SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, Oct 16th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Oct 16, 2016 4:29 am

Good Morning!

Well, we survived the storm! Sue, who lives up near Canadian border, said they fared well, too. Power didn't even flicker at either of our houses. Lots of rain, and some wind gusts, a few up to 50+ mph, but nothing too exciting. This will be Storm of the Week, but no way will it be Storm of the Century and probably not even Storm of the Year.

Today is my grandmother's birthday. She would be about 140 years old. She died 10 years before I was born so I never knew her. But I'm named after her and always heard a lot of stories about how nice she was. I feel an affinity for her. She was the oldest of 13 and raised in a fifth-floor walk-up tenement in NYC! How far we have come! 3,000 miles!

TINA - so sorry Frankie is sick! And now Bill is, too! And my 41 yr old son! I'm on the edge and willing myself not to catch it. Waiting to see. And I would love to come watch watch the house demo, but I think I'm going to be busy tomorrow morning. Hope all goes smoothly. and I hope there's no nails left in the ground for Frankie to find with his tractor tires!!

BECCA - have you heard from your DGS yet? So far, the storm isn't nearly as bad as they thought it would be, but then Hood Canal can see more extreme weather than us even though they are only an hour away. I'm glad you were able to get to the visitation last night and then home again before dark. I've never heard of Supper Chowder, but it sounds so logical! Is it an 'official' recipe or one you have devised for your family?

IRISH - you are probably enjoying brunch with family right about now! Hope they are giving you lots of hugs and let one of them be from me! Both your and Becca's storm stories sure are memorable!! Ugh - I'd rather have the Marines at my door checking me than being laid up with a broken leg! So Becca wins the 'rather have' award, but you get the 'worst experience' ribbon!

JANA - so will this sink be your hand-washing sink, too? There are some pretty nice looking laundry tubs/utility sinks out there right now. We have one in our laundry cubby. Boy, does it get abused! From washing painting supplies to laundering Scottie.

CHICKIE - yoo hoo!! What's cookin' at your house?

Our brunch this morning may not be such a rousing event. My son is sick so they are staying home. And so the gluten issue is now mute. I expect my DD and SIL will still come and maybe their oldest boy, Drew, who just turned 23. I am hoping to give Drew his Seahawk quilt today, his housewarming gift.

My chicken/rice/broccoli/mushroom/cheese/olive/ casserole last night was pretty good, if I do say so myself. Though, you know how it goes - these dishes take on a life of their own. We had enough to have fed the whole Supper Club! So we'll be eating on that for a while.

What's for Sunday Supper at your house?

Hello everyone,sunny & mild here.
Maryz Sorry the sick bug found your place too.DH thought yesterday he was coming down with something but appears ok today in that area.DGS said they got some wind but mostly just rain.Power out for 11/2 hrs I think.Said the little ones loved it because they could use flashlites. They are ok this morning.Glad it wasn't what they thought it would be.
My Dinner Chowder is a recipe I found in our paper years ago that became a favorite. It is very hearty & filling. That will be gracing our table today too.
Hope your brunch turns out well.

Irish What a bummer missing out on all the fun of sledding. Now snow isn't as much fun now that we are older. We used to let our dog sled with us & he loved it.Great memories. At least we can reminisce.lol

Tina Sorry I'll miss all the excitement.Hope it goes smooth for everyone.Sounds like a major job.

Jana Our big sink is a lifesaver for us.Gets lots of use.

To all others enjoy your meal. Will be soup & sandwich if wanted. Becca

Good morning!

Well, the storm is petering out here too. They keep promising rain, but so far, just wind. Gusts in the 50's, but that is fairly normal around here. We are still waiting for tonight's rain.

I have tons in the refrig to cook, just need to decide on something. Did make a ice box cake for dessert. Dessert is first! Chocolate chip cookies, in between layers of chocolate whipped cream. It's a recipe from the Barefoot Contessa. On a day like today, soup would be good.

Time to find some clothes and a dace for church.
Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon from warm, partly sunny, SW. Pa...We might be getting rain tonight and maybe into tomorrow but, that's OK.....I'll take the rain over snow any day.......

