SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Sept 19th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Sep 19, 2016 3:10 am

Good Morning!

You won't believe this, but yesterday I spent part of the morning getting Christmas gifts ready to take on the road this winter to my sisters and DD. I think my shopping is done! Between getting all that out of my quilting room, and the bags of stuff I had for my grandson's new house (he got the keys, finally!), it almost looks like a wasteland in there! Whoo Hoo! Our afternoon was spent hauling wood for Jim & Terry in our tractor from out behind the church. One big round at a time. In four hours, we got about half of it done. Have to go back next weekend. We saved the biggest ones for last so Bill will have to saw most of the rounds in half to fit them into the bucket. I'm the tractor driver. We travel on a narrow trail between the back of the church and a rock wall - 2" to spare on either side - and then up a grassy hill and across the playground to the truck. Jim sat in his wheelchair and watched the first load and just stayed in the truck the second load. But his spirits were good and his mind clear today. :o)

Today is rainy so it will be indoor things around here - uglies, some elf-sewing, and we might go shopping for some small things for the trailer - towel bars, dish drainer, rack to hang chairs on the ladder, etc. Depends on what Bill has on his project plate.

IRISH - Where in the PNW is your granddaughter going? and when? We're starting our rainy season early this year. She may want to know. How great to get to travel to so many wonderful places! We didn't fare any better with our football yesterday. We taped the game and watched it last night. I knew the ending score but kept that to myself so Bill would enjoy the game. I've been thinking of Joanne a lot lately, too. Her RA got so bad that she had to all but give up sewing and any handwork.

BECCA - oh, I think we'd all love to be on that porch with you! But please! Don't make me try to knit! Been there, done that, more than once. I'm a dismal failure. But I CAN do a little bit of crochet . . . Sure hope they get your gas up and running soon! Guess this crisis puts a little brighter focus on electric cars, doesn't it.

CAROL - I'm so glad you are enjoying your genealogy I found my great-grandmother's name (a name I'd never heard before!) and I think she came from Germany and she lived/died in White Cloud, MN (very close to Mary Q) but she's a dead end. I can find no record of her death or burial. Just my GGF's remarrriage.

CHICKIE - Did you get to sew yesterday? And how did the FM quilting go? Those frixion pens might help to guide you on small projects. I did a queen quilt on my Bernie several years ago and my neck and back were killing me so badly afterwards that we went out, shut our eyes, and bought our first quilting machine. Just a short arm, but it sure saved the neck!

Last night I thought I was thawing the jambalaya, but instead found out it was some southwest chix & rice. Bill suggested we not bother to save the leftovers from the leftover leftovers. lol! Tonite I think I'll saute up some sliced kielbasa and an assortment of veggies. Maybe some fried potatoes on the side. and sliced tomatoes.

What's the plan at your house?

Good morning! I started on the quilt yesterday and made one feather... so far! I'm pleased... only got out the seam ripper at the end. It's all patterned fabrics on front and back, so it doesn't look as bad finished as I think it does while quilting. I'm sure a teenager won't be too critical... well, I hope not anyway! I know what you mean about neck and shoulders, but I get that way quilting straight lines. This is definitely more intense. I have an extension table for my machine, but I really wish I had a recessed table. I may look into it... This one is bigger than a throw, but not quite as large as a twin quilt... all the big I want to do!!!

Dinner tonight... hummmm... think I'll go out to the freezer and see what falls out. Too early to decide yet.

Becca--I'd love you to teach me knitting, but then I'd have to find time to knit! I can do knit and purl... ribbed stitch and stockinette. That's it... no cables or anything fancy. I can do crochet if I can remember what someone showed me. I can't figure out how to read patterns and put the words on them into what I'm doing with my yarn. I made a lot of afghans years ago from one main pattern and maybe another two, but I've lost any instructions I once had (written in my way of doing it--not book patterns). I'm just dense when it comes to those abbreviations, I guess. I can always sit on a porch and read!!! We'll get Irish to come and hope there are lots of UPS deliveries and Schwann's deliveries in your neighborhood!

To quote Dorothy, from the Wizard of Oz,

There's no place like home!

We are there! When we got in, Gracie saw Grandpa and immediately wanted him to pick her up. She went everywhere with him. Then Ethan came over and was velcro-ed to me.

Tomorrow the car goes in for its spa treatment, to be detailed and have a special finish on the leather snd on the outside paint. They will have fun washing her, currently she is covered in bugs that gave their all! Joke hrre - what's the last thing to go through a bugs mind when he hits your windshield? His butt! LOL OK - i will stop.

Need to hit the grocery store for fresh stuff. Thrn will plan finner.

Enjoy,
Jana

Hello everyone,Nice sunny day here after the rain yesterday. We never made it past. 67 yesterday.too damp to sit on porch.Stayed in & watched the ball game & we won.

Chickie & Irish & others come on over & we will have a great time learning to knit.I used to teach.Chickie Sorry no delivery men but UPS.Lol What a time we could have.

Maryz They are saying 2 wks on the gas shortage but who knows.I wanted to go yesterday since we were down to 1/4 tank.but DH said wait.He calls me while I am on my walk.Telling me they have gas & he will pick me up to go.He can't drive.I am almost to top of drive & he mets me.Parks with tire right at edge of road ready to go in ditch. Then we go to town.Lines are formed. We get pinned in & he starts panicking.A lady in front of us goes in Station to tell attendant that truck has us blocked. She comes out to ask us to back up after the other cars back up.Meanwhile the cars in other line give us a break & let us thru to leave.so it was a fun excursion.lol But we did get filled up.

Carol You can join me on the porch too.I love knitting.Learned 54 yrs ago.Would love to have company.

After the fun trip I come home & made chipped beef over toast for DH.Made me a chicken breast salad. And I found some yummy grapes at market. Becca
