supper club - Thursday, Jan 12th

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Jan 12, 2017 12:38 am

Good Morning!

Sorry, I got lost yesterday. We were up early and off to IHOP for breakfast with my son, Mike, before taking him to the airport in Austin, a full hour away. It was mid-morning when we got back and then we were off to grocery shop. After that I spent a good hour cleaning veggies and getting supper ready for the oven. Then I got my head down in my sewing machine, working on putting together some swap blocks. At 4pm there was a campfire at friends' campsite. That lasted until 7 when we came home to eat. Bedtime came early and I slept hard. It was another full day of retirement.

Today will be Washatopia. If you HAVE to go to a laundromat - and we do - it's one of the best I've ever been in. Huge. Clean. Always enough washers and dryers. And free coffee that blows Starbucks out of the water. I told them we only come for the coffee. Then I hope to finish those swap blocks.

IRISH - so happy Jake showed up!! My special cat, Tango (a big, beautiful, friendly, tuxedo) disappeared for a week about 3 different times. Once he came back skinny so we think he got locked in someone's garage while they went on vacation. Another time he was laying on our neighbor's couch and she was feeding him shrimp. I said, "Don't do that!". Kathy's coming in April! That's only like, 12 weeks away! And Ireland!! Oh, you will love it! And I'm sure family will be happy to step up and help with Jim while you are gone. What a lovely opportunity! I can't wait! My grandfather was born in Galway.

CHICKIE - are you still there or have you been blown to Missouri? How descriptive you were with your ghostly chairs! One thing with days like that, you pretty much have to stay inside and sew! Glad you are getting a respite before your next round of weather. We're 74 here this morning with 85% humidity. Bill says it feels like Hawaii outside.

BECCA - glad you, too, are warming up. Are you feeling better now?

Last night I made baked some chix breasts along with potatoes. There is leftover chicken so I need to figure out something to do with that. Probably chicken noodle casserole with salad on the side. Or perhaps save that for tomorrow night and tonite have fried potatoes and eggs . . What doesn't happen tonite will show up for supper tomorrow night.

have you got it all figured out yet?

Good Morning Everyone!
Tonight's supper will be chicken, but I am not sure whether it will be Parmesan (probably) or maybe Orange, with potatoes, salad and vegetable.

Maryz- As I am listening to the rain this morning I do not envy your beautiful weather. We will be dry for the next week and in the low to mid 60s so I have nothing to complain about. The drought monitor shows the northern third of the state with NO drought and the snow pack is above average. Good news for California.

Becca - Glad you are feeling better!

Today will be sewing pillowcases and bindings for the quilts that are being quilted. I also need to cut fabric for a class next week.

Good Morning!

It's is drawing hard here - so far over a inch a hour! So glad Michael went out last night and got milk. No sign of a let up either. Good side of this snow is that it's Utah powder, light and fluffy.

My girls are a giggly bunch! We had a lesson on safety and use of a sewing machine and they got just one strip set sewn. None of them had ever sewn before, so this will be a big learning curve.

Dinner will be a comfort food - pork chop, gravy, rice and broccoli. May try a new recipe for a cream cheese bundt cake for afters.

Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon from semi sunny, warm, SW. Pa....Yep, it's warm, almost 70 BUT, back down to 30 tonight and then low 30s for tomorrow....As Becca said, this weather will give you pneumonia or a head ache trying to figure what's going on in Mother Nature's head.....

Mary, we figured you had a busy day yesterday and just too busy to come to the table...IHop is one of my favorite breakfast places, love their strawberry crepes.....I do have a feeling, Jake was being fed and very well...He's been very lazy since he came back, thinking maybe his little adventure just did him in, lol....In fact, after his breakfast this morning he went back inside his "cat house" and back to sleep....I will make sure Kathy adds Galway to the list of things to see and do in Ireland...She's been talking to Jim's DB and DSIL for good ideas...DSIL has relatives over there and they've gone over at least 20 times and usually stay for about 6 weeks...I'm even hoping, they decide to go along with us...Everyone is assuring me, Jim will be OK....He will probably be staying at the same home where he was when I went to Cari's wedding...But, that's a long way off and of course so much can happen in the meantime.....

