SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, April 30th
Good morning!
Welcome to my 'little' sister's 64th birthday! she is 13 months younger than I and the baby of our sibling group of 6. The oldest is 81. (he's also the livliest, the smartest, the funnest, and the only one still working!)
IRISH - what kind of cards are you playing that you win such great prizes?? We love cards. I played pinochle when I was young but have forgotten most of the rules now. Friends tried to teach Roy (LDH#2) and I how to play once but they also taught us how they cheat! We never played with them again. As for Jim - our pediatrician told us once when the kids were very little to cook rice (not the quick kind) using double water. Drain it and give the kids the water. It's loaded with nutrition. Also, he said to drink liquid jello for protein. He said liquid because they got these things in their bottles. Other ideas I've read for healthy cooking is to add peanut butter, nuts, oats when you can, and if using fruit to use sweet fruits like pineapple, oranges, so you can use less sugar. and use brown sugar when you can or even honey or agave syrup. How's he feeling today?
TINA - how are you feeling today? And how's it all going with your folks? Did your dad have much reaction to his first shot? If he has nausea, there are some powerful anti-nausea meds they can give him if they weren't included in his shot.
CHICKIE - Scottie Rx is Interceptor, too. He eats EVERYTHING! and we suffer for it! Tell Doyal thanks for me! Funny about his little 'confrontation' at the post office! We had a similiar thing happen once when we ran into friends, Warren and Lois in a restaurant. We told the waiter we wanted that table where they were seated and he said, 'oh, no, you can't have that one'. I said, 'sure we can'! and went over to make a little scene. Warren played along and the poor waiter was appalled - until he saw we were all just kidding. But we did get to sit at that table! lol!
BECCA - oh, trying to get two little ones ready to go somewhere on-time, especially when you are uber-pg, almost can't be done! lol! I hope they all eventually got there and you had an awesome day with them! Smart to wait to 'meet' a baby. My DB, Jim and wife, planned to name their baby Corina. When they saw her, she just wasn't a Corina. After 3 days they finally realized she was Pam!!
JANA - you are lucky - no fleas. They aren't much problem here because we treat our rugs and furniture with boric acid powder (active ingredient in Flea Busters but about 10% the cost). And it lasts for years. But we still use flea/tick meds because everyone goes outside and we travel, too. So if you need a beam in your basement, why wasn't it put there when the house was built? We have two upright beams in our family room downstairs (split level house) and I HATE them. They really interrupt the "feng shui" in that room as well as the furniture arrangement. But if we didn't have them, the house would fall down, I'm told. and some days that might not be a bad thing. . .
MARY Q and SUE will be here this afternoon. Sue's hubby, Kenn, is coming, too, so Bill will have someone to play with as well. My plan is to have hamburgers on the grill, jo-jo's and maybe some beans for supper. Though Sue is bringing pork chops for one night and I'm not sure if they will need to be cooked the first night. If not, then it will be the burgers while my homemade buns are fresh. Tomorrow - we will be off, hitting thrift and quilt shops! Dont' know what the men will do. Don't care. We dont' have a Hooters in town so they can't get into too much trouble. that's OUR job!
If you don't hear from me for a few days, just send money c/o Pierce County Jail!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, April 30th
Good morning everyone.
Maryz You are too funny.Know that you have a great time planned for the girls.Enjoy & think of all of us.lol
My DGD & her DH said they wanted to meet the baby & see how the names fit.Just like your DB did.Talked to her last nite & she is ready.11 days to go.
DGD did get here & we had a blast with Tallulah & Sawyer. They wanted to go to the creek.I thought of you Maryz. After their fun there we came back & they got involved with play dough. And books. Both love books & I love reading to them.Great time.
Then late in day Levi & his friend come by.I had a banana pudding waiting. They wolfed it down so fast . I told them it took me a lot longer to make it than that.Of course it made me smile to see them enjoy it.
Irish Do hope Jim is doing better. My solution is always cooked potatoes or chicken soup if they won't eat.And jello.Or fruit ,much the same as Maryz said.
You really hit the jack pot.Lots of my kitchen things need to be toosed.May just get on that next wk.
Jana I too wondered why your beam was a problem.Sounds like it shouldn't have passed inspection for the building code.Or someone was crooked in the process.Glad it is getting fixed right.
Tina Do hope you have a better day.
Chickie Hope you & the hooligans are getting your walks in & outings in the truck.
Carole Enjoy your day.Been missing you at the table.
Lady Carol Do hope your weather is getting better.
Have ribs in the oven BBQing. Will add a salad & baked potato. Becca

Good morning,
The beam problem - the house blue print drawings do not call for a beam. The span is supposed to be 18 feet. Maximum length for the I-beams they used for the floor joists. Now the problem - the builder made the span at 18 ft 7 inches - too long for the span to carry the weight of the upstairs. So we are now adding a support beam to break up the span to around 9 feet each side - bringing it into code. We tried to get a civil engineer out here to look at it, but they refused as they didn't want to testify in a lawsuit. Seems as if the builders here run everything. So it will cost us about 4000 to fix it, not as bad as we had expected.
