SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, July 19h

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Jul 19, 2016 3:30 am

Good Morning!

Another coolish day here today - low 70's - and we may even get a few showers. But I do see 80 looming for the end of the week. While I'm not a fan of heat, I do enjoy wearing shorts and sleeveless tops, so I'm saying, "Bring it on!"

Yesterday I got the laundry finished, the trailer cleaned, and also picked enough blackberries - almost to the berry! - for one batch of jam. yay! It's Autumn's favorite, so you know where it's going! So I texted her that her jam was ready, and she said she'd come pick it up - MONDAY!!! I haven't seen my baby in almost two years but she is 'stopping by' (from Austin, TX) next Monday/Tuesday. She is making a quick trip home to meet up with her old, and still best friends from high school so they can all celebrate their 40th birthdays. So it will probably be only for dinner but I'll be seeing my girl in 6 days!!

BECCA - so what color did you get to add to your quilt? Last night while watching the GOP Convention, I was coloring in a quilt/cat adult color book and picking the colors for the quilt - and the cats! - was the hard part!

IRISH - I'm sorry, but I did chuckle - but with tears in my eyes - at your and Jim's adventures yesterday. the scary part was the thought of you up on a ladder climbing through a window! How long has Jim had his diagnosis? You always sound so upbeat and chipper, but I know life is hard for you. We have two friends here who are dealing with the same thing. One for about six years and one is newly diagnosed.

JANA - Hope your Michael finds relief for his tooth pain! You must be getting ready for the painter. And Adam-12 - high drama for its day! I think Martin Milner just died in this past year, didn't he?

Tonite's supper - I'm not sure because we are going to a wedding this afternoon and it's about 80 miles away. There is a schedule: 3pm-cocktails, 4pm-ceremony, 5pm-dinner. I don't know what happens after that, but I'm hoping we come home! I like weddings, but this is a second, mid-life marriage of Bill's brother's son. Which is fine. But we've gone to so many events in this family's life, all requiring gifts - but apparently none requiring thank-you's. And yet they have come to nothing in our family except our wedding 25 yrs ago (where we requested no gifts), and they actually say our kids don't count because Bill isn't their bio-dad so therefore they aren't REAL family. Even though they were all still teens at home when he took us on and now they are all in their 40's. You see my gripe? The good part is we'll get to spend the afternoon with Bill's sister and her hubby - who are NOTHING like his brother and SIL. thank goodness.

Well, I got THAT off my chest. Maybe now I can be nice this afternoon. But probably not! lol!!! At least I'm not cooking! Are you?

Good morning from a very sunny and warm, SW. Pa...But, we have a very nice breeze and it's heavenly......A great day for sheets on the line and maybe washing windows, (you see I put maybe in there).....

Mary, Hey, I don't blame you for having a chuckle about our adventures...Around here if I didn't laugh, I would go a little more crazy...Yesterday Jim was determined to "go home" and it took everything I had to keep him in the house.....This morning, our oldest DS stopped down, only after I left a message on his machine yesterday....This DS doesn't want to accept the fact that Dad is not Dad any longer...
Jim was diagnosed 2 years ago in January but this last couple of months, it's really gotten more serious...And there again, no one can predict what will happen...You do what the doctors tell you to do and you take the meds and wonder if they do any good or what....But, as I've said, we muddle through and if it takes crawling through a window, so be it! I still count my blessings and there is many.....
And Mary, don't you wonder about some relatives???Thank goodness you'll have Bill's sister and DH"s company to enjoy...And hope the food is extra good.....

Jana, sure hope Michael gets some good news and relief today...Has to be hard on him and extra hard on you.....Adam12, haven't seen that in awhile...Jim does like to watch those old shows, will have to try to find that one.....Jim also loves westerns and his favorite is The Virginian, which we've watched over and over......

Well, other than the sheets and windows, I might try to clean off the back porch...This porch is the width of the house and at the one end, we have a little storage bin to keep stuff, that should be in the shed...SO, all this "stuff" might make it's way back to the shed, there again, the word is maybe......

And as for dinner, I'm thinking either Pizza Hut or Arby's...Never did get out to pick up the RX yesterday so later today, we're going for that ride...AND never did get that fresh corn so that might be on the agenda also.....Now to get moving...........

Happy eating..................

