SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Jan 10th

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Jan 10, 2017 1:37 am

Good Morning, y'all!

What a nice evening we had with all the kids. We were only missing our DDIL and two grandsons. But someone had to stay home and work to pay the travel bills! lol! We got home about 10:30 last night and will be back down there this morning about 11:00am. We are all going to "do" Austin, seeing various sights, ending up at the 100 yr old Driskol Hotel for supper in their lounge. The girls will be staying in a hotel (not the Driskcol) tonite but Mike will come back to our trailer with us and we'll take him to the airport tomorrow morning. Our friends next to us will babysit Scottie for the day. A blessing to have such good friends!

BECCA - I hope your weather is easing up so you can enjoy your family this weekend. 18! That's a lot in one house! But I know you will relish every moment.

VELDA - i hear a lot of folks really like that movie, Rogue One. I've never been a big Star Wars fan. I never see a real plot, though there is always lots of action!

JANA - your son is a hero, plain and simple. I'm not sure who's a braver soul - him for his life=saving occupation, or his mama for being able to refrain from snatching him right out of that job!!

IRISH - I hope Kathy stays safe! The Truckee is such a pretty river as it winds through Reno and Sparks - until it floods. Will be saying a prayer for her.

CAROL - you are so right about working out. And I hate it. DH goes 3x/week to an aerobics class. I've done it several times, years at a time. Hated every moment. Now I try to walk a few miles most days. And do stretches.

The berry pie was so good last night - we used frozen blackberries and fresh raspberries and strawberries. I mixed the filling while Autumn made the crust. We also had shell pasta with cheese. We used a combo of cheddar and swiss. Another hit!

So no cooking tonite for me. I think I can handle that! What's happening on your plate tonite?

Good morning! The wind blew and blew… all day yesterday and all night, it swirled, whistled and keened around the corners of the house. The porch chairs rocked with ghostly occupants. When we awoke this morning—we were at 60 degrees!!! What a change!!! Of course, it’s not going to stay long… today and tomorrow—still with wind, then Winter returns for Thursday through Sunday. Wintry mix is forecast for Saturday and Sunday. I will live in the moments of today and tomorrow!

Irish—I love the Truckee River! It’s my best childhood memory of riding the trains from Oakland to Kansas. When Mom, DD and I took our road trip in 1985, I drove along the Truckee and in my mind I was in the train again. I hope there’s not too much damage. It’s just too beautiful. Do hope Kathy stays safe!!!

Vel—DH and DS2 went to Rogue One, but DDIL and I went to Passengers. I wasn’t impressed with Passengers story that much, but the special effects at times were pretty neat.

Jana—Wow—Daniel really puts himself on the line! I agree… HERO!!!

Carol and Mary—I hated aerobics, too. I’ve done it a lot, but I’m always several steps behind and going the wrong direction. I did manage to keep up at the last 8 week session before I retired. All the others in the class were young enough or younger to be my grandkids. I felt pretty good at keeping up in a step class. I couldn’t do it now… I need to get back to yoga. The dogs and I will be walking today to see Ava. It will be work keeping upright in the wind. I was also sad to see the big tree go down. Some of my other best memories are of Muir Woods—field trips from school and visits over there… sigh!

Becca—no snow or yuck until at least Friday… I don’t mind being snowed in and watching the birds. Dinner sounds so yummy! I’ve got to make some pot pie!!! Talk about comfort food! Maybe while it’s cold later in the week…

Tonight… I think… fajitas. I got some thinly sliced steak at the store. It will be either fajitas or… now I’m thinking beef and broccoli with fried rice will be a hit with DH… That’s sounding really good right now…

Everyone, stay safe with all the wild weather!

Bon appétit!

P.S. Mary--have fun "doing" Austin! Don't forget to look for the big billboard saying my DH was born there! I'm sure you will all have a blast today and this evening!

Good afternoon from slightly warmer, kind of dreary, SW. Pa...We are to warm up, probably getting Chickie's weather tomorrow but then......

Oh Mary, sounds like a great time you all are having....Have never been to Texas but sounds like fun, especially if the kids are with you...That's why I loved traveling with Kathy, got to see so much and sure did make life long memories....Did I tell you, she's planning our Ireland trip and told me, it's going to be the last 2 weeks in August.....She's also coming this way in April or May...Cari is morning into her new house and Kathy wants to help.....

Becca, you'll be happy to know, the books were returned and really didn't cost an arm and a leg, lol....And I walked out with another book and a bunch of magazines...Good chicken pot pie has always been a favorite.....

Chickie, Loved how you described the weather, did sound like a lead into an eerie movie.....As long as we don't get the wind, I'm happy....Around here, too many power lines go down when it gets too windy...I'm with you in the aerobics or any type of exercise, lol...Years ago, a gal friend (who was as thin as a stick) and I signed up for classes...I think it was only because there were so many cute outfits to wear...But, we'd go to class, do our thing and then on the way home, stop at Dairy Queen and have a banana split.....Did the same thing with another gal friend when we went to Weight Limited...So, if I go, there has to be a special treat waiting after class.....

Well, the tree is down and all or most of the boxes are on the back porch waiting for a young, strong person to come along....When I stuck the tree in the box, I almost buried one of the fur kids...BabyGirl is so darn nebby and almost got packed away....AND speaking of fur kids, guess who showed up on the porch this morning with a smile on his face....I couldn't not believe it! Jake had been gone a week but he sure doesn't look like he's suffered...I was ready to dismantle his "cat house" but I guess we're back in business....Boy, I wish he could talk.....

Other than the tree and hopefully everything else packed away, that might be it for the day...Well, except for maybe doing a stitch or 2....

For dinner, Jim is having a turkey and dressing meal...He picked this up yesterday and said it looked good...If there is anything he'll eat, I get it...So, we'll see how good it is....Not sure what else I'll fix, maybe just a veggie....We did get some apple fritters yesterday so that's a good after.......

You all have a great day......

Happy eating...................
