Good morning!
Sending my rain eastward today. You're all welcome!
I just finished typing out a nice long chatty post and as I was reaching for the POST button, my computer shut down for "an update" and 1/2 hour later, when it came back, my post was gone. One of these days, I'm going to strap on my big irons and go gunning for Microsoft!!
IRISH - love the eagle story. and I was wondering if the right kind of music might soothe and calm Jim. It would make me crazy, but most people would like it. Music is used for all kinds of therapies. Just a thought that occurred to me this morning,
BECCA - so sorry for all that is going on in your life right now. Your tooth, your brother, your brother, and your fires. How do you decide what to pack for a quick evacuation??
CAROL without an E - my bad. A 'cat' is a generic term for bulldozer so when I mentioned that my brother's cat was crossing the yard, I meant that his son was driving the dozer through the yard (and over the drainfield!!) so my brother could watch the little 'dozer dance' he put on. Did you know a bulldozer operator is called a catskinner?
CAROLE with an E - how did your infusion go?
CHICKIE - yes, Aut's visit was very short. She spent two days traveling to spend 1-1/2 hour here. But it was worth it!
JANA - your soup is awesome! Got raves here. Mine turned out a bit on the liquidy side so I tossed in a handful of rice. A nice addition!
Jim had a very alert day yesterday - all day long. Even spoke in sentences and ate a 1/2 cup tapioca pudding. Sort of a last minute rally, I think. Then he said it was time to go. Not sure what that meant - him or me - but the last of the family leaves today - even his three kids. all that's left is my older sis and BIL who will be here through the end.
tonite, it's grilled burgers. Need to hit the grocery store today for buns, frozen fries, salad fixings. Trying to keep it simple. My late DH#2 always was a fan of the KISS method of doing things - Keep It Simple, Stupid. He was a funny guy!
So what's your supper plan?

Good morning!
Mary - glad the soup was good. We enjoyed it. I knew a Cat was a bulldozer but learned the name of the driver. When my MIL was at home just before she passed, we set up her bed to see out in the great room and watch all the wildlife and flowers in her yard that she loved.
We have been eating, take out here, leftovers there, so today i need to cook. Baked chicken in my parmesan coating and domething simple to go along.
We may get more word on Stu tomorrow as it is his day to write home. Still expect him dometime before Thanksgiving.
Time to fix all the clocks. Michael has one that is set from a radio beacon - so it is always perfect time and he uses that one to setvthe rest in the house. We have a few!
Enjoy,
Jana

Good morning! It’s a classic crisp, sunny fall morning with dew sparkling on the grass. Our lone little duck is swimming and diving in the pond. She’s been around much of the summer and may just have hidden around the cove when we didn’t think she was around. She hardly ever flies more than across the pond. She also doesn’t seem to be too afraid of us. We also see a pair or two of wood ducks swimming around. It would be neat if one of them found the nesting box DH put up last year.
Jana--I made the enchilada soup yesterday—delicious! I missed the green chiles, but I used a can of fire roasted tomatoes with chiles. It all worked out. Like Mary, I decided to do an add-in—barley.
Mary—I’m sure it was important to Jim that he stick around to see everyone and can be in peace. Loved the dozer story. I didn’t know about “cat skinners”…
I have biscuits and gravy for everyone if they show up today. If not, DH will be feasting on them for a couple of mornings… or an evening.
Today is laundry, taking care of the grand-dogs for DS3, and maybe finding my sewing room…
Becca—hope everything is good for you and the rains come! That’s so scary.
DH returned from coffee… Have a great day!

Hello everyone,Just smokey & gloomy here.
Liked Chickies description of her pond & duck much better.More peaceful. This has never happened here like this before.Maybe 1 but there are multiple fires now going & none are contained. The biggest one 496 acres is only 10perc contained.
Maryz You take meds,Important papers,Few change of clothes.DHs oxygen would be the biggest thing.Anything you value the most.We have no pets .Basic necessities.
DH always sets our clocks the day before but this year he missed some.I did Those this morning.I have always hated this switching of time.Never used to be this way.Am I old or What? Lol
Irish Sure hope you & Jim are having a better day today.Think of you a lot.
Carol Hope you are mending fast but would Sure take it easy & rest.
Jana On the run like always.Saw you flying by.
It will be leftovers here as we neither are not much for eating. When all this is happening.
Hope your day is better. Becca

