to the store yesterday. Made a traipse out of it. Some yummy PNW treat jumped in my basket, so that will be grilled with lemon pepper and served with a dill sauce. Rice pilaf and broccoli as the sides.
Kate's dad is back in the hospital with several bloodclots in his lungs and leg. They are extremely worried. The original brain tumors are still there as well, they are inoperable.
Well, time to scoot,
Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon! It’s another sunny day. Soon the Hooligans and I will be walking to see Ava, then to Choc and Maggie. Ava can go with us on her leash, then I’ll drop her back at her house.
Yesterday for brunch, DH had pancakes, and I made myself egg foo young. It was soooooo good. I was going to make it for me this morning, but DH came home too early, and I didn’t get it started in time. Oh well… tomorrow…
Last evening I had some leftover chili and made a cast iron casserole using corn tortillas for the “crust, then the chili filling and cheese topping. I served it with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, sour cream and salsa. Great use of leftovers!
Tonight, it will be steak on the grill pan for DH, and a grilled portabella for me. There will be potatoes of some kind—little potatoes sautéed in butter, most likely, and salads.
You all may convince me that I need the Instant Pot/pressure cooker after all… maybe.
Vel—I crave that forbidden food! Enjoy the quilting process!!! I start my little potatoes in the microwave then finish off in the cast iron skillet and get a nice crusty, buttery crust on them.
Carole—my DD turns 50 this year! I am in shock, as I’m sure I’m only 54. (I wish!) Your jam sounds quite interesting. What fruits are in it? I can see mixing the sweet and sour chicken with the shrimp and having S&S medley over rice!
Jana—That’s sad about Kate’s dad. Places that get lots of snow have the best snow removal. Here it’s hit and miss and lots of accidents. Watch that fog freezing on the roads!
My DD called last evening, and she was crying. Her friend’s mom is in the hospital with metastasized breast cancer, and after surgery is in a coma and on a ventilator. Her friend has the little twins that I made baby quilts for earlier this year. DD was really shook up and feels so sad for her friend. It’s a real shock for the family. Her mom had a shoulder hurting and the doctor kept telling her she’d pulled something… much like what my late DH went through—he was treated with cortisone shots and therapy for six months before he broke his arm and we found out in ER that he had metastasized kidney cancer (stage IV). I wanted to cry with my DD last night.
Guess I need to go with the Hooligans… they are circling and doing the “let’s get going” dance around me.
Bon appétit!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Jan 31st
Good afternoon from wet, dreary, nasty, chilly Sw. Pa...And I think as the temps fall, those rain drops are going to get a little thicker.....Jim has an appointment with the slice and dicer tomorrow but I'm thinking, his sharp knives will have to wait.....
Mary, your different camping sites sound so interesting....When talking to Kathy and hearing her talk about the places they've seen, I often think, we don't have anything like that around here...But, I guess each part of the country does have their own special sights...
AND, I agree with all your advice to Tina....Just not right!
Chickie, that's terrible about your DD's friend's mother...Why or why don't these doctors listen when people talk???? Same thing happened with Kathy's late MIL...Kept telling the doc she couldn't swallow and he'd say, take smaller bites...She ended up with cancer of the throat which went to other organs and that was it...Oh but the doc did send a funeral bouquet when she was laid out....Just looking at your menus, you really do come up with some creations....Some too hot for my taste but most do sound so good...
We just got back from an exciting morning, spending money and me being confused....We started at Aldi and you would think I'm feeding a big family but so much looked so good and I just had to buy...Then we went to Walmart, wanted to check out my "dumb phone" and micro waves...Ended up getting the micro, almost the same thing we had gotten there years ago, few new buttons...And as far as the phone, my head was spinning..My phone, I just pay every 3 months or a little extra if I use it more but nothing like being in a plan or under contract...Of course they tried to talk me into a smart phone and I just laughed, do they really know me?????They she said, to get a trac phone and once again, duh! so, now I'll get on line with Virgin Mobile and maybe order the same thing I have...Too many decisions for this old brain...
And I really do think I beat you all in having "old" kids...My oldest DS will be 62 in Sept. And that's tricky when I'm only turning 50 this year......
I have a feeling I won't have to cook today...On our way home, the car pulled into the Subway parking lot....Yummy! So, there's enough left for later, possibly, after hearing about fried taters, I might have to break down and make some.....AND I didn't bake but there is special ice cream for afters................
Happy eating..........
Will certainly add all those needing prayers on my prayer list...So many in need......
Eagle Update: Our little baby, E9 is really growing, leaps and bounds...He/she is quite a character, trying to do what his parents do..So funny to watch him/her try to pick up a stick and move it around....
But, the big thing I saw or found the other day...There is a nest on the northern Mississippi River that has 3 adult eagles in the same nest....1 female and 2 males and they have lived together for years and have successfully raised eaglets...The female just laid her 2nd egg but has been known for laying 3...It is really something to watch them all in the nest, working side by side...Amazing creatures.....

Hello
Almost Preston's nap time, Easton is already sleeping
Mary, I agree with you too
Mom called me earlier and the Dr released her, no rehab and of course Mom didn't ask or tell the Dr that she hasn't been walking before she got there our in the hospital at all. ... she got all nasty with me and I flat out told her to quit it, that I'm just trying to get her to ask the Dr's questions and be honest with them that she can't do anything. Dad had gone home to do some stuff and she told him she'd be out before he got back and I just talked to him and she's still in there and the paper work hasn't been done. I bet she'll drive the motor home back home also. ... makes me so darn mad! She can't even open a car door but thinks she has the strength to drive.
I'm making pork over rice for supper and a salad

The potluck was much more food than I could even begin to eat. Tonight having low fat version of beef stroganof. (sp?)
A Friend is God's way of making sure we never walk alone!
