SUPPER CLUB - Sun. Sept 18th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Sep 18, 2016 4:00 am

Good Morning!

Our dog is crazy this morning. And someone in the neighborhood got a dog this summer that sounds like it is a werewolf instead of a dog! Scares everyone! And that 'werewolf' is howling up a storm this morning. And Mr. Scot does NOT like it!

My luncheon yesterday was OK, but despite my telling the other three girls TWICE that it was our Dec birthday/Christmas gathering (because I will be gone mid-Oct thru Feb 1 and one of them will be gone from now until end of Oct.) they still didn't understand that and seemed to have no recollection that this is how we have done it several times in the past to accommodate everyone's schedules. So we had lunch and caught up but no one else brought their gifts except for me.

Then in late afternoon Bill went to my brother, Jim's, to use his drill press, had a beer with Jim, and came home saying Jim's mind was wandering. An hour later we got a call that Jim had fallen and Terry couldn't get him up. We raced over there (2 miles) and it took all three of us to get him up and then another 15 minutes to get him to walk 3 steps, using a walker, to his big lounge chair. He said he was getting up to gather dirty dishes and clean a mess "the little kids" had made. There were no little kids. Terry keeps saying the meds are causing hallucinations but I'm not so sure it's the drugs anymore. I don't know how much longer we can keep him home. It's a full-time job caring for him but Terry does it. We help where we can. Their three kids moved out of state when things started getting bad, so they are no help whatsoever. I am really hesitant to go south this winter because that will leave them with no one for back-up support but Bill is pretty insistant we go. I want to go later, but he doesn't want to do that either. My next closest sibling lives 2 hours away and he is 80 and has his own problems. So it was a stressful evening. We were going to cut/haul wood for J&T today but we'll see what he is like this morning.

BECCA - I'm glad you had a good brother who wouldn't let you shoot the sling shot backwards! Have a good porch day! Do you like to read or do handwork or just sit and watch the world?

CHICKIE - you really had a busy day! If anyone was watching your pick-up go back and forth they probably got a case of swivel-neck! Hope you get to stay home today and preferably in your play-room!

CAROL - oh, I love genealogy. I've had a site on Ancestry.com for years. I don't do a lot with it anymore because these darn quilts take up so much of my time. I discovered there were 4 sets of twins in my dad's family - one set were his nephews though one died. He never said a word to me about them! Since then, two of my brothers have each had twin grandchildren born. I also dis-proved a few of my dad's dearly held family myths. But I never told him.

Supper - who knows! I have a little jambalaya left in the freezer. (with sausage, no shrimp!!) so we might have that with salad. I am trying to 'eat down' our freezer before leaving for the winter.

Hello everyone.Cloudy here today & cooler.Yesterday was so nice, much cooler & you could feel Fall in the air.

We are in Emergency State here in NC .Our gas is hard to find. Most stations don't have any. Will have big affect on both sons business. My DS that owns a plumbing business has 17 trucks on the road.My DD DSIL & all their family are headed home today from the beach.Hope they all can find gas. May affect my eye surgery but will not get upset about that .Whatever happens happens.

Maryz I feel for you trying to make the decision about leaving.Hard to know that DB & DSIL are alone. But you have to think of Bill too.He is always so good to help out when needed.Too bad their Children won't take responsibility.Sure hope it all works out for the best.
My porch sitting is either books ,knitting or hand sewing. But sometimes I too enjoy the view & nature. It is peaceful & I love to swing.Know it won't be too long before it is over until next Summer. In Spring the pollen gets me.

Irish I love the eagle updates.Prayers for quick healing for you.And hugs for a better peaceful day.Sure hope Jim is settled today.

Chickie I got dizzy reading all about your day.You needed a breather somewhere along the way.Hope today is a stay at home day for you.Know Moms quilt is pretty.Even if DS had to go along.May there be smiles in your day.Hugs.
Our neighbors here are from Fort Myers.Plan to ask about the Resturant.

Carol My cousins on both sides have really done their homework. And DHs cousin did the same.I have lots of family history.Maryz I got a chuckle from your dis proofs .

Jana Hope you got to enjoy at least part of your trip.Know it wasn't good circumstances.

Tina Prayers that you are ok & just busy like always.

DH isn't hungry again. He wants a beef sandwich.Just hope he eats something. Will make me a salad with smoked turkey breast. Becca

Good Afternoon Evderyone!
Maryz - Yes disproving parents comes with genealogy territory. I was able to tell my Mom how her grandmother died though and she was amazed at the things I learned and taught her. Wish I could tell her now what I have found. My Dad would be so pleased if I had been able to tell him! It is so much easier now than it was even just a few years ago. I only have a six month membership and will probably not renew Ancestry, so I am making the best use of it now.