Hello ladies, another sticky hot one here. And the rest of the wk is to be a scorcher.
Maryz You could sure wear shorts here.I found a green piece that has a lavender tiny flower in it.Think it will be just the right color combo.I would think with all your quilt history you would choose colors in a flash.
Mary on the no thank yous I have just cut back due to a few of those. After making hand quilts & never hearing anything I just ceased sending them.

Irish I too cringed as I read about you & the ladder, but I am just like you.You do whatever whenever.Just to keep on trucking.Try to keep on laughing & you will do fine.If I didn't laugh I could be in sad shape.
I too don't get upset if it doesn't get done.I have to be very flexible.Hugs to you both.

Jana Sure hope Michael soon gets over with the tooth problem.Sure not any thing to laugh about.

It was a wild crazy morning here.Went to town early to avoid some of the crazies.Did have lots less people to deal with. But so many stops & waiting.Did finally get his rescue inhaler which he has been trying to get.A mix up between Dr & med company. His Meds are a real hassle to take care of.Sorry didn't mean to write a book.As Irish said I have much much to be thankful for & it sure out weighs the other.
It will be a ham tomato sandwich here with corn on cob.Ice cream for later.....Becca

MaryZ—how exciting to have Autumn’s jam made for her just in time for her to pick it up in person!!! What a fun visit for all! I covet your weather!!!

Irish—I was the same way when caring for my MIL… if I didn’t laugh, I’d go totally stark raving… Still, I had a few melt downs, and I’m sure you can relate. My mom used to take it all personally and get all upset by my aunt, and I had to talk her calm and tell her to laugh—and that the care people had seen it all and worse and they didn’t think it reflected on her (Mom). With MIL, a lot of the family was in total denial, too. I know you count the good days as your blessings! HUGS!!!

Becca and Irish--Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape!!!

We went to the county fair last night to see the GKs show their pigs. I went through the exhibit building to look at the needlework/quilting. Shock! There were only a couple of quilts, and you could only see a small part of them. There were several crocheted and knitted afghans, but very little else. It was a huge disappointment.

Becca—I totally understand about the meds after dealing with my late DH’s and my MILs. I think I could pass a pharmacy tech exam. I don’t make quilts for people I don’t think will appreciate them. My mom has sent quilts to my cousin’s granddaughter who specified colors and changed her mind mid-quilt, then she NEVER thanked Mom for them!!! I’m not sure my cousin even thanked her for sending them. I have no respect for my cousin (long story over many years). Mom is just too good.

Dinner tonight will be t-bone, corn on the cob and baked potato for DH. I’ll have grilled portabella mushrooms, artichoke and potato. The corn is past where I like it, but DH loves it “over-ripe”.

Enjoy!

Good afternoon!

Home from the dentist. I was right, a dry socket and they have now added another med to help it heal. The fillings were fixed and now it's wait time for the healing to start the implant process.

So dinner is still soft foods for a while longer. They kids are back from house sitting, so it's back to cooking again. Tonight they will be gone, so I will just scrounge the leftovers for me.

Mary - what fun to have Autumn home for a short time. She knew you were doing jam!

Well, my little ones are out of sight and quiet, you know what that means!

Enjoy,
Jana

Good Evening Everyone!
You are probably in bed, except for Maryz, as I write this note. Thank you all for your compliments on my menus. I did delay the Chicken Picatta until Monday, because DH took us out to dinner on Sunday. Tonight was leftovers and he volunteered to do the dishes! Guess I did train him a bit. lol

Today I went on a tour of Hoffman Fabrics. The company is 92 years old and the fabrics are all designed, not made, in California. I was very impressed by the factory in Bali which makes the batiks. It takes a lot of water to make batiks and they are the only company that cleans the water they use. I was impressed. Oh, by the way, they never sell seconds.

Maryz - I cleaned house and did laundry yesterday too. There are family and family, hope you enjoy your visit with Bill's sister. (Is she the quilter?) I think I hear BOING in your note regarding Autumn.

Chickie - Last year your GC entered the fair, did they do so again? I remember when you were caring for your MIL. You had quite a time!

Irish - You had quite the adventure yesterday. Glad you have a great sense of humor.

Becca - I was single until I was in my mid 40s, I like to cook and I like to eat good meals. My DH enjoys my cooking and has gotten a bit spoiled having good food. I am glad to cook for him.

Jana - Sorry to hear Michael is suffering from Dry Socket. Guess he will be taking it easy for a few days.

Take care everyone!
Carol
