SUPPER CLUB - Fri, Jan 22nd

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Jan 22, 2016 2:33 am

Good Morning!

I hope everyone here escapes the big storm without incident. Here, we have 50+ degrees and rain. Lots of rain. Ducks are happily swimming on our back lawn.

DH is going to put my Thanksgiving quilt on the frame today! Yay! It's only 64x68 inches and I'm going to do the 6" borders myself to give them special, freehand, treatment. He only does computerized quilting. But it should go very quickly. When this is done, we can start setting up beds for my sisters' visits. I'm getting bedding washed and rounding up pillows today.

IRISH - will you be in this storm? The national news map that we saw looked like you were not in the center of it but that it wasn't going to overlook you either. Hope you've got enough cookies stock-piled to keep your native from getting restless.

JANA - have you got that baby quilt all planned yet? Is it just the quilt or will you be making an entire set of matching things this time? Have you decided on fabric and a pattern yet? When I made a quilt last year for my great-niece, it was monkeys. She loves monkeys but I hate apes of all kinds. Ugh! I had to sew with that fabric.

CHICKIE - Is your pond frozen over? And I'm trying to remember - is there a barn for Timi and friends to keep warm? Maybe you need to make them all quilts. A good cow-mom would do that, you know . . .

BECCA - no shoveling!! Good mantra. It will all melt soon enough, whether you shovel or not. I was looking at the map. As the crow flies, we are about 45 miles from your DGS but it takes at least a good hour or more to drive to Hoodsport from here. We rarely get snow and they always get it. And we are both at sea level, basically.

TINA - I hope your dad is feeling better this morning. The after-effects of anesthesia can really take the stuffing out of you!

Supper. It's why we're all here, I know. And I got nothin'. We have a meatloaf, leftover enchiladas, pork chops, and bean soup in the freezer. We could have any of those. We'll see what Bill would like. But talk of that tamale pie is kind of getting to me . . . .

Yummm .....

Good morning from dreary, overcast, cold, looking like snow, Sw. Pa....Yep, I think it's going to snow, some time today.....

Mary, not to worry in the cookie or goodie department...That's one thing that never runs "dry" in this house and there's always graham crackers...Kevin's wife, Cindy, shops at Sam's Club and keeps us stocked up with the graham crackers...Not unusual to get a case for your birthday, lol....

Becca, hopefully the storm will make a short visit in your area and be gone...AND for sure, no shoveling! Just sit back with your fabric and relax and of course stay warm.....

Chickie, Now I have a vision of your cows each with their own colorful quilt...You'd better get busy!

Tina, your Dad was up and walking pretty quick wasn't he? I just can't imagine, having something replaced or fixed and then being up...I'd really be a whinny....

Well, besides the pending snow storm, our oldest DS and his DS are here and they are digging up the basement...We had plumbing problems earlier and this project was put on the list but then over the weekend, the main bathroom potty started leaking so now we have a major project happening....Getting a new bathroom downstairs and a new seal upstairs...The fur kids are not amused, quite upset to be awakened before 9:00....On the other hand, I'm going to be like the rats leaving a sinking ship, I'm meeting the gals for a late breakfast/early lunch (before snow)...

As for our dinner, the meat pot pie was pretty good (no one got sick) so we'll do it again tonight...Tomorrow will be new food.....

Happy eating...........

Stay warm and please stay safe...............

Good morning!
I was over in Sew In and had trouble posting… kept getting a “cannot post same thing twice” which was strange since I hadn’t gotten it posted the first time. Sigh!

I hope everyone is safe! We are totally out of the storm’s path… clear, cold and windy. I love the SUN!!! Until I looked at the wind chill, it was going to be a beautiful day to walk the dogs down to see Ava. There is incentive… Meagan left cheesecake in their fridge for DH and me. YUM!!! Will walk for food!!!

Congratulations, Mary on getting the T-day quilt on the quilter! Great job!!!

