SUPPER CLUB - Thanksgiving Day!

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Nov 24, 2016 2:48 am

Can you believe it? Thanksgiving is already here! Christmas will probably arrive on Friday and by Sunday it will be Easter! Time is becoming a blur lately!

We have pouring rain this morning. Bill and BIL were going to go over for another session in the wood, but maybe not. We are really closing in on the end of that chore.

I worked in the kitchen all afternoon yesterday making preparations for today. Last night it wasn't hard to talk everyone into going out to eat. So we went to one of our favorite Italian restaurants on the water. Very nice. We ordered a nice bottle of wine and I really relaxed! We came home and I fell asleep almost instantly in front of the TV! Such a ball of fire, I am! lol!

CHICKIE - ok, now I need to know how to make your cranberry pico! It sounds pretty delicious to me! Would go well with pork, too, I would think.

TINA - you are ALWAYS busy in your kitchen on holidays. I know you love having all the family. What's on your menu? If Kevin has the opportunity to choose his job, any government job might pay a little less, but retirement is usually much better than private industry. I've got a big box of fabric all packed to bring you for the comfort quilt backings. It says "TINA" all over it! Now to just keep my sister, Tina, from taking it with her when she leaves! lol! I have to watch her all the time!

IRISH - congratulations on your egg!! If it's a girl, we can name it "Irish" after you! Hope all your family are with you today wherever you may be. and praying for Terry's job interview. Will it be teaching? He is a teacher, right?

CAROL - Did you get to go out to eat last night? You sound like you are feeling better now. Are you 100% yet? It takes a long time to come back from an illness like that. and I can't speak for you, but I'm not as young as I used to be and it takes longer to recuperate.

BECCA - will you and your DH be on your own today or is family coming? With all the smoke I was wondering if it might keep some away, especially with little ones.

JANA - I know you are busy today, too! Enjoy! I really do enjoy all the cooking, hustle, bustle, and especially the smells that go into a holiday meal. Even if I whine (or maybe 'wine') a little! lol!

Well, ladies, I think it's time to get things going in the kitchen. Love and hugs to you all and my wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am thankful for your friendship!

Bon Appetit`!

Good morning!

I have been in the kitchen, teaching, bread rolls 101. Kate has never made bread and is making them for her family dinner. Aaron is making snickers salad. That is made with cut up snickers candy bars, granny smith apples and coolwhip.

The parade is on for a few more minutes then FOOTBALL! Whoo hoo! The first of my OD days on football.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends! May you always be blessed snd grateful for all we have.

Enjoy,
Jana

I am late posting. We had so much food at our gathering at the clubhouse. Everyone is such good cooks!
Tonight DH and I are going to eat very lite.
This afternoon I worked on the hand sewing on my Row by Row kit that I bought from our quilt shop in Shelbyville. I will share pictures when and IF I ever get it finished.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
Maryz - Glad your family was cooperative in taking you out to dinner. I did get to go out too! It doesn't work to have leftovers and fix a turkey dinner! I wish I could say I was 100%, but the stent will not be removed until Dec 14th. It pulls a bit when I move and hurts, so no to 100%. I am probably at 90% and just trying to act normal.

Tina - I am glad I found this forum too!

Becca - Hope you are enjoying you day. Glad family will be coming to your house later.

Jana - I made bread yesterday for the turkey sandwiches we are looking forward to tomorrow. Bet you had a great time teaching DDIL. I think of my Mom whenever I make bread. It makes me smile.

I watched the dog show rather than football, but know several of you really like football, enjoy!!

Have a great meal everyone!

Good evening! We had a nice day. It was good to see everyone. I got up early and cooked my noodles and made my dressing. I came home with empty vessels. One of the nephews said he could tell my noodles were made from scratch because he could taste the love I put in them. The pico de cranberry was a hit with DBIL--he said it was the only cranberry relish/sauce he ever ate that he liked, and he really liked it. So, it was a good day foodwise!

I started to write earlier from my phone and I don't know what happened, but it wouldn't post.

Mary-- one of the suggestions for the pico is with pork; others are roast chicken, slathered on leftover turkey sandwiches, tossed with quinoa and salad greens and goat cheese, on a cheese plate, with pork chops...

I made half of this recipe with a little extra jalapeno:

one 12-oz bag fresh or frozen cranberries, rinsed and patted dry
1 cup granulated sugar
juice and zest of one lime (about 2T juice and 1t zest) (I used bottled because I forgot to get a lime)
1 jalapeno or red serrano pepper, seeded and finely diced (about 1 ounce)
1/4 large red onion, finely diced (about 2.5 oz)

Place cranberries, 3/4 cup sugar, and half the lime juice in a food processor and pulse just until the cranberries are somewhere between coarsely and finely chopped.
Add the jalapeno and red onion and pulse just a few more times to combine. Taste and, if desired, add more sugar and/or the remaining lime juice and zest to taste. Let rest at room temperature until the sauce starts to get juicier as the sugar dissolves, 15 to 20 minutes.
Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld. Stir to recombine before serving.

To freeze the relish, place in a resealable plastic bag and place flat in freezer. Store for up to 2 months. Thaw in refrigerator overnight.

Vel--I think the clubhouse group would be such fun... always loved church pot luck dinners for the variety of the bounty.

Becca--save me some pudding!

Tina--hope you had a great day!

Mary--maybe the rain came to give you some wood cutting relief! Too bad we can't divert it to Becca's state!

Jana--I've heard of the Snickers salad. Sounds like dessert to me!!!

Carol--you had us fooled... you sound great! Hope you still take it easy, especially with not overdoing and pulling something you shouldn't!

I know my days are a blurr, and time sure does fly!

Happy Thanksgiving to my friends!!!
