SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Sept 29th
Good Morning,
I've lost track of the days and had to actually go to the kitchen calendar where I keep my brains, to see what day it is. Thursday! Sept 29th! My oldest DD's 26th wedding anniversary. Hard to imagine those kids have been married for 26 years. They've known each other since they were about 9 & 12 years old. Married at 18 & 21. And they are still a love story for the ages.
Our Jim is still in the hospital but will be transferred to a care facility soon, possibly today. One that has some staff skilled with Parkinson's patients so he will get the P.T. he needs. We learned his bone cancer is Stage 4 and incurable. But they may treat it in an attempt to at least prolong his life once they find out what kind of ca it is. Or they may not. Time is short, no matter what they do. And my personal thought is quality trumps quantity at a time like this, but it's not my decision to make. And I'll fully support any decision he and Terry make.
CHICKIE - your hooligans are such a hoot! I can picture you riding all your trails with them running along side, scooting off into the brush on scents of who knows what.
IRISH - so good to hear happy in your 'voice'! I know you will be worried about your Jim, but please know he's in good hands and you so deserve to have a wonderful time at the wedding festivities. And just what kinds of cookies are you making? Yesterday I made some peanut butter cookies for Jim, got distracted when adding flour, think I added too much, tossed in an extra egg, more peanut butter, then remembered the baking powder, soda, and salt at last minute. What a mess! But we baked them anyway, and they weren't wonderful, but passable.
JANA - that does sound reasonable for cooked and pulled pork. And our sauce of choice is ALWAYS Sweet Baby Rays!
BECCA - if you are able to join us today, please know we've all been thinking and praying for you and for your DH. And so appreciate your DD's post! Get well soon!
TINA - such a bummer that your doctor appointment was a bust yesterday. If they try to charge you for it, it's time to get your ornery on! (all they did was tell Tina blood results that they'd already given her a week ago. She went for echocardiogram results! and they didn't have them!) In fact, I'd not only demand they not charge you, I think you should charge THEM! For wasting your valuable time! See - I've got MY ornery on!!
CAROL - I bet you've got something cooking on your back burner. I can smell the wonderful aromas of your cooking clear from here!
I'm not sure what today holds here other than visiting Jim, but since our travels to Texas are most probably cancelled, I think I'll get out our fall decorations and spread a little seasonal festiveness around. And perhaps make a nice supper. Maybe baked chicken with mashed potatoes, peas, and salad. Or - red beans & kielbasa over rice. I will have to see what the HOH chooses. And to one of us HOH means Head of Household, and to one of us it merely means Hard of Hearing. You can try to figure out on your own who is who. ;o)

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Sept 29th
Hi, I have decided to join you ladies today. I always read what you are having and know MaryZ will not let you eat the forbidden food . So following HER rules, we are having sauerkraut and ribs. Seeing we just got back from the summer in the mountains, not too much food has been gathered yet
When we got home we found our garage opener does not work, and the watering system on the plants/ trees is not working at all. We have been watering and think we saved our fruit trees, may have lost the Queen Palm. So repairmen will be arriving today and tomorrow. Ahhh home ownership.
Well off to get dressed and continue to put my sewing room back together.
Prayers for the folks in the train crash. So terrible

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Sept 29th
Well, good afternoon again from slightly chilly, dreary, wet, SW. Pa....I had started to write about 2 hours ago and then the "puter" decided to do it's thing and update, I guess, and now, we'll try again....But, that's the way things have been going today, really weird!
Mary, I can only imagine what you and the family are going through and I really agree with the quality of life but so darn hard to decide....A friend of mine, DH had bone cancer and up until the end, they did give him the chemo treatments and when I asked about it, she said, it was to keep the tumors from growing and breaking through the bone...Does make sense...But, thank goodness you have a great bunch of supporters, family means so much at a time like this.....
Funny about your cookies but I often will goof up but seems it doesn't matter, lol...Just today, I had to use up the bananas so popped 2 loaves of bread in the oven...Well, I thought they were done, poked in a tooth pick and thought it came out clean and took them out...Well, when I took them out of their pans, guess what, so popped them back in and I'm hoping for the best...And you know at this point, I really don't care, lol.....
But, so far, made pizzells, sugar cookies shaped like shamrocks (with green sprinkles), ginger snaps, thumb prints with plum preserves (used Kathy's home made preserves and they just happen to match the girl's dresses...Very clever Grammy, right), little nut roll dough in in the fridge and now I'm going to make mini cheesecake with cherrys on top....Cindy is making Lady Locks and 3 other kind...
Carole, I can imagine you're happy to be home, even if there are problems...I too, had a feeling you'd be whipping up something delish in your kitchen......
You know, I've been working with the VA and they were making the arrangements for respite care for the weekend...Well, had a call from the home and they didn't have a bed available, try to get the social worker on the phone and an hour later, home called and said, she then had a bed..At the same time, the social worker is trying to get me to tell me, he had a back up plan..I was ready to tell the social worker, he would have a visitor for the weekend, lol......By this time, I either need an aspirin or a very stiff drink...But, hopefully, everything will work out but my heart hurts every time I think of it......
Not sure what might be on our table tonight....Jim has been sleeping most of the day, so he probably won't feel like eating....Me, I can always grab a salad and my bag of chips...And have a feeling, there's cookies for after (maybe even banana/nut bread).....
Hope you all have a good day....
Happy eating..................