Becca, so glad to hear you are feeling better...I've had to take those nasty steroids and sure didn't like it, but they did the trick...Sure hate to hear about the problems you're having...You sure are right about a house draining you...Seems like always something...One good thing, at least I think it's good, Jim has no concept of things that need done or might be "broken"...I just either fix it or have someone do it and he doesn't know...Right now, he's back in his "working years"...Almost every evening, he'll worry about something happening at the office and he should be there...There are times, he even has me as his secretary....Oh the fun we have! But, I sure do hope today goes much better for the 2 of you, no more problems.....

Chickie, hope you didn't get blown away..You might have to put weights in your jeans to hold you down...But, better yet, just stay inside and sew......

Carol, All that snow is a good thing for the California drought...I also saw where Lake Tahoe has gone up quite a bit, which is good news...Have fun sewing......

Jana, a bunch of giggly girls, remember it well....But, oh the fun you must be having...And what a great thing you're doing for those girls...Even now, talking with some of my friends, they have never really been taught how to sew and never developed that interest...I just can't imagine! So good for you......

Well, today being "spring like", I'm going to finally take down the outside lights....I was going to suggest we go for a ride and get lunch but Jim seems out of sorts today so best just stay home...He does have an appointment in the morning with the VA doctor and then a stop at JoAnns and then hopefully visit with my sister, should be a full day......After lights, I'm going to hide in the sewing room and work on more blocks for Tina...

For our dinner, I like Mary's idea of fried potatoes and eggs.....I should bake something but might not have time, although, Kathy did give me a few, small cake mixes I could make.....

Happy eating...................

Good late afternoon! I haven’t blown away, but I had two windy days of wonderful temperatures in the 60s and all the way up to 71 yesterday afternoon! Needless to say, we walked to see Ava and stayed and played outside for much longer than on the cold days. Yesterday morning when I got up and fed the birds in my jammies, it was 62 degrees. This morning… quite a different story—21 with a “feels like” 13!!! Who left the freezer door open at Mother Nature’s house??? It’s 36 with a wind chill of 28… this is the calmest the wind has been in several days. We are in for freezing rain and drizzle through Sunday. I may not go to town on Saturday if we get the weather currently forecast.

Irish—I hope you’ve had a good day! You’re sure learning to do a lot of things on your own. Glad you’re able to hire help without it creating a ruckus. Enjoy that nice weather! My niece has been to Ireland. She brought me the prettiest cup from the Beliek (? Sp) factory—cream with green shamrocks. Of course, it was a favorite to use and I don’t have it any more.

Mary—No, I didn’t land in Nebraska although sometimes with the gusts it was hard to remain vertical. It was still wonderful to have such delightful warmth and sunshine on Tuesday. Yesterday was mostly cloudy. Glad the washatopia has good coffee to make that visit better.

Becca—glad you are feeling better! And now you are getting our nice weather… do enjoy it while it lasts. So sorry about your heat pump yet again. I never manage to get everything on my list. Grrr! I really need hot chocolate mix, but in a pinch I can make it the old fashioned way. I could probably make my own mix if I thought about it.

Jana—it’s so neat of you to teach those girls to sew. You should work up a class for life skills—sewing buttons, mending rips and hems, etc. I used to have to sew buttons on my bosses’ shirts. I could understand the male bosses, but the female one? Really!!!??? Boys should get a unit on sewing, and girls should get a unit on household repairs.

Carol—glad the drought is so much better. Just hope you don’t have flooding and mudslides. So sad the trees are falling. Ours in the timber have been in drought mode for so long that when we have heavy rains, they must take up so much water they get top heavy and just fall over.

Last night was fajitas and Mexican style rice. I think tonight will be Cajun andoullie sausage with red beans and rice. Don’t tell DH, but I’m going to re-season the rice and add the beans. He likes Cajun rice but not Mexican rice. I made some instant banana pudding for afters with some animal crackers.

Bon appétit!
