SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Jan 9th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Jan 09, 2017 12:40 am

Good Morning!

We woke up to a balmy 41* this morning, and believe me, after the last three days that does feel balmy! My DD and SIL got in last night and spent the night at Autumn's house. They will pick my son up at airport at 5pm. We will be going to Aut's early afternoon and she and I will make a mixed berry pie using blackberries I brought from home. We'll add other berries that we may find at the store today. We are going to have a big family supper tonite.

Yesterday I added the borders to my Maypole quilt and it is now packed away. With all the kids' goings on, I probably won't be sewing much until Wednesday afternoon. That's fine with me. I needed a break.

JANA - It doesn't matter that the fees for kids' house are gov't fees. It's the colossal error made on the part of the mortgage broker that is unacceptable. He should be held accountable by his boss at the very least. Has your snow let up yet? Hope warming temps are in your near future.

BECCA - Your supper sounded like major comfort food. I hope you have a little left for tonite! It was I who had the infx on my hands, not Carol. Carol took a class in machine binding. I stumbled through it the hard way. My usual M.O. lol!

IRISH - I saw your Steelers won their game. Congrats! I know they couldn't have done it without you! Did you make it to the library yet?

CHICKIE - How did our kids get so old when we're so young??! Your calligraphy project is gorgeous! What a sweet, personal touch! When you sew your bindings on, what size seam do you use - 1/4" or 5/8" or "other"? We use the same process, but I use 1/4" seam so use narrower binding strips. I might try a larger seam allowance and see if I like that look better.

Tonight, as I said, supper will be macaroni and cheese. We'll also have salad, and biscuits with pie and vanilla bean ice cream for dessert. Comfort food all the way!

What kind of party will be on your plate tonite?

Maryz: Sounds like a lovely family get-together. Mixed berry pie sounds good too. And yes, it is good to take a break from the sewing machine for a bit. But you will be back at it soon.

We went to see Rogue One yesterday. That was a good movie, but I always struggle with know who’s who and what the heck is going on. After a bit, I got it all together and then it started making sense. LOL.

Becca: So glad you are warming up a bit. What a miracle the guy was found and OK.
Chicken pie sounds great. I love sweet potato as well and slaw. That reminds me to buy some slaw mix this week when I do grocery shopping. I love to add apple to my slaw sometimes.

Today is a sewing day with friends at the clubhouse. I cherish these days to have friends to sew with. I wish we had a clubhouse at our summer location, but they do not have activities and such. People come on weekends there mostly with kids and do swimming and boating and all the summertime activities. There are only a few of us retired folks that are there throughout the week. But that’s OK, because the summertime is fishing time for my DH and me.

Tonight I plan to use some of my leftover turkey and make creamed turkey. It is one of my DH’s favorite meals. He likes it on mashed potatoes or on toast. I will fix a salad and maybe some jello for dessert. Also will look and see what vegetable I can add in there as well.

Have some fun today.

Good Morning!

Mary - what a fun Party! My Sarah turns that number too, in February. Surprising that I am only 24. She got to count the birthdays, since she was born on my birthday.

Velda- enjoy the sewing Day! I need one of those.

We did leftover chicken enchilada soup last night and I definitely need a run to the grocery store.

The ls still blowing very hard, 40 to 50 mph range. All the snow is blown off the roofs and yhe lawns. For awhile I thought we would end up in Kansas. Our high for the day was at 2 am - the temps are dropping again with a new storm later today.

My Daniel had to take the firetruck to work with him today. He is on call with the rains falling in California. He is one of two in his area, swift water rescue trained. So he will go into the water by a boat or a helicopter he jumps out of. At least he keeps me informed on his calls. He was out on a dozen calls yesterday and is fine. Don't know if it good or bad to know when he is out on a call.

Time to scoot,
Enjoy!

Good afternoon from semi sunny but still darn cold, SW. Pa....But, we are to warm up so dig out the shorts and sun screen.....

I talked to Kathy last night and they are really having problems..Parts of Reno are flooded pretty bad and the Truckie River is running extremely high...She's pretty safe where she lives, Sparks, but her PO is close to the flooding...The University has been closed and her PO is right across the street....But, she said, they have enough potty paper and milk, so they're OK, lol......

Mary, I can hear and feel the excitement in your post...How much fun to be getting together with the kids...Just goes to prove, they will hunt you down no matter where you try to hide, lol.....Berry pie, yum.......

Becca, In talking with Terry, you guys really did get hit...And sure wouldn't be fun getting stranded in your mountains, lucky that fellow survived....Always remember the 1st winter Terry was down there and snowed more down there than we had up here...Then he laughed at the snow remover guys, went past the house and scraped up all the reflectors from the middle of the street and they all ended up on the side walks....Your motto is a good one and we do, take 1 day at a time.....You're not the only one who loves the sun....

Velda, I really think I could get used to your way of living, but it's a little late to try to convince Jim...I'll bet it's so much fun to get together with the ladies and sew the afternoon away....
And your creamed turkey sounds a lot like our chicken ala kind, love, love it on toast......

AND, NO Mary, I didn't get to the Library and the books are now 2 days over due...I'll probably have to take out a loan to pay the fine...Either that or give them Jim, lol....And we'll have to stop at Walmart...All the cat food I had gotten last week isn't to their liking...(Most of it was cans that Jake liked) The girls are getting so fussy, I'm not sure what to get for them......

And speaking of eating.....Left over chicken ala king for Jim and I, what else! I haven't baked since Christmas but might not have time today so it might be graham crackers and ice cream.....

Happy eating............

Stay warm and safe.....

Good Afternoon Everyone!
I am so enjoying going to the gym for a workout. Did I tell you our gym was re-modeled and opened Oct 10th. If you remember we were on vacation that week. So I had only one full week and a part of one before I was in the hospital. I went back to the gym about 10 days after I got out, but only for a short workout. Then I had to wait a little after the Dec 14th surgery too! I am now working out for an hour on the elliptical (just in the past week) and doing weights. I am thrilled! Working out makes me feel better and gets the kinks out of my muscles. I tell everyone as women we need good balance and strength!

Tonight's dinner will be Turkey Meatloaf, baked potato and baked beets and salad.

Becca - Glad you are better. Your chicken pie sounds good. We have lots of goodies leftover too! I hope they are gone soon.

Jana - You are getting the Northern California Storm I think. Boy, the pictures of Northern California areas look bad. All the rivers seem to be overflowing. Then that beautiful redwood fell yesterday. The Wawona Tree in Yosemite fell years ago. It really is a shame that they allowed cars to drive through the trees.

Irish - I too am glad you keep the keys in your pocket and Jim doesn't like the cold. Him wandering out in the cold is not what you need!

Velda - The clubhouse sewing sounds like so much fun! The local sewing machine store has sew-in days. A teacher is present so there is a nominal fee, but some stores have these days without a fee. It isn't as close, but it is a thought.

Maryz - How nice for your DD and DS to pay a visit while you are in Texas!! The berries do sound good. I have a few boysenberries in the freezer, I think I should use them by combining with store bought berries. I do have a peach cobbler also in the freezer without the cobbler topping. Oh, it does sound very good.

Have a great day everyone!
Carol
