SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Nov 15th
Good Morning,
We've got so much rain here that I wish I could gather it all up and ship it back east to BECCA! A few trees have toppled just because the ground is so saturated. Though yesterday was a mostly dry day. WE took advantage of it and went to Jim's and split some of that wood we hauled home for them in September. My DS and BIL helped. We did use a wood splitter. No one in our generation of the family is manly enough to do it with a splitting maul!! But we only got about 15% of the wood split and stacked. Lots of entertainment ahead.
You all were talking military in honor of Veteran's Day. My DFIL was in the Army during WWII. He was in the wave of soldiers that relieved the first wave in the Battle of the Bulge. He never would tell stories except that on a wintery day Eisenhower went along the line of men and personally inspected each man's boots. My own dad served on the home front in a way. He expected to go into service but was given a 4-F classification to stay home and file chainsaws. He was one of only two saw filers of his caliber in western WA, and timber was a huge part of the war effort during WWII. All my brothers, my DS, and Jim's wife, Terry, all were in the Navy (one brother was in Army). And my DSonIL was in the Marines. We're a proud and grateful family.
IRISH - by golly, let's have that tea!! We can all meet at CHICKIE's since she's fairly central. and since I know where she lives. and since I know she'll make us cookies. ;o) Your story about Jim delivering the mail in Korea brought to mind the set of MASH. I could picture him driving a Jeep loaded with bags stuffed to overflowing with precious mail!
CAROL - thank you for your sweet thoughts! Yes, our family all came together and we sort of had what we called a 'living wake'. For me, it was healing and a good way to say good-bye. and it was what Jim wanted. My SIL needs a full blown funeral Mass and that's fine with me, too. But I'm truly at peace now with Jim. He's pain free for the first time in 20 years and that alone gives me joy for him.
JANA - I wonder if yellow peas taste the same in soup at the green ones. I've never tried them. I suspect you haven't either! lol!
BECCA - Being only two steps ahead of you, brother-wise, please know that I'm thinking of you daily and offering up prayers. I pray your brother has as easy journey as possible and that you and your family are able to find peace. Tell us about your brother. What did he do for a career? married? children?
CHICKIE - your grandparents may be laughing down at you, but in a good way. I suspect you are laughing right along with them!
Today I am going to sew! Yesterday we (sis and BIL, too) went to Jim's and got a start on splitting all that wood we hauled for them last September. Hardly made a dent, but at least it was a beginning. So, when we knocked off, it seemed appropriate to stop in at the tavern for burgers and a beer. Since we were all full, no chix parm last night, so that's on the menu for tonite. What's the story in your kitchen?

Lets have tea!!! I'll make cookies, coffee cake and scones... anything to get you all here... I even have teas and coffee, but I'll have to get some hot chocolate... it's that time of year!
I got Mom's quilt sandwiched after lots of interruptions... visiting Ava and Maggie... pull starting DH's two trucks... following DH to town to leave his Ford Ranger to get a new starter put on it and waiting for a few errands. Of course, the Hooligans were involved in everything! They went to visit the other dogs, got to ride in my truck for the "pulling" operations, and got to go to town--silly things! They were giddy with excitement of it all.
Now when I see re-runs of M*A*S*H, I'll be thinking of Irish and her Jim!!!
Today I WILL be quilting... Dinner is again some leftovers--hooray for them!!!

Good morning
Mary, I had the same thought as you about MASH and Irish Jim.
I'm going to have to text you for your recipe, I didn't get my parmesan chicken either, the boys were here till after 5 because Holly had a meeting and Preston didn't take his nap so I was a little stressed. .. we did have a frozen lasagna from Schwans that was delicious and a salad.
Chickie LOL you hooligans stories make me smile
I'll do my best to make it, I love hot chocolate, had some last night
I'm going to try for the chicken parmesan tonight.
Tina

Good morning,
Around here, MASH is quoted often. A family motto, taken from MASH, is, I do one thing at a time, do it very well, and then I move on. Something we tried to teach our kids.
The pizza finally found the table last night along with a salad. Tonight a soup will find the table as well.
Sarah got some unexpected help from her DH's uncle. He has done alot of construction in his life and together they got the bedroom sheetrocked. Today they are coming back to finish the other room and then, Sarah will tape and mud. Another one of her many talents.
Enjoy!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Nov 15th
Good afternoon from another very sunny, chilly, SW. Pa....I really do enjoy the sun shining in through my dirty windows....One of these days, I'll either get them washed or maybe just pull the drapes.....
Mary, Hearing you talk about your family is great and then when you talk about being at peace with Jim's passing, it's all good...Oh my, wouldn't it be great to meet at Chickie's...I always said, when I win that lottery, I was going to take a trip and stop at everyone's house...Guess I really should start playing that lottery in earnest, huh?
Tina, just need to know, does your Mr. Schwan wear shorts in the summer and does he look good?, lol...Once again, our Mr. Schwan has left the area....I do miss the food and of course I do miss seeing him, in the summer, lol...A couple of the grands love the food and for Christmas I'll be getting them gift cards from Schwans....
Chickie, I'll even bring the marshmellows for the hot chocolate if you don't have any....I always thought my trip out to visit Kathy in Reno was my "trip of a life time" but I think a "get together with our supper club friends" at your house would even surpass that.....
Jim did have some wild stories about his mail delivery days in Korea...He has pictures of the winding roads that were "stuck" on the side of a mountain and heaven forbid you met someone coming the opposite way...One picture he dearly loves is with him surrounded by a bunch of little Korean kids...He always called them his family away from home....His brother was a Marine and had been over there just as the war had ended and then Jim was sent over...His DB always said, he made it safe for his little bro to be there...Jim always thought, all boys should have the experience of basic training but I was kind of glad, none of our's ever went....
Today is a kind of "clean a little here, clean a little there" kind of day....Did put most of the summer clothes away and sadly got out the heavy stuff...I really think I should be living in Florida, I have way more summer stuff than winter...I was thinking I could check out the walk in tubs at Home Depot but they only have them on line and they contract out for someone to install, so our HD was a wasted stop...I didn't realize how hard it is to get things done around the house, seems people just aren't interested and most of the time, won't even return calls.......I think I'm about to give up on the cleaning and spend the rest of the afternoon sewing.....
For our dinner, it has to be new food but I haven't a clue as to what it might be....I did notice some "mac n cheese" hidden in the freezer so I might have to make it, just to use it up, right??? Next door neighbor sent over some banana/nut bread so we'll have that for afters........
Happy eating..............
Eagle Update:
The nest in northern Florida already has 2 eggs...This is a couple of eagles known as Romeo and Juliet and they have been together for years...
I did see a picture of our Harriet and M15 sitting on a limb in front of the super moon and it was gorgeous...I think they were whispering sweet nothings or maybe M15 asked Harriet when she was going to get with it and lay that 1st egg......
