SUPPER CLUB - Thurs, Sept 22

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Sep 22, 2016 10:17 am

A little late today! Sorry. My computer was dead this morning, then DH's brother came over to do some welding and his wife came with. For three hours. She's a quilter so we were able to keep ourselves amused with show and tell and talking fabrics and patterns. Now the brother is taking the project back to his house to finish the big welding so this afternoon we will be going up there (to Bremerton - 30 miles) to pick the thing back up. so I'll go with and we'll show and tell HER quilts.

I baked chocolate chip cookies with oatmeal and peanut butter tossed in for good measure. Yum!! Recipe made 5 dozen and one cookies.

JANA - Your church is too confusing for me! I like the Catholic Masses. They are about 1 hour long (shorter if the priest is a baseball fan and the game starts early! lol!) and you have your choices of which Mass to attend. I like Saturday evenings the best, but our church also has 8:30 and 11:00 Masses on Sunday mornings.

CHICKIE - Jana's idea of creating muscle memory for those feathers is a tried and true technique. Which I have yet to master! But only because I haven't practiced them much since Bill is the quilter here. But I did do one quilting method once that worked well. It might be hard on a domestic machine though - I 'wrote' a letter to my grandson using the long-arm. It made purrfect quilting and he got the message of how much he was loved - because I literally said it on his quilt!

BECCA - Does your DS live close to you? I feel for you and for your hubby, too. I'm sure he worries about you as much as you worry about him. Hope there's gas for everyone to get where they need to be.

IRISH - As long as you are still getting the necessarys done, it doesn't matter how fast you go. It's the cats that matter, right? >^*^< And they got their food! Glad you are getting along. Does Jim wear an ID bracelet? Though that electronic anklet sounds like an awesome idea if he were to wander. I'm not a Survivor watcher, sorry. But I do like DWTS!

TINA - I hate when things I used in the past, especially as an adult!!, are now termed "antique". Sheesh! How old do THEY think I am!!

HELEN - I sent you a PM, but basically if you watch Eleanor's video here on this forum, it shows in great detail exactly how we made my sewing table, because I think she copied us!! lol!

Dinner tonite - I have no idea. We are out of bread and milk, so a stop at the store may happen later this afternoon when we are out to Bill's brother's house. Or we may have scrambled eggs and crackers. Spaghetti is a possibility. I have some broccoli. But there are those in this house that would not appreciate a meal planned around broccoli.

I hope your plans are better organized than mine!

Hi Everyone!
I really have been eating, but not really cooking very much. Tonight will be Pasta and Turkey Meat Sauce.

Maryz - Your cookies sound like you combined everyone's favorites! I have been wanting to bake an oatmeal cookie bar recipe, but it has been too warm. Your sewing table sounds so neat. I have never seen a farm table in Los Angeles though. They may exist, but I don't know where.

Becca - Good idea to have things in the freezer, prior to surgery. Next week I have a colonoscopy and also have a few things for my DH in the freezer for the couple of days before.

Chickie - I agree with Maryz about the muscle memory. It takes lots of practice, but many accomplish beautiful results. Do think cursive letters c, e, and l to practice.

Jana - Yes, your house is always busy! Are you busy baking cookies for the wedding or looking for a dress?

Irish I am thinking of you and wishing you well.

I have been re-focusing on sewing the Pink Lemonade quilt I had been working on. I just have borders left now. I thought I needed 12 blocks, but when I placed them on the bed I realized nine blocks would be enough. It did speed things up. I had already made 12 blocks, but one was really not good enough to use and would need to be remade. It must have been my first one.

Carol

I’m here! Dinner tonight was clean out the fridge… burger for DH and lasagna with salad for me. I put 6 one gallon bags of pie-ready apples in the freezer today. Each one makes 3 small pies or a big 9x13 pan. I still have more apples, but I don’t know if I want to peel and prepare them. My freezer is fairly full. I am going to make pies tomorrow. DH will be thrilled. I’m also on Mom duty for a week, and I’ll take a small pie to her tomorrow.

Mary—sounds like you had a busy day! At least you had a quilter for visiting and show and tell. Sounds like a fun time!!! I hear you with the grumbling revolt if either one of us made a meal centered around broccoli. It has to be MEAT and a bite of a veggie here. We make a great pair—he eats the meat, and I eat the veggies.

Still quilting feathers, and I can almost do them freehand. It’s quite a quilting journey! I doubt I ever quilt a quilt this heavy again, but it’s fun to learn and know I can. I also have notebooks that I practice in with a pencil or marker doing different motifs.

Carol—Thank you for the encouragement! I put an oven liner on the extension table and machine with a cut out for the presser feet and drop in bobbin. It really makes the table slicker and easier to slide the quilt. I taped it on with duct tape… gold duct tape! I like the pink lemonade pattern. Maybe you can make a table runner with the extra blocks or use them for matching pillow shams.

Becca—too hot to walk again today, but we are going to be in the 70s next week! It will feel frigid after the 90s! We are slower here, too. DH doesn’t like to get up early, so I just sleep in too and go to bed when he does. It was quite a change from when I worked. It’s hard to get up earlier here, as I disturb him. If hubby ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy in this house…

Jana—I learned penmanship in California public schools, and I know all about the loops and push-pulls… LOL! I filled in around some of my feathers with pebbles and micro meanders, and some “McTavishing”. This is kind of a crazy feather sampler quilt.

Irish—that idea of a bracelet with a GPS chip might be a great idea… if it’s available. If not, we should invent it, patent it, and RETIRE!!! LOL!!! I would think it would be useful for children, wandering adults, nursing homes, etc.

I’m about ¾ or a little more finished with the quilt. Then it will be binding. I’ll be glad to finish a UFO! Since I’m making pies and going to see Mom tomorrow I don’t know how much I’ll get done on it. I might get it finished Monday or Tuesday.

Have a great rest of your evening!
