SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, Jan 10th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Jan 10, 2016 4:01 am

Good Morning, y'all!

Well?? Do we have any millionaires in our crowd this morning? Don't you think having all that money suddenly would be a big headache? Though it would be nice to be able to afford a big jar of aspirin for that headache!

It's my baby's birthday today! Autumn is 39. I wish I was there with her. But I'll talk to her later today. And she said she put the package I sent her on the table, waiting for this morning to open. I hope she has a nice birthday. Next year, her big 4-0, I plan to be there!

CHICKIE - our bottom of the barrel meal is usually either poached eggs or pasta with olive oil, garlic, and whatever else I can find to add in - veggies, olives, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc. It's never the same twice. I never think of using rice in place of the pasta, but that would be good, too!

TINA - that's how my mom got her job, too. She was volunteering in the library of my school and after a few years, she 'suggested' they start paying her. and they did! $2.75/hr, if I remember correctly. Full time. It beat driving the 30-mile round trip to school twice a day and paying bridge toll 4 times a day to drop us off and then pick us up again! And it was fun having her at school. Everyone loved my Mom!

IRISH - Is there a campground or RV park near you? You never now who might stop by some day . . . Did you watch your Steelers game last night? We did. Man, what a game! I ended up rooting for the Steelers at the end, and they took it with a field goal in the last few seconds of the game. I'm not too experienced at football yet, but so far I've never seen a game when the announcers have said, in flabbergasted tones, "Now what's going on???" TWICE! lol! And then there was that one TD where the player caught the ball and as he was rolling through the end zone, was handling the ball around his back and under and between his legs like a Harlem Globetrotter doing tricks!

CAROL - wait a minute! Didn't you already have banned food this week?? Did you get the part about 'BANNED'?? You are making me shudder here!

BECCA - my friend, Lois, used to make her sauerkraut and sort of gave me her recipe. That meant through the meal we were having at their house one time, she would call out things she added to it as she thought of them, and I tried to remember it all until we got home and I could write it all down. Small wonder mine never tastes like hers! But I like to add diced potato to cut the tartness and a bit of shredded carrot for color. Lois also added a splash of white wine while it was cooking.

Today my Seahawks are playing Mary Q's Vikings in the playoffs. And it will be COLD. What a showdown this will be! We'll be out to breakfast with my DB and SIL but will hurry home to get the game on by 10:00am. I'll be in front of the TV if you need me!

Happily, we have enough chicken cacciatore left over for tonite's supper. I actually got a comment from my DH on it, so it must have been pretty good.

I hope your supper tonite is pretty good, too!

Go, HAWKS!!

Mary, that's why I started volunteering, I drove the kids into school and then brought them home, it was easier to stay at the school and help out plus I really enjoyed doing it :o)
We ended up with sausage, sauerkraut and peas last night. Tonight I think it will be those hamburger steaks and gravy and probably do Frankie fried potatoes and we'll have salad.

Good morning,

Mary - happy birthday to Autumn! I hope that Maryq's team does a good job today.

Tina - I was lucky enough for most of my kids school years that they rode the bus. It was abit of a drive from our house to school.

Dinner tonight is being cooked by my kids. They are bringing it out here and then cake and ice cream for Emma's BD, which really isn't until the thirteenth. Tomorrow is Stu's BD, he turns 19.

Enjoy,
Jana

Good morning! We were COLD here, but nothing like MaryQ and Lea… I couldn’t get out of bed until spring if I lived up there. I didn’t want to get out of bed here. Our wind chill was -7, and temperature was 7+. That’s still way too cool for me!

Dinner last evening was delicious! I’m not a beef eater, but the beef tips at this place are melt-in-my-mouth tender, juicy and delicious. I have half a potato and some beef tips for my dinner. DH didn’t eat all of his chicken-fried steak, so I’ll fix salads to go with the leftovers and avoid “real” cooking tonight.

The rice was some I had left in the refrigerator and worked great in the fried rice dish—another left-over consumed. I think fried rice works best with cold rice.

Happy birthday to Autumn! She’s just a baby!!! Mine will be 49 this year! Wherever did the time go there???