Haven't posted here in a very long time. Am curious what is Maryz's forbidden food. I have homemade veggie soup in my crockpot. Don't know what I would do without the "pot". Whoever invented it has my undying gratitude.
Had Bible study last night at church. We always have a good time and good discussion. Not getting much done today. Watching the news about the train wreck in New Jersey. Am praying for all of the injured.
Will try to get back here more often. Everyone enjoy there eating today.
Sherry

Good evening! I started here today and got sidetracked, now dinner is over with and the dishes have been cleaned up. I guess I have my ornery on today, too, as we had swordfish steaks this evening courtesy of our Florida visitors. They were delicious! Actually, they looked like pork tenderloin. We had little roasted potatoes, broccoli and sliced cherry tomatoes with the steaks. DH had vanilla pound cake for dessert, and I had some little triple ginger snaps from Trader Joe’s.
Mary—I totally lost a day as well. I really thought today was Wednesday and can’t figure what happened or what day I “lost”. That’s such a bizarre feeling. I had been watching the calendar so I could call and wish my aunt a happy birthday on Wednesday. I was shocked to find I missed it. I called this afternoon, and we had a delightful visit. Her DD, my cousin, came by, and I got to chat with her. I haven’t talked to Lisa since I was out there (CA) in 2004. We have HOH here, too. (grin!) I think I’ll take your red beans and kielbasa with rice for my menu tomorrow night… So sorry about your change of plans, but I know your heart is with your DB and totally understand. You wouldn’t enjoy being on the road… sigh! Ha, ha—I have followed that exact same recipe when making cookies… wonder they turn out at all sometimes when I cook!
Carole—it’s crazy what can happen when you are gone. Was there a thunderstorm in the area? Sounds like an electrical failure. I had a garage door opener that wouldn’t work. Come to find out, they had installed a GFI or GFCI receptacle in the garage and the opener was plugged into it. It just needed re-set after a thunderstorm that hit pretty close. Glad you are able to save your fruit trees—hopefully!!!
Irish—my DH had radiation and radio frequency ablation treatments on his bone metastases sites for pain management and to keep the tumors from growing larger. There was always the danger of a fracture.
Irish—your cookies sound wonderful!!! Wish I were there to bake with you. I’m so glad you are getting the respite care and hope, hope, hope it will all work out!!! HUGS to you!!!
Sherry—hello! Crockpots are one of the very best inventions… even better than an electric skillet! I love soup!!!
I quilted the dog’s quilt today and bound it for Mom. I think I’ll take it to town tomorrow, visit Mom and get my groceries. My friend is out of town, and I won’t be having coffee with her for a couple of weeks. I like that I can avoid Saturday grocery shopping!
So good to hear Becca’s surgery went well and hope for a successful outcome and uneventful recovery for her!
Today was BEAUTIFUL once again. I took a picture of what is left in my wildflower garden. The cosmos are spectacular in shades of hot pinks and magentas. There was one stalk of chicory left and a few of the little white wild asters or similar, but everything else is finished blooming for the summer. I had to water my “porch” plants and potted plants. I hope we don’t have an early frost, as they are still pretty… mostly begonias with one lantana, some nasturtiums, and Mandeville vines. I picked a small basket of cherry tomatoes.
Enjoy your evening!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Sept 29th
Just took out a banned noodle cassarole from the oven. Lots of gooey cheese in it.
Sherry - banned food is any fish. Sometimes we called it PNW treat - salmon, or there's pond fruit - trout, catfish, bass etc. You see Mary hates all fish, says that it is cat food. Around here we love the banned food.
Chickie - we haven't got a frost yet, but snow on the mountains. Don't feel bad, i lose more days around here and then try to add them in the same week. Some reason doesn't work!
Carole - glad your back. Maybe the battery is dead in the opener too. GFCI circuits cause lots of problems. Sarah had a freezer on one that would trip at a drop of a hat. We added a light bulb so we could easily check to make sure it was on.
Irish - praying all works out for Jim and you at the wedding. Cookies sound delish! Many times i have taken out a cake and later found it was way underbaked. It was usually a wedding cake tier. Michael loved it when i made those boo boo's.
Well see you in the morning, rather than after dinner.
Enjoy,
Jana
