The Christmas story is one of good news and great joy, but it is also quite a short one. There are 27 books in the New Testament part of the Bible, but the story is only told in the books written by Matthew and Luke, two of Jesus' followers and friends. In Matthew, the story is told in two out of the 28 chapters and in Luke, it is told in two chapters out of 24.
Both Matthew and Luke finish their telling of the story with Joseph, Mary and Jesus returning to Nazareth to live. But Christians believe that Christmas was only the beginning of the amazing life of Jesus.
To Christians, one of the most important things about Christmas is what 'Christmas' really means - the Mass of Christ (or Jesus). Mass (or Communion) is a Christian act of worship when Christians remember that Jesus was not only born, as told in the Christmas story but that, when he became a man, Jesus willingly died to take away all of our sins and bring us closer to God. Then he came back to life three days later. Christians celebrate this throughout the year, but especially on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
Nothing has ever been the same since the first Christmas and you can find out more about Jesus' life in the Bible.
I hope you have enjoyed our daily devotions on Christmas. I wish each and every one of you a blessed Christmas day. I will see you again probably Monday or Tuesday:) Spend time with your family and God Bless!
Merry Christmas!

Izzy, Thank you for a walk thru the bible at Christmas, a new look at some of the events surrounding the birth of Christ. You put a lot of info about those days into these devotions that I had never read before. Thank you for enlightening me, and I am sure, lots of others. You are a delightful pastor's wife and a real inspiration to us all.
I look for your devotions each day. Just makes my day start right with your words explaining the Word of God in simpler terms.
Becca, you are so right. We need to "Remember the reason for the season" when we celebrate this time of the year. I have a coffee cup with that saying on it, a Christmas cup. But I keep it with my cups year around and smile when I happen to grab that one. It reminds me that Jesus came to earth for a purpose, born in a manger so humble and small, but gave His life for us, to save us all.
Thank you everyone who add your own comments each day. Again, I think of this devotional thread as a little mini bible study. It is interesting to see how differently we all sometimes view the very same bible verse. God's WORD reaches each one of us in a way that we, and we alone, need. Different ideas mean different things to each of us. And so, bible studies, just like sermons, reach the hearts of those in ways they can understand.
God bless you all today and all your tomorrows too. Thank you Izzy, and everyone else who comments, for a God inspired peek into the word of God. You touch our hearts and minds each day in such a special way.
And the pictures only add to our little walk thru the bible. Even the pictures touch us each differently. Isn't God wonderful!
Hugs and Love to all, Remember the reason for the season, Jesus!

Merry Christmas to All!
Christmas is a wonderful time. It draws us nearer to what our lives should be all year.
This joyous birth is told in those short chapters, and there is much to glean from those accounts. Two witnesses, testified of his birth. Later, others in the scriptures of Christ's ministry. Oh, what we can glean and learn from the scriptures we have been so greatly blessed in having in our own hands, to read at anytime.
Christ'so birth, life, and death taught us all so much, the charitable attributes we can all attain. One I am trying to gain in my life is service. Starting my day in my prayers asking how and whom I can find who is in need of something I can do to serve. Many times, I am surprised, and shouldn't be, of how that is answered.
Charity, the pure love of Christ, never faileth.
May each of you and your families continue to be blessed,
Hugs,
Jana
