SUPPER CLUB - Thurs, May 5th

Happy Cindo de Mayo!!

Who here will be eating Mexican food tonite? Let's see a show of keyboards! I was thinking of chicken on the grill, but think I'll table that we'll we'll go for tacos instead.

BECCA - I hope the house works out for Denise! Will they get it inspected before offering? It costs, but is often very worth while.

TINA - I didn't realize you were on vacation. It is a bummer to be sick, but not so much as being sick and trying to babysit! Take care of YOU first or you won't be able to take care of those you love. That's why airlines tell you to put your own oxygen mask on first.

IRISH - you really have been busy! I may have to take a nap after reading your post! lol! Funny, after decades of not seeing or thinking of those snowballs, we stopped at Brother Al's a few weeks ago coming home from Yakima and he gave me one! A white one. Said they never saw the pink ones anymore. Nicky is 17?? that's pretty old for a 12-yr-old!

JANA - my first hubby, Mike, used to coach the kids' baseball teams, starting with 1st grade girls. and he would tear his hear out as the ball bounced passed the "base-girls" while they were sitting down building sandcastles in the dirt around the base. So funny! You gave me a chuckle from the past! Thank you!

CAROL - thank you for not putting anchovies in your tampanade! lol! When my son worked at Little Caesar's Pizza and they had an order with anchovies, the workers did paper/scissors/rock to see who had to make that pizza - and then donned the anchovy gloves! lol! Hope your wrists are better today. Love your little bird!

CHICKIE - let's be clear - not big or thunder thighs, but muscular thighs. There is a difference, you know. A very important difference! I was laughing as soon as I read 'broccoli' in your supper report. I thought, "Has she met her husband??" and mine would agree with yours!!

Today I plan to nag Bill to get the cancer comfort quilt onto the frame. and then work on my may lotto blocks and then on some blocks for Tina for more cancer quilts - and pray they aren't needed! I think that will fill my day up. and making those tacos! With refried beans. We'll probably skip the Mexican rice. We can only eat so much!

Do you plan something special for tonite?

Ole`!

Good morning!

Cinco de Mayo - yes, we will do mexican - probably enchiladas. I love tamales, but I like them made with polenta. We could buy them in California, but the company that made them, went out of business. So now I will have to experiment with making my own. These were very large and not wrapped in a corn husk, all the filling would not fit.

In our family stories, you had to walk uphill, both ways to and from school! Oh yes, in a pouring down snow storm! LOL I loved to skate everywhere too. I once got a pair of used "shoe skkates", the ones that were all in one skate, from my cousin, after she was done. Loved that pair of skates. That cousin worked as a carhop on her skates.

Becca - hope the house comes through and, yes, do a home inspection, even if it is a brand new house!

Tina - hope you are continuing to get better. I will see what is in the Batt Csve for blocks.

Ethan just announced he is here - he rings my 8 note Westminster Chime door bell, more than once! LOL

Enjoy,
Jana

Good morning! DH was home early for brunch, then off to town for a doctor’s appointment and to work on the rental.

Jana—love the uphill both ways and 5 feet of snow stories! LOL!!! I had a pair of used shoe skates later. I took off the wooden wheels and put on skateboard wheels so I could skate in the street (I was almost 40 at that time). I loaned them to my niece and never got them back. I guess my sister sold them at a garage sale. I was quite miffed, as they were a loan. I’d rather skate than walk. When we first moved to the Joplin area, the Sonic there had carhops on skates. Kids love doorbells!!! Now you have me craving tamales again!!!

Mary—those thunder thighs are not so muscular any more… nothing is other than my jaws. You can take that both ways—eating and talking!

Crazy enough, DH really liked dinner last night… even the broccoli and mushrooms! I was pretty surprised. Of course, he had been working all day at the rental and was hungry enough to eat about anything.

Irish—I agree about Nicky being too young to be 17! My DGS is 17, and I wonder what happened.

Carol—I have orioles here… Baltimore. They raid the hummer feeders, and I have jelly feeders for them and an oriole nectar feeder, still they go for the hummers’ feeders, or try to. Yesterday I opened a can of tuna (saved the tuna, sorry Mary!) and nailed the can to the deck rail. I put jam in it, and it didn’t take long for the orioles to find it.

This morning I was awakened by a tap, tap, tap at the back door to the bathroom. After awhile, I decided I recognized that sound. Last year it was a blue bird pecking at its reflection. This morning it was a female oriole. I was watching her try to drive off the competition. Pretty soon, along came a flashy male and they flew off totether—wing tip to wing tip, diving and swirling… beautiful neon orange and black of the male and somewhat dusty yellow orange of the female. I’m also seeing more blue birds each day. Such fun!

Dinner tonight… some kind of tacos, refried beans and the leftover stuffed poblanos. Happy Cinco de Mayo!

I'm off to work on my blocks for Tina!

Yah Yah Denise got her house.Yes there are inspections of all kinds. They would never buy without that. There was a higher bid but the Lady liked them.God was at work. They had a friend they knew there that give them the tip about it selling .It sold the first day.
We saw pictures & it is a pretty house.Brick with a gorgeous yard.

I am excited for them. They have lived in parsonages their entire married life.First time to own other than the log house they bought here in our little town.

Yesterday was berry day here.Strawberries by the gallons.Promised Denise I will do some for her next wk.
Chickie I always wanted to skate & never learned how.We have a Sonic here that the kids skate out to your car to get order & bring it to you. That is great exercise. My DH finally eats brocolli.

Maryz I think it's amazing that Bill quilts for you.

Irish Hope Jim is doing better.Sure you are still having fun with friends.

Carole I love your wren.I too love birds & enjoy them.We had them build on our front porch in a flower pot & on the back porch light fixture 3 yrs in a row. They got so messy I told them one morning as I went to work that if they weren't gone when I got home I was running them off. They were gone when I came home. They were pooping on house & ground. But I do love to watch them.
Our fox came again last nite.He come a couple nites ago 2 nites in a row & nothing was there to eat.He ate the fruit I put out.

No Mexican food here.DH wants his bacon.I have some sweet n sour chicken in the freezer. Will add a salad & DH will eat his apple fritter I got him....Becca

Yes a little bit of Mexican for us. I am cooking for the family tonite. I found a Taco casserole. It has tator tots on the top.

first layer is ground meat mix with taco seasoning. Then a mix of egg, milk, and shredded cheese is blended in with the mix mixture. Pour in a pie plate sprayed with cooking spray. Top with tator tots and bake at 400 degree for about 35 - 40 min.

Top with your own favorite toppings such as sour cream, chopped tomatoes, etc.

We might fix a box of Spanish rice with it??? And then Texas Sheet Cake with vanilla ice cream. YUMMMMMM!

I brought the cake mix bake with me from Texas. I made it about a month ago and everyone loved it. It was sooooooo rich, so tonight we are going to add some vanilla ice cream. That will make it just right.

Happy Cinco de mayo to all