And again speaking of snow, it was during the time I had my broken femur that I met Jim, so I guess that year wasn't too bad...who would have thought?????

Mary, Oh My, hate to hear about Bill being sick...If it's what was going around here, it shouldn't last too long but the sore throat is nasty...Stay far, far away from him... Our breakfast really was breakfast....Jackie lives near Philadelphia and they wanted to get back on the road and get home early...But, no matter, it's always good to have the kids here...She said, they will be back for Thanksgiving...I think Cari and her new DH will be here in 2 weeks...Almost like having a revolving door....I've been thinking of the aprons we need for our trip to Becca's and we could have "Merry Maids" or the "Merry Swingers" if we just want to sit on the porch, embroidered on them....I'll let the color up to you but you know I do like green....

Tina, Hope your nursing duties are coming to an end and Frankie is feeling better....You might have told us, but will your parents be moving into a mobile home or having a home built? I am so sorry, years ago, we didn't have a small double wide put on our property...I would love to have something all on 1 floor.....

Not much happening the rest of the day....The Steelers are on and so far, winning but I'm sure, we'll both fall asleep watching them....Something about Sundays, newspaper and football games that really puts us into a nap mode.....Our Penguins won again last night which was great....But, Notre Dame lost again...I think they're loosing because Jim isn't there rooting them on....

I had a text from Kathy last night and she and DH took Dan and his gal to Tahoe and it was raining...She has every minute planned for these 2 after a day or 2 in Tahoe that will include quite a few places in California. Kathy really should have been a travel/tour guide.....

For dinner, not sure but might finally make my veggie/beef soup...But, we do have to go to Dan's and take care of the fur kids so maybe we'll pick up something....
The apple strudel or whatever I called it, really turned out great and will be making it again, soon......

Happy eating.................

Good Afternoon Everyone!
We arrived home yesterday from Monterey. It was cool and beautiful. We visited Point Lobos, the Aquarium and Elkhorn Slough. We had been to the first two numerous times, however it was our first visit to Elkhorn Slough. It is a National Estuary. We saw a Killdeer, Peregrine Falcon and a Blue Heron among other birds. On the way home we saw a pair of Egrets. We loved Elkhorn Slough (pronunced to rhyme with clue).

Tonight's dinner will be Stuffed Pepper Casserole. Last night we had Pasta and Meat Sauce. (Freezer really is wonderful.) I baked Chocolate Chip Cookies, Peanut Butter Cookies and Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies today. The weather is a cool 70*.

Here I am... late as usual. I was so bad Friday night for dinner, but it was so good. Yesterday I fixed DH a steak, but tonight I was off the rails again... so sorry!!!

This afternoon we went to Cherryvale (KS) and saw a screening of a new indie film about the Bloody Benders. They lived just a few miles from here in the late 1800s and ran a travelers inn. They were the first serial killers. People did not survive dinner or a night with the Benders. If you aren't familiar with the story... true Halloween nightmares!!! It's an interesting story. They were never caught...

I promise, dinner tomorrow night will meet with Mary's approval.

Speaking of... I've been hearing all the storm reports on TV. Glad to hear you are still O.K.???

Talk to you tomorrow...

Hi ladies :) just now making it here, we've been out and about. The Klobase was really good and the bingo was fun as usual, the weather was gorgeous. .. About 90 with a small breeze and lots and lots of family from all over. It was the 88th Klobase. We then came home to take care of our fur kids and Kevin and Maria came for a little while then we had to go back into town for a few groceries especially milk and stuff for the boys and we decidedto stop and split a burger at Denny's and then went grocery shopping and just got back home and everything put away. ... I'm so tired I'm ready for bed.
Irish, my parents own their own single wide trailer that will be moved on to their property. Itold Mom that if I could afford to buy her a new double wide I would but she said she prefers her single wide because they'd have a hard time keeping up with something that big LOL ok ;) I think she's just afraid to walk farther than she has been in something bigger.
I hope you all had a great day!
Mary, sorry all your family send to be getting sick too. .. I'm hoping you stay well though :)
I better scoot, I really am tired and will hopefully get to sleep good as tired as I am.
Tina
