SUPPER CLUB - Sat, Sept 10th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Sep 10, 2016 4:23 am

Good Morning!

It's another cool, crisp fall morning here, though we'll be going to about 73* I believe. We are having a fire in the wood stove most evenings now. And those flannel sheets sure felt good last night!

Today is getting the trailer ready and packed to go camping - our first trip out with the new rig. Hope I can find where I stashed everything! Bill has been busy making necessary modifications - the cat flap into the storage bays where he also made a spot for the litter box, and clear acrylic over the lower half of the screen door because of kitty claws. We do a lot to accomodate our cats. sometimes they are a headache, but can't imagine life with a cat! Or three. . .

Also, my son and DIL are coming today to quilt a baby quilt they made. They said they are bringing lunch so no food fixing here! It will be good to see them. Babies have been hatching in her family so she's been making quilts for them. And then bringing then here to quilt them so we get to see my son!! Love it!

IZZY - your dinner sounds like a fresh-from-the-garden treat! Taste of Home magazine had a recipe for zucchini cupcakes in it last issue. My neighbor made them and they were WONDERFUL!

CHICKIE - Yay on the rain! 1.7" would be a lot for here. I hope you get more soon. That Boomer is a character! His antics always make me laugh! And I'm sorry, but you made me laugh, too - your mom making a quilt for your sister's dog but not for you. You try that begging on all fours thing and maybe you'll earn yourself a treat! Er, I mean a quilt!

IRISH - wishing a good report and the S&D doc! Never heard of cookies as a tradition at a wedding reception. Just cake. Though I remember there were cookies at my reception back in January, 1971. Because my groom's aunt was Swedish and cooking was her thing. She took over the reception and made whatever she wanted. and she wanted cookies!

TINA - you know you are earning extra rubies in your celestial crown for not killing your parents! They are certainly adding a difficulty factor into the whole Honor Thy Parents thing!

BECCA - I've got your eye surgery date on my calendar. Wishing you well. And congrats on your new baby girl in the family! Wren! Love the name!

LADY CAROL - I saw you on FB! Your pinwheel quilt is lovely! Now come to supper!!

We were going to have more veggie soup last night for supper but got an impromptu call from friends inviting us to happy hour at the local Mexican Restaurant. and we always eat something there. Then we stopped for a visit with my brother who, for him, looked fairly OK. He has an appointment with an orthopedist on Tuesday for his stress fracture in his front pelvic bone. After two months it's worse than ever and they finally decided they should see a specialist. This is their M.O. The Wait and See if it Goes Away Method of Healing. so by the time he actually decides to see a doctor it's too late to do much.

Today my son and DIL are bringing lunch to us and they plan to quilt a baby quilt they made for her cousin's baby. We will be packing the trailer and then this evening for supper we are meeting two more couples for Italian food! As soon as we put a week of camping on our calendar our social life took a big upswing! We have a supper out tomorrow, too.

I hope your supper is tasty tonite, too!

Well dinner last night was yummy I improvised and had added Siracha garlic seasoning. Well may have added a tad bit too much lil spicy lol. But still yummy. Today will add some ground goat meat and another can of tomato paste to thicken and turn into a sauce;)

Irish, I had to laugh when you call dr slice and dice. Your poor dh has been through it.

Mary have fun camping with kitties. I am worried about Dresden when we leave at end of month. but I hope in two more weeks she will be closer to normal.

Tina I feel your agony as I argued yesterday with mom over the guy who cuts her grass: she was upset cause the grass is on the shed OCD and he doesnt clean it off. So she doesnt say anything to him; and so that she doesnt hurt his feelings she wants to ask neighbors man to cut her grass!! So I ask her firing him wont hurt his feelings LOL I told her she wasnt changing mowers that she just needed to tell him her concerns when he comes. UGH. I will have to call him this week I am sure.

Chickie so who does your momma make all her pretties for then; cause I know you say she is always making something.

All you ladies stay so busy.
Hugs and prayers and happy cooking:)

Good morning from warm, sunny, SW. Pa...It is a purrfect day for sheets drying on the line....