The guys were happy with the biscuits and gravy and sausage and jam. They will be taking home jars of blackberry jam. Both of these guys are the cooks in their homes. One owns a restaurant and is a chef. What am I crazy, offering to cook for them??? They both want my recipe for the Dutch Baby Pancake I made yesterday. It's chef's choice (mine) tomorrow... I'm kind of thinking Apple Fritter Coffee Cake with ham slices and scrambled eggs...
Needless to say, with those brunches, we don't need much for dinner Tonight's has taken care of itself. DS2 invited us for ribs. I'm to take beer bread. I forgot earlier to say what dinner would be here.
Enjoy!

Good afternoon from a very sunny, gorgeous day in SW. Pa.....This is another, bottle it up and keep it forever, kind of day..Now if all goes well, I'll really be super happy.......
Mary, If you don't mind, don't send the rain to our area, although we do need maybe a little...And I'm with you when you go gunning for Microsoft! The little person who lives inside my machine keeps moving things around and half the time, I'm lost.....
The things we learn on this forum.....I did know about the Cat but not the catskinner...Back in the stone age, one of my uncles owned most of the big machines that they used in coal mining etc., in Sw. Pa. and my Dad kept them going....And you know how that apple doesn't fall far, our oldest, DS also has his own construction company and Kevin is a supervisor for one, so we know about those machines, just not the driver, lol....
Does the nurse come to help out with Jim? Praying he has a gentle passage.....
Chickie, I think I'm coming to your house for that biscuits and gravy...But, a funny story, years ago, we were traveling in the south and Jim had to try the sausage gravy with biscuits...Well, he said, never again, said it tasted like flour and water with chunks of something...And then every time my sister and I would go to breakfast, she would want the biscuits and gravy and I'd just turn my nose up UNTIL we were at Bob Evans and I tasted her's...Oh my heavens, it was so good...So I can imagine how good your's would be....End of story, set a plate! Your 1 lone little duck needs a friend to keep her warm this winter.....
Jana, Your house is always busy but you know, that's what keeps you young....Your baked chicken sounds yummy........
Becca, thinking of you, hope you are OK.....
Not too much happening today, thank goodness...I'm always happy for a "peaceful day"....Last evening, Dan came down to show us all the pictures he had taken when he visited his mother out west...And, while they were in California, they visited the Chirardelli Chocolate place and brought us a huge bag of their squares....So many different flavors and you know, I haven't found 1 that I didn't like but I'll keep working on it, lol....
Jim is watching the Steelers and I'm going to work on my quilt squares and I'm hoping for no interruptions...
And for our dinner, I'm using Mary's KISS method and it's going to be pizza and maybe a salad......Did make the apple pie so we do have afters..........
Hope your day is a good one.....
Happy eating....................

Oh, Ghiradelli Square and the chocolate factory there - the old memories. I grew up just across the bay from there and would go for my birthday every year and get a Emperor Norton hot fudge sundae. Emperor Norton is a eccentric self proclaimed leader of San Francisco from the 1800's.

Irish--I saw an EAGLE overhead a little while ago!!! So impressive and beautiful and majestic. I'm always thrilled to see them and think of you. They nest over on the lake property. One of our friends saw a nest with is $3,000 binoculars. Now, if price is quality... that let's me out for seeing it. We do see the blue heron nests when we are walking over on the lake property. There is a rookery not too far in from our property. They are so prehistoric sounding with their calls. They even look strange when they fly.
You are right... not all gravy is the same. I try to make mine flavorful. They liked it and ate seconds, so must have passed their taste test!
I'm also taking jalapeno poppers along with the beer bread tonight.
HUGS!

Good Afternoon Everyone!
Tonight will be Fast Hash, green beans and Garlic Toast. (This is a big step for me!)
I have been drinking lots of water and resting a lot.
Maryz - I did not know about cat or cat skinner. I must have sounded really foolish to you, but did not know. Thanks for educating.
Jana - Hope you get to hear more from Stu!
Chickie - Love the idea of ducks on a pond. On vacation we saw a Blue Heron. Really special!
Becca - Sorry you are having fires near you. I would hate to evacuate!
Irish - Enjoy those Ghiradelli Chocolates. We brought some home from the shop in Monterey. We thought they would be a nice treat!
Have a great night everyone!
Carol