Jana—sorry you didn’t buy a ticket, but then you’d just have to pay taxes… I wouldn’t want all the “new” relatives associated with a win. I think it’s more headaches than benefits. Most people go through huge jackpots in no time at all with generally a trail of unhappiness and greed.

Tina—I always worked when DD was in school, but I was still room mother in her grade school. I liked to be able to “keep track” of everything. DH’s late wife always volunteered in the lunchroom with their kids and even grandkids. Fortunately, she was able to do that, and the kids loved her.

I’m doing laundry, plan to sew, sweep floors (the cold freezes the mud for now!), and stay warm… if I can! I think the KC Chiefs might have won last night… So… today is the battle of the Marys’ teams… MaryZ and MaryQ… let the scraps fly and fall where they may!!! Did I hear there is a big wager involved here?

Jana, LOL the bus would've picked them up right in front of our house but I wasn't ready for them to ride the bus in grade school :-)
Happy birthday to Aut! I hope she has the best day ever and that this year is her year!

Good afternoon from a dreary, damp, cold SW. Pa...But, we're not nearly as cold as in Minnesota...Holy Moly, how do those people survive????We do have a neighbor that was raised out there and he runs around in a Tshirt and no coat, all winter......

Mary, A big Happy Birthday to Autumn with lots of prayers for a very good year...Oh my, she still is a baby...
I did end up watching the game..I wasn't going to, had been watching the Penguin hockey and then Kathy called and she was watching it...So, while I talked to her, I had it on the computer and I kept saying, that young kicker was going to win the game...But, wasn't that a "disgrace" of a game, those players and fans should be ashamed...I am glad they won, just because of the young kicker.....
I was watching "your" game and it was making me too cold and I had to get a cup of tea....Quite a game!
And I'm sure we could find a camp site for you and if not, we could make one.....You know we have a wedding the 1st of October and I'm sure we can find a place for you to park your camper in Carlisle, it's near Hearshey...After the wedding, you can head to Texas....

Love reading about all you gals helping at school...When our kids started, we had the neighborhood schools and they were able to walk, even come home for lunch..In fact, this is the same school Jim went to for 8 years and my older 2 even had 2 of the same teachers their dad had...But, I was the home room mom and also helped in the Library and then when the kids went on and actually had to ride a bus (which picked them up at the door), I ended up working in the school cafeteria and they even paid me...After many years, all the neighborhood schools were done away with and there ended my cafeteria days...But, it was fun, loved every minute of it....

Becca, I've never had home made sauerkraut but my Kathy keeps promising me some...They made it last year and said, there is no way she'd ever go back to canned....Our Kevin's wife, adds an apple or 2 when she making her's but I just throw it in the pot and let er oook....One of Jim's favorite meals, hot dogs with sauerkraut....

Chickie, I agree, WAY TOO COLD! But, then I think anything under 75 is chilly.....And as I just looked out the window, those white things are flying through the air....Geesh, you'd think this was winter.....

We went to early Mass and then on to breakfast and had so much fun...And since we've gotten home, haven't done a darn thing but read the paper and fall asleep....

Haven't really thought too much about dinner so it could be a scrambler or something just as easy.....This is my day of rest, lol....

You all have a great day, stay warm, stay safe

Happy eating..............

Hello ,late today but company just left.DSs DDIL,& DGS.Had a great day together.Plus we watched Maryzs & Maryqs teams.Wow that was a close one.Who could stand the cold? I couldn't take that.

All the school talk.I was grade mother always for all mine. When you could take what you baked. And I volunteered for my DGrands too.Used to teach also in pre K & I subbed too K - 6. I preferred the younger ones.DD taught K,2nd & 5th.And reading specialist & AG. Our DGD is a reading specialist too.

Maryz Making homemade sauerkraut is not hard at all.Just grate the cabbage & add the salt.It is better than store bought.
I like it every once Ina while.

Today was homemade chicken n dumplings, sweet potato soufflé,cranberry sauce, peas, brocolli & cauliflower mix , & Carmel cake.DS said that was like hitting the jack pot.He loves all of them but the brocolli. We had a great day together.DDIL is a real sweetheart. They also bought us tons of goodies. Our children feed us well.lol. becca
Bhappy Birthday to Autumn