Mary, you know, I'm a fan of flannel sheets but right now, even I would be too warm, lol....Yes we do a lot for our fur kids and I often think, what would I do without them...When my friend, Linda, the Sheltie lover, was getting her new puppy, she said, she just needed someone to talk to and I think that's how I feel...BabyGirl and I carry on lots and lots of conversations...Even, Jake, the feral, likes to chatter away and of course I understand everything he's saying.....
Jana, mentioned cookies at their receptions and I had heard that but usually, it's not done....Years ago, when Kevin was getting married, his future MIL was more worried about having enough cookies than anything else...Kevin said, she rated a reception by the dozens of cookies, lol.....Cari is also having cupcakes instead of a big cake...She's having a small cake for her and Matt to cut but thought it would be nice to do something different....
In my dreams last night, I spent the whole night making Cari's wedding gown...Talk about weird dreams and I hadn't eaten anything different......

I also saw Lady Carol's quilt and it's gorgeous...You tell her, Mary, get back to the table!

Good thoughts and best wishes for everyone today....
Today, no more goofing off, I need to get serious and get with it! I'm hoping, with a full day of football, maybe Jim will get interested....Notre Dame is on at 3:30, our time...Playing Nevada, which is right next to Kathy's PO and when I talked to her last night, she said, the kids are really pumped....

For our dinner, I'm really leaning towards that "take out" menu...Pizza is sounding better and better........

Happy eating.............

Trivia for the day: In 1846,on this day, Elias Howe received a patent for his sewing machine......(If he only knew what he started!)

Good afternoon! We had thunderstorms last evening that produced 1.8”! Right before the storms hit, I went and let DS3’s dogs out for the night. He was working.

Mary—so neat that DIL is making quilts and you get to see your son! Cute!!! Life without kitties is difficult. I miss them, but three hooligans kind of make up for it. Odie is pressed next to me in bed… much like a kitty! So glad to hear Riley has a private potty place! I don’t think begging will get me a quilt from Mom. Sigh!

Becca—congratulations!!! I, too, love the name Wren. My mom made hand quilted masterpieces for my niece to use as floor mats for her kids to play on… It is what it is here.

I like the idea of cookies for a wedding reception. When my DD got married, I made a smaller tiered cake and “satellite” cakes for cutting rather than sheet cakes. They were decorated like the wedding cake and basically part of the cake but detached. I’ve been to weddings where they had the cake and decorated cookies as take-home favors. I also like the cupcakes idea.

Irish—I made my DD’s wedding gown. She picked out a $2,500 gown and I copied it and got it made for about $250 by using coupons at Cloth World. It was a lace and pearl encrusted ivory satin creation. Making a wedding gown now would be a NIGHTMARE!

Izzy—Sriracha is my favorite spice! Mom makes her creations for my sister and her DD and DGKs. She has also made lots for their friends and acquaintences.

Last night we had stoup—to use Rachel Ray’s terminology… not exactly stew, not exactly soup. It was real good, and we have another couple of meals left from it… but not tonight!

Dinner tonight… no cooking! Well, sorta… We are invited to a 40th birthday party for one of the “kids” on the fire department and friends of ours and our kids. So… I’m making a decorated cookie, brownies and two batches of beer bread to take. It’s a big s----p boil—YUM! I’m sure half the township or more will be there, and it’s fun to visit with everyone.

The cookie is ready to decorate… Have a great evening!

Good Evening Everyone!
Maryz - Congratulations on the new motorhome! Know you will enjoy the many trips you will take.

Becca - Congratulations on the new baby! What a wonderful blessing all is well.

Irish - Things will work out with the move your son will undertake. Hopefully Nick will finish his senior year at the present school. My DH moved in with friends so he could finish High School in Texas, when his parents moved back to Kansas City. He was Valedictorian of his class too!

Chickie - 1.8" or 1.7" would be a torrential downpour for here!! Have you had two days of rain! Wow!

Jana - Congratulations on your new car! It is always exciting to get a new car. Enjoy!

Izzy - Poor little kitten!

Tonight's supper was Stuffed Pepper Casserole. I told you I made it and had one in freezer for a busy day. Today was a busy one.

Carol
