SUPPER CLUB - Sat, Aug 20
Good morning!
This morning we are off to the Bremerton Naval Shipyard for Family Day. My SIL is a superintendant there and now my DGS has worked there for 2 years already. So we get to tour their places of work and maybe even an aircraft carrier. The USS Stennis just pulled in last week. Do you know it takes 3 yrs to refuel the nuclear powered subs and ships - and then can run for another 20 years on that 'tank'! But this is a big deal, security-wise. We had to give info a month ahead of time so we could get checked out for enough security clearance to see where our boys work. Most of this tour is either outside or in non-A/C areas - and it's going to be 94* today.
To be honest, we forgot about this until last night. I HAD planned to take today and tomorrow to clean, wash clothes, bake, precook some foods for camping, and pack the trailer. We are leaving Monday morning for a week of camping. So I guess I'll still do it all - but just in one day!
CHICKIE - that Odie is a corker! And come to think of it, he looks a lot like my parents' dog, Corky! but Corky never came up with some of the interesting things Odie does! lol!
BECCA - I'm so sorry to hear that your DH had to sell his riding mower. Seeing that handwriting on our own walls here, I feel for him, and for you. That is so nice that your one brother is with your ill brother. Family support can make all the difference.
JANA - I bet Ethan had a blast while camping. We camped several times a year when I was little, which is probably why I still love it to this day. And I remember being so excited when the folks started packing. So much fun, we could hardly get it all in! Fishing with Daddy, playing in the river, making secret camps in the woods. Plus, I got to stay up late and sit around the fire with the big people!! Oh yes, Ethan had fun! Your butterscotch brownie recipe does sound similar to Carol's. But a pound of brown sugar? How many bars does it make? We had just the right amount. Shared them with my brother and only had a couple for ourselves! I'd bake more, but then we'd eat more.
TINA - I hope you slept better. and get your pizza soon! I usually make my own and often use at least half whole wheat flour. I can control what goes onto it so it's somewhat healthy - turkey pepperoni, and lots of veggies and not a whole lot of cheese. Yum! One of my go-to meals. But there are days when cooking ANYTHING is just out of the question!
IRISH - How did the Soc Serv appt go? I hope you can find some back-up. Though bringing a stranger into your house might present some problems for Jim. Is it possible to work something out with his friend, Ted, so you can have a weekly errand day? Glad to hear 'our' little eagle is now soaring on his own!!
CAROL - oh, yes, it's warm here. Sewing to stay cool isn't really an option. I live in the woods, but still the afternoon sun streams through my sewing room window. I pull the shade and that helps some. I think after today, we're going back to normal temps, though. I'll probably freeze after that! lol!
Dinner last night ended up being burgers on the grill and corn on the cob. Tonite - ravioli in alfredo sauce, I think. And salad. And no, it's not homemade ravvies. Though I will make my own sauce.
What's on your menu tonite?

Hello everyone,
Maryz You are the early bird.A busy day you have planned.Never knew they could go 20 yrs without refueling.yes that means giving up what little independence he had left.
Maryz My DB that is sick lives alone so it's great my DB can go help.He told me yesterday he has lost 25 lbs & has no desire to eat.Cannot even conceive how a Dr wouldn't suspect cancer.
Irish I am like Mary ,it is a lot to think about to have a stranger sit with Jim.Guess it all depends on how receptive he is.Know you need help because when I go do errands I rush all the time trying to get home.Hope Jim is cooperative.
Glad the eagle is soaring again.
Jana I can see why any child would love camping.Ours always did.I did too but we sold it after DH had his stroke.Nothing like a campfire.
Tina Hope things are getting better for you with Dad & Mom.
Carol Hope you & DH have a great wkend.
Chickie Keep Odie in line today.lol
DH asked for his bacon. So BLTs it is for him.I have lots of good salad fixings. Becca

This is a quick in and out... Mom was doing well today. I cut strips for her little border, then she already has patches for the outside border of her quilt. It's really going to be pretty. I wish I was to be the lucky recipient, but it's not going to happen... sigh!!!
Late yesterday afternoon, we had a text from Son #2, and his wife's mother had passed away suddenly that morning. So, I ran and got a bag of apple slices from the freezer and made crusts and took in 3 apple pies (8" disposable pans). We ate Chinese food while in town, so dinner tonight is the leftovers from last night's plan. I now have a stash of veggies to go with my hummus.
The Hooligans are going to be thrilled. We get to go for a walk and see Ava this evening while her parents are at a wedding and late reception.
We had a rain storm last evening, and today is lovely... nice the dust has settled!
Enjoy!

Tonight after a late Retina Specialist Doctor appointment we had a frozen dinner. We only do this once in a while. I was really not up to cooking and there were no leftovers.
Becca - Your DH is lucky he has you to take care of him and feed him.
I get you do worry the whole time you are running errands.
Chickie - Condolences for you DDIL and her family on the loss of her Mother. You are really quick with apple pies!
Maryz - Hope you had fun today at the Naval Shipyard! Hope temperatures were a little more on the normal side today.
Have a great evening!
Carol
