SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, Jan 8th
I can't believe January is almost 1/3 over! My baby girl will be turning 40 on Tuesday (also my dad's birthday). Her sister and brother will be here tomorrow to celebrate with us. Can't wait! My older DD (Lara) and SIL (Lee) are driving and are somewhere in NM right now. My son, Mike, is flying tomorrow. My DIL, Emily, is staying home with all the furkids.
Seahawks won their wildcard game last night so we made it through another round. Whew!
IRISH - I see your game is on about noon my time, 1:00-ish your time. Will you be watching? I checked a map and Dallastown is SE of York in York Co., and a bit east of I-83. Looks like it's not far from Wellsville, where many of my relatives are from. Probably still there. When Jim gets up in the middle of the night, does he wake you? I keep wondering if you have to tie a bell on him so you can hear him. At least you were on time for church!
BECCA - I'm so happy to hear you got a good night's sleep! You must be exhausted by now! How was your cough throughout the day? Your pinto beans brought back vivid memories of my mom's beans. Yum! they were from the garden and pulled out at end of season and hung upside down in the basement to dry. Then when ready, we spread sheets out and shook/beat/scrunched the beans loose from their pods/stalks. It was a family affair. When she cooked them, usually with ham or bacon (also home-raised) she often served them in a bowl over boiled potatoes. Now I'm going to put dried beans on my grocery list!
JANA - that is one huge, unacceptable mistake on the part of the mortgage broker! If there is a Brokers' Board, it should be reported. I'd hate to see your kids get locked into a mortgage that is so tight that if there is an unexpected shift in their income, they lose their house.
CAROL - A few years ago I had a fungal infection in both hands and it got so bad that I couldn't do hand work. I was forced to start doing my bindings by machine. I was pretty wobbly at first, but am now not so bad. I found one secret is smaller width bindings. I usually use 2-1/4" but have found that 2" works well, too. You will love doing bindings by machine! Takes about an hour to complete a queen binding, start to finish.
Tonite's feast will probably be more soup. I offered to make homemade pizza but Bill says, 'no, let's eat up the soup'. Fine by me! Since 'redding' up the 'house' only takes about 20 minutes, I guess it will be another sewing day here. Darn. ;o)

Hello everyone,A bitter cold morning here at single digest. And the snow is on ground now with ice too. Many churches canceled due to weather. We are to start warming on Tuesday.
Maryz That nite is sleep was wonderful.I have coughed so much for so long .I slept again last nite. The codeine in it makes you sleep & not cough.Needed it a long time ago.I cough thru the day too but yesterday only if I talked on the phone.
The beans were great.I love pintos ,onions & cornbread.I put the hambone in them.
Jana When I read about the broker I groaned.Something is Wrong big time.Had they not signed for the lower rate.I feel something is amiss.Do hope it can be worked out for a much better loan.Always need a little padding in case of emergency.Prayers they can get it fixed.
Carol Sorry about the infection. We use our hands so much.
Irish I too wonder about Jim getting outside & none to help.Especially with the bitter cold.Prayers you will both be safe.Hugs to you & Yours.
I got out a chicken pie to bake.DD give us 8 for Christmas.A Church where they did live makes them in the Fall & sells them.Know they love her as a customer. It is delicious just like me Mom & Grand,Other made. Its also a tradition the Morvarvians had.You only use the meat of chicken & broth,no veggies. Will add Cole slaw. When they do a supper to sell them they add green beans, potato salad, deviled eggs & desserts.Yummy.
Enjoy & have a great day to all.Stay warm. Becca

Good morning!
Because of government rules, they can only lock a lower rate at 90 days before closing. This is why they lost the first house they were building, the builder was way slow. So, the kids just locked their rate, and of course it went up slightly. Michael and I will be the backup on money. All these fees and charges are fallout from the great housing meltdown a couple of years ago.
I have no idea on dinner, it's still breakfast time here!
Enjoy!

Good afternoon from a very cold but sunny SW PA.....Jim was funny when he got up. Looked out the window and said, "looks like a nice day". When I told him it was only going to 16, he said he was going back to bed?!
Mary, sounds like you're really going to have some fun days coming up. Wow, having the kids with you, Christmas all over again...I also got out my map and I'm thinking it might be closer to where the girls live or they might know where to get the pickles....Good game last night and I was able to stay awake......Soup! Makes any day better......
Jana, I feel so bad for the kids, just not right.... Thank goodness you are there to help.... We've never had a mortgage so I'm lost when anyone talks points etc.
Becca, thank heavens you're finally getting some rest. Sure makes a big difference. So far, I've been lucky about keeping inside...I carry the key in my pocket, which he doesn't know...He has tried the doors but so far hasn't gotten insistant....One thing he really hates the cold so that alone keeps him inside...Not sure what I'll do come warm weather.....One day at a time! Big hugs back at you......
I don't see much happening today except shivering, lol...I never did make it to the library so if I want to be wild and crazy, might venture out. As for dinner, finished my soup last night, darn....But I'm sure there's something ready to fall out of the freezer....Might be a good day for chicken ala king......
You all have a great day, stay safe, stay warm!
Happy eating...

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, Jan 8th
Good afternoon—LATE! It’s 4:15 here. We are 40 degrees with a “feels like” 31. The wind is from the south and feels like blowing over icebergs! I’ve been doing the Kenmore shuffle today and working on a calligraphy project for a grandson getting married in September. The bride had me letter little cards to go in gifts where she asks her friends to be maid of honor and bridesmaids. I’d never heard of it, but apparently, this is now “custom”. DGS and she both have very good jobs, are purchasing a house, and seem to be well settled. They are in their early/mid 20s.
Becca—your beans are how I make them. I cook them in the oven all day on low and slow. I never soak mine… just wash and wear. Your pot pies sound wonderful!! So glad you are getting some rest!
Jana—that’s terrible about the mortgage. I agree they should be reported. That’s just not right! I do understand the 90 days…
Carol—I do machine binding now since I discovered it. I use my “regular” (not ¼”) presser foot, 2.5” strips, and sew on the back side, bring to front, then stitch on the edge. It’s almost in the ditch on the back side when finished. I never want to change now.
Irish—so glad Jim’s not getting out at night! That’s so scary… I’m thinking those pickles have to be delicious! I like the ones with some “heat”.
I’ve been feeding the birds like crazy. The little beggars line up and wait for me to come out for their feeding frenzy.
Mary—my DD will be 50 in July! I can’t believe it!!! I’m only 54! (I wish!) Have a fun birthday celebration!!! Know you are going to be happy, happy, happy… a happy camper!
Dinner tonight… po’k chops, fried apples, baked sweet taters, salad and Jell-o with fruit.
Bon Appétit!