Mary - it is the very center section of the basement, if you remember my basement. My sewing is all out of the way, just the railroad section is affected.
We wonder how the city inspector missed it as well, they are very good here in Herriman.
Get it fixed and get on with our lives!
Dinner - I set out some chicken, so we will see later what I do with it.
Enjoy,
Jana
Money orders in hand for bail!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, April 30th
Good late morning from a very sunny and getting a little warmer...It is warm enough to hang the sheets outside, which is a blessing...And probably warm enough to be outside doing "stuff" but the inside "stuff" needs done 1st....
Mary, I can feel the excitement in your post...So much fun this weekend.....And very good advice on getting Jim to eat...I really do love to cook but have come to the conclusion, just watch what I make...He would live on mashed or baked potatoes so he'll get spuds often, just not every meal, lol...He does like peanut butter, so snack on crackers and peanut butter..(I'm all for snacks) Not much of a fruit eater but with me (almost forcing it down, he'll eat it...It really is almost like having a little one in the house, at meal times....But, as I said, he loves his Ensure.....
When I go to card parties, we play 500 Bid, been playing it for at least 50 years...And the basket I won was on the Chinese Auction table...I really was aiming for the wine basket but this was next best, lol.....Lots of goodies...
Oh and Mary, what is the zip for that jail????
Becca, I love to read your posts, always makes me smile...I have vision of you surrounded by your little ones, trying to sit on your lap or taking a walk....Aren't we blessed to have those grands?
Jana, thank goodness you're getting the beam done...Wow, really could have been a disaster...It is terrible the way some builders do take short cuts...But, as you said, get it done and move on.....Just so you're safe....
I talked to Kathy last night and she's getting ready for a 2 week vacation...They're flying into Florida, taking a cruise and then coming back to Disney and meeting up with her kids...Her DH has never been to Florida so she's so excited to show him around..And her kids are looking forward to showing him Disney...One of the best feelings in the world is knowing your kids are happy and I've never heard Kathy happier...
Well, as I said, the sheets are outside drying and I'm inside trying to do some uglies...Yesterday, the house looked pretty good but who ever came in during the night really made a mess...I have a feeling, the fur kids were entertaining again....And of course they're sound asleep now.....
As far as dinner, really not sure yet but could be something with chicken...I haven't made chicken ala king for awhile and Jim does like that.....
Happy eating.............

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, April 30th
Good afternoon! Mary—wish we were all going to join you three!!! I know you will be rockin’ and rollin’ before long!!! I might have to pawn one of my Hooligans to raise bail money…
Irish—my DH isn’t one to eat many vegetables or fruits… unless they are in carrot cake, zucchini cookies, or pies—cherry and apple preferred! I try to “hide” veggies in chili and soups. Funny thing is, his cholesterol levels are better than mine! I think mine were 267 last time, but my “GOOD” cholesterol is better than his. I think his triglycerides are even better than mine. Crazy!!! I used to use “rice water” for nourishment for DD when she had serious bouts of the runs. I used it for my calves with “scours”, too. I swear by it. Mom used to make “liquid” jell=o for us when we were sick. It was such a treat to get to drink the warm “love”. It still brings back memories of measles and other kid ailments and warm jell-o whenever I make it. I always have to have a few sips! For my late DH, he needed more calories and nourishment, so I made milkshakes with ice cream and his Ensure or Boost. I heard on NPR about someone who ate nothin’ but spuds for a year. I think he was from Australia. He lost weight, but it was an only somewhat healthy diet… still better than a lot of things!
I can tell when you talk of her that Kathy is super happy now. Doesn’t that make you feel good!
Jana—sounds like the builders have the engineers in their pockets. I had a house built, and the inspector was sick so it didn’t get all the inspections it should have. BAD DEAL!!! Cost me through the nose later, too. Glad you found it before the floors sagged, and that you didn’t have to put a support post right where your LA sits!
Becca—sometimes you just know what a baby’s name is supposed to be… after they arrive! I loved reading to my little ones! DGD is 13, and we take turns reading Nancy Drew to each other. I love it yet!!!
Mom was moving pretty slow this morning and wanted to go back to bed, so I didn’t have lunch with her. I went on to the grocery store and picked up some fried chicken, chips and sliced apples; then I went to the rental where DH was working, and we had a picnic. Oh, he ate one apple slice, but he wasn’t too full to have the tiny little cherry pie I brought along. What was I saying earlier—fruit belongs in pies. He said the apples should be in pies, too. Sigh! Maybe they will end up in a crumble for supper. I can at least put oatmeal and pecans on top instead of crust on bottom and top and hope it’s a little healthier.
Dinner tonight… When I returned from town, I put together some stuffed poblano peppers and stuck them in the crock pot. Hope they are ready for dinner. (There are some sneaky veggies in them!) I’ll make a salad and call it good… guacamole for me with my salad.
Enjoy!