Yes, our pond is frozen, and there is shelter if the cows wanted to use it. They seem to not mind being out in the wind, but the shelter in the trees, barn, and behind sheds. There is a spring for water, so we don’t have to chop ice often. It’s 20 today, so not too bad… until you factor in the wind… then it’s either +6 or -6… either is out of my happy zone—even with SUN!

If I made cow quilts… you can bet DH would have me put someplace where they would take needles, rotary cutters and scissors away from me!!! …Even if it meant he would give up his chief cook and bottle washer!!!

Graham crackers would be perfect food for power outage! I love it, Irish! Cindy has my priorities… that and TP! When I’m cold, I always need more of that! (TMI!) You just keep imagining those colorful cow quilts, but don’t tell anyone… you might have to join me in the “safe place”! Why is it that plumbing problems never happen in 70 degree weather, but always in dead of winter??? Been there (more than once)!!!

Dinner tonight… the chicken-fried leftovers and cheesecake! We had soup (me), burger (DH) last evening.

Enjoy!

Good morning,

Last night everyone decided to visit, a few at a time. First was Ethan, he left and my niece crossed the court, then Matt and Crenda showed up with theirs in tow. Matt wanted to see Mythbusters about the train car implosion. So soup last night ended up burgers and fries.

Matt got rid of all TV, they just have Netflix, so we DVR Mythbusters for him. Watching the show with two engineers is very interesting.

My niece just got the diagnosis of celiacs. Her sister has it and now Sandee does. She was rather down, she is like my Sarah and loves to cook and create new dishes to eat. So we will be helping out. Added on top, Sandee is allergic to all nuts and several other food allergies. Most of the gluten free uses nut products as a substitute, so it is good she scratch cooks. It's fun to see how I started her cooking when she was little and now how far she surpasses me!

So dinner tonight, I pinky swore to Michael, will be his tortilla soup.

Chickie - saw a item on the news and immediately thought of you - they are now packaging siracha sauce in single serve packets. Now you don't have to lug your bottle around!

Irish - oh the problems that arise with remodeling. We loving call it the toilet seat syndrome. Once we gave our grandpa a padded toilet seat, so before he would change out the old one, he had to paint, then the floor looked bad and it had to be changed, then the shower curtain and the window curtain - you see where it went! Glad the boys are there to help. Graham crackers and chocolate frosting was a real treat in our house. My kids still love it!

Mary - as usual you made quick work of that new quilt. Yes, I did figure out Baden's quilt. I am being very subtle - you see, his name comes from the originator of the Boy Scouts, Lord Baden Powell, so being that Matt is a Eagle Scout and loves camping, I am doing a log cabin, set in the sunshine and shadows layout, in greens for the light side, blues on the dark side. I will use yellow in the center. He will share a room with Emma for awhile and it is yellow. Baden's side is in blues and greens. I didn't know that, until I decided on the colors! So it won't take me long. I have already done several receiving blankets ahd crib sheets. So will do the quilt and diaper bag for him. Se what happens when you ask! LOL

Enjoy,
Jana

Irish, I really think they over did him that first day, he's been in horrible pain since then. They pain meds are making him sick to his tummy so they give him more meds to counter that but he's not eating very much. Our DS, Kevin told him today he needs to eat something right before taking the pain pills so it doesn't upset his tummy, he asked the nurse if that would help and she said yes so he whipped the lid off his food and started eating it before he took the pill. Kevin has been with them this whole time but he has to go back to work tomorrow so my younger brother will be staying with Mom in her motor home at night and then back and forth on his lunch hour and when he has a free moment in the evening till bedtime, he lives there. They are moving Dad to a nursing home/rehab place tomorrow. We're going over tomorrow and check it out and visit for awhile, they want me to go stay but I really can't and it makes me feel bad. They won't let Dad get in the motor home Mary, they told him today. They were actually going to send him home until Kevin and Jamie (my younger brother) spoke up and said she could no way take care of him and the home health didn't even show up for her time before last the 2x per week and when they do show up it takes them 2 weeks to get everything set up.
We're having leftovers for supper.
Tina
