SUPPER CLUB - Sat, May 14th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat May 14, 2016 4:21 am

Happy Saturday!

We are cooler today - upper 60's, I think, with rain possible. It's OK. I don't like any weather to hang on too long without a break - even nice weather.

JANA - your roosters will be great in your kitchen! It's hard to remember exactly how the windows and walls all go together. It's been what? 3 or 4 years since I was there? How great that Andrew is learning so much from you! Does he have a genuine interest in cooking, meaning is he looking at a possible career choice, or is this just to gain a few life skills and to earn his badge?

BECCA - we are all natural here! I prune very few bushes. And never the holly or azaleas. Occasionally I'll shape a rhodie up if it gets too spindly, but when I do there's few flowers on it the next year.

CHICKIE - that's a great idea about the burp cloths - to trim cloth diapers in flannel to match my quilt. I will keep it in mind. I always liked the pre-folded diapers, too, though I had both. Disposable diapers were just starting to happen when my first was born, but we just couldn't afford them. Besides, grammas would have frowned - using them was like using a mix to bake a cake! Cheating! lol!!

CAROL - I bet your countdown is exciting! When I finally decided to leave my job, I put in the paperwork, gave 3 weeks notice, and never worked again. My last few years were just on-call status. And they only called me once and I said I was unavailable. I liked the job, but the politics and some of the people were starting to make it a drudge. Sure don't miss that!

TINA - I know she has been busy with her parents, helping them look at property near Tina and Frankie. Plus she's getting over bronchitis.

This morning we have a short round of errands to run - grocery store, post office, Costco to return some shoes. And then I want to sort out a top shelf in my sewing room where I keep binders, boxes, magazine holders filled with patterns, books, etc. Things just get tossed up there and it's time to clean it up! Then decide what project to start on next.

As for supper - it will depend on what we find at the store to tempt us. and I might make hamburger buns again here at home. We'll see how ambitious I am. And if I do, then it will be burgers tonite since we ate the bacon and eggs last night.

Good morning!

Beautiful day here, nice and warm!

Mary - Andrew so far loves to cook and help out in the kitchen. I am doing with him, like I did with my 4 kids. I apprenticed each one in the kitchen every night, one at a time. When I knew they could do things on their own, we created kids night to cook. They picked the meal, cooked, served and cleaned up. This even included cooking a Thanksgiving turkey. So all can cook. It's lots of fun with the grands starting.

Don't know for sure dinner, but I think tacos will be it. With kids moving in, things will be in slight disarray.

Enjoy!

Tina Prayers for you & all your help with Dad & Mom.

Jana That's a great way to teach life skills because you never know when you may need them.Sure Andrew is appreciative.

Good afternoon! We are cool today here, too—only 62 for the high! We are still looking for rain. Last night we had a 12” rain—12 inches between the drops and only lasted about 12 seconds! What a tease!!!

Mary—I had all cloth diapers, too. The hospital sent home a couple of samples of Chix and Chux that were available before Pampers. They were pretty much only in emergencies and basically worthless. I had a washer but no dryer, so I had diapers on the line continually.

Carol—I, too, never looked back when I retired. I didn’t miss a thing about it. Best wishes!!! I have no idea how I got everything done when I was working, but I sure like being retired so much better! There’s always tomorrow, and every day is Saturday!

I had lunch with Mom today and our “Saturday visit.” Last week, she had me leave my new BLOCK magazine. Today she is still keeping it. She got out her scrap boxes and is cutting 2.5” squares and 2.5” x 5” bars. Her quilt will be beautiful! She’s going to use whites and off whites for the “solid” pieces in the bars and the 4-patches. I’m delighted she feels like working on something and thankful she is inspired once again.

Jana—my DD did almost all the week-night cooking from the time she was 12 or 13. DH even brought work guests from out of town and thought nothing of it. They all enjoyed a home-cooked dinner instead of restaurant fare while traveling. She’s an excellent cook. I think it’s in her genes. My grandma cooked for the junior college and high school as well as made pies and worked at a café. Her pies were famous, and the students loved her at the schools. My mom cooked for the state for over 30 years. DGD also enjoys cooking here. I have no idea why she doesn’t cook more at home.

Dinner here will probably be the other half of my grilled chicken spinach salad from lunch, steak and baked potato for DH and something green for him as well. I picked strawberries awhile ago, so they will be for afters.

Enjoy!
