SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Sept 30th

Good Morning, Ladies!
I think this is our last nice day here. Going to mid 60's or so but rain is starting tomorrow. Not big rain, but showers for the next several days. I may do a bit of yard work today after visiting Jim at the hospital. My sis is borrowing our car and going off to visit our cousin for lunch so I will have a little free time. And if the yard thing doesn't work out there is always vacuuming, laundry, cooking, and sewing to keep me entertained. It's good to have choices in life!
No more talk yet of Jim going to nursing home. He is going to have radiation at medical facility attached to the hospital, starting today, for ten days. And the radiologist wants him to stay 'in-house' for that because he has such a hard time with patients getting to him from the care facility - about 10 miles away. His surgeon was ready to discharge him to care facility where he could get P.T. So we'll see which doctor wins out.
IRISH - I love all your cookie choices, but have to admit I've never heard of Lady Locks. But I'm sure I'd love them, too! You almost sound like you're deep into holiday baking - only better! Sorry about all the confusion over the weekend respite care. But sounds like you have it all settled. But I loved your comment that the Social Worker just might be having company this weekend! Way to go, Irish! and banana bread does that to me all the time. I actually prefer baked things a tad underdone, but my quick breads seem to turn out baked on the outside and soupy on the inside! Nice save!
CAROLE WITH AN 'E' - welcome!! Glad to have you at the table! And ribs and sauerkraut sound tasty here! a pretty fancy dinner for not having shopped yet! I hope you are able to save your palm tree. And I hope we see you more often here! Someone's always got a good menu idea for when you have those 'no idea what to fix' days. Though you have to be careful, because 'some folks, have illegal ideas about banned substances.
- oh, and about garage door openers. Ours quit, too, last December. Bill called the company and they asked if we had LED Christmas lights on our house. Yes. They said for some reason LED Christmas lights, but not regular lights, interrupt the electrical connection to the garage door opener. Who knew??
SHERRY - I have often said the inventor of the crock-pot should be awarded saint-hood! I have three of them and use them all a LOT. Just don't put any kind of seafood in them because that would be 'illegal' on this site. Nothing. None. Nada. Unh-uh. Don't do it. Not here!! And you can see, everyone abides by the rules . .
CHICKIE - except for you!! You are such a rebel! ARRGGHHHH!!! Swordfish steaks!?! really?? We've sunk into total chaos!!
JANA - do you make wedding cakes often? I've only made one - Autumn's. And I had only 1 week notice that I was baking it. and it was four tiers high. I made it from scratch and I baked for 12 hours solid that day. And the big square layers took 4 'batches' of batter. And when I baked the first one, I realized my oven was 1/2" too small to accommodate the pan. The oven door hit up against the pan, tilted it, and the layer came out 1" on one side and 3" on the other. I had to remake it and bake it in my neighbor's oven.
Last night my sister treated us to pizza, so no cooking here! Tonite will be different. I think I'll bake that chicken I mentioned a few days ago with a creamy mushroom sauce, scalloped potatoes, and asparagus. And we might have leftovers enough for another night.
Bon appetit`!