Jana - Know it wasn't good circumstances, but your post in Sew-in sound like life lessons were taught. I read something last week about writing an Ethical will, meaning we write down the life lessons we would like to teach others.

Becca - I wish I could sit on the porch with you and knit. I am just learning and would like someone nearby that knits well and would knit with me.

Tonight will be chicken. I roasted a chicken breast last night, so tonight I may make a mustard sauce so I can warm it up.

Carol

Oh, Mary--that's so sad about your DB. I can certainly understand not wanting to be caught out over a thousand miles away in case of an emergency. Modene was always seeing "people" and telling hilarious tales about their antics. Fortunately none of the hallucinations left her scared. They were her friends. We got used to it all. Her overall health was so much better than your brother's. It's so tough. Hope you can get things worked out before you leave. Sorry about the luncheon fluff.

Becca--I'm doing laundry (5 loads) and cleaning floors today. I'm about ready to go see what trouble I can get into in my play room. I'm thinking about trying to start free motion quilting on my machine on a real quilt... not just practice pieces. Scary! That's neat you have friends there from Ft. Myers! It's actually called Fancy's Southern Cafe. I looked it up, and it has a 4.3/5... mostly good reviews and some great raves...

I think dinner will be some of the hamburger patties I made last night and some fried potatoes. I'm really not into cooking after making DH pancakes this morning while I was trying to do laundry.

Enjoy!

P.S. Becca—I saw where there was a big pipeline spill in Alabama. It carries all the petroleum products for the South and East of the country. They have it shut down for repairs… hopefully you won’t be without for too long. Reminds me of the gas shortages and lines of the 70s. I’m sure your prices skyrocketed. I also hope they prosecute the gas price scalpers!

Carol—DH’s sister does a lot of genealogy for their family. DH did a lot of it for years and learned lots of interesting stories. I’ve tried several times to learn more about my dad’s family but come up with dead ends. I haven’t pursued it with much $$. I found out his sister was his half sister and I think there was a MUCH later sibling that he may not have known at all.

Good afternoon from a slightly cooler, drizzly SW. Pa....It's been dreary but that's OK, we do need the rain......And one good thing, when it's raining or wet outside, Jim doesn't wander.......

Oh Mary, what a headache and heartache for you.....I would think some of your DB's meds could be helping with the hallucinations but also think as you're thinking....With Jim, at 1st, I would try to correct him but now when he tells me about "those people", I just go along with and sometimes, I'll say, one of these days, they're going to have to start paying rent....My friend, Virginia took care of her DM and she was forever telling Gin, there was someone in the attic...They lived in a mobile home at the time...It is just about the saddest thing, seeing this happen to someone close.....And as Becca said, you do have to think of Bill.....Hard, hard decisions.....

Becca, you have no idea how much I appreciate your message....You might be miles and miles away but you are a special neighbor...You accident with your toes doesn't sound like too much fun....You can borrow my moniker (Gimpy) any time you want...I'm like Carol, so wish I had someone to teach me how to knit...Enjoy your swinging day.....

Chickie, I had to go back and read your about your adventures....My heavens girl, slow down.....I'm going to have to ask my friend, Virginia, about that restaurant. She and a gal friend go for lunch every Monday after she's done with delivering Meals on Wheels and is always looking for some place new (to them).....Would love to see pictures of Mom's quilt.....

Our weekend has been kind of peaceful...Yesterday we went and picked up a pizza, then the kids called to say they would be here for breakfast so off we went to get more breakfast stuff....Other than Notre Dame loosing last night, we had a good day....This morning, we had a bunch of grand kids, along with Jackie who was in for the weekend.....She is Kathy's oldest DD and had just gotten back from Africa and brought 3 huge albums of her pictures....When I think of Africa, I always thought dark and jungle but they went to S. Africa and it was absolutely gorgeous.....Next trip is planned for PNW, so Mary, get ready...........But, we sat and ate and gabbed and it was purrrfect...After I got things cleaned up, time to sit with the foot up with more coffee.....We do have both the Pirates and the Steelers on today and am flipping back and forth....Pirates were loosing but the Steelers were ahead...Both are playing Cincinnati and I keep thinking of Joanne and wondering how she's doing....

For our dinner, left over pizza and left over apple strusel from breakfast...

Happy eating...................
