SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, Jan 9th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Jan 09, 2016 3:33 am

Good Morning, everyone!

TINA - so happy your son's ordeal is all settled. You may not be exactly happy with how it all turned out but it could have been so much worse. I hope you never have to go anything like this again. I never realized you used to teach school!

BECCA - so was it chili or soup last night?

CAROL 7 - so you are a teacher, too? Is it always elementary? Just first graders? The little ones are SOOO cute!

JANA - that's a lot of snow! And a lot of nice neighbors!

IRISH - You have been to way more funerals than any one person should have to attend. I feel bad for your nephew's wife having to make such a decision. Hugs to you all from here!! And I think I have a recipe for those Swedish potatoes you mentioned. Because our friend, Lois, was Swedish and we had them over for supper a lot. But I never heard them called Hasselback potatoes.

DH really liked his supper last night - hamburger patty with gravy, salad, and baked sweet potato. Too bad there were no leftovers. So, I think tonite I'll make some chicken cacciatore. I also have some elderly broccoli in the fridge. I wonder what kind of shape it's in . . .

Supper plans?

Thank you Mary, we hope and pray that too. Yep I was a substitute teacher, before that I was a volunteer for at least 5 years, only I didn't just volunteer for a couple hours here and there, I was there from 8am to 4pm, mostly in Kindergarten :-) the principal pulled me aside one day and asked me to go take the substitute test so he could start paying me, LOL so I did, I might go back to doing that :-) I really liked it or I might be a classroom Grandma, less hours so I can still sew!
Gosh Mary your supper from last night sure sounds yummy and I was thinking about that the other night so hopefully that will be our supper tonight :-)

Good afternoon from a chilly but very sunny, SW. Pa....It looks more like a spring day than January 9th....I know some of my plants and shrubs are very confused......

Mary, I agree about the funerals and don't wish to go to any more for a long while....Making that decision to disconnect has to be the most heart breaking choice you'd have to make...I remember when Kathy had to decide with Chris and their son, Andy, said, can't we wait, just another day? He too was hoping for a miracle....But, you know deep in your heart, it's the right thing to do, you don't want them to suffer any longer.....

Tina, I had a feeling you were a teacher and a darn good one...Having the patience that you have, your students would be very lucky...Just look how you are with your little ones...
I think it's neat that you live close to where Mary camps...Wish it were closer to me....
And her supper really did sound good.....

We just got home from the funeral and I was hoping when we got back, the "uglies fairy" had visited and we'd walk into a clean house...BUT, no such luck....So, laundry has piled up and the dust bunnies are running amok, so you all know what I'm going to be doing most of the day......

For our dinner, we're going to have, another box dinner....This one is called, Juicy Lucy Burgers with Frizzled onions and Romaine Walnut salad....Kathy said, these are really good......Directions look easy and I am anxious to try it......Will let you know.........

Happy eating...................

Good Morning Everyone!
Maryz & Tina- Yes, I am a substitute teacher. I substitute in grades k-5, although I also do TK, that's transitional kindergarten. I enjoy it. I like teaching and the younger they are the more the teacher allows the substitute to actually teach. Some of the older grades the teacher is just in the room for legal purposes and the kids are doing their own thing. Teachers are very different though and I do substitute in upper grades where I get to teach. I love that I get to teach! The noise in the classrooms these days wears on me and I come home very tired. This is my last year. There are 99 days left of the school year, the last day of school is June 9th.

Irish - I cannot imagine having to make the decision to pull the plug. I held my Mom's hand the last day she was alive and the memory haunts me. I just remember how cold she was every time I think of it.

Last night we had pizza. I am not sure about tonight, but I still think I need to use up those potatoes. So it will be the banned food to go with it I think.
Have a great day everyone!
Carol

Hello everyone,Cloudy & gray here with an occasional shower.

Irish Know you are weary .That is a rough decision to make.DH had to decide on his Mother but she had no quality of life & would be tied to bed.Her mind was gone too so that is different but not easy.Prayers for all of your family.

Tina So happy DS can move forward.Prayers that he can have. Better times ahead.

Jana DH left his tea out the other nite.He set it out to cool down.Thought of it at 11:30 but left it out all nite.We use our porch for a refrig too.

Maryz We choose chili & today will be sauerkraut & turkey sausage. With pickled beets.

Good afternoon! I was posting from my phone this morning, and I see it didn't post. As I sat in my truck waiting for my friend to meet me for coffee, I checked in here... Last evening I really seemed to hit bottom for cooking. Mother Hubbard's cupboard/refrigerator was lacking. I ended up making fried rice with whatever I could find. Actually, it turned out really well. Although DH didn't care for the soy sauce in it, he did eat every grain of rice smidgen of veggie. Don't laugh, but the meat was diced Ball Park franks instead of ham or chicken. Like I said... bottom of the findings.

Since then, I've been to the grocery store and stocked up on fresh items. I was starving (I thought) when I came home and made a couple of jalapeño poppers for a snack. I used some of my fresh peppers, cream cheese and bacon bits.

No cooking tonight!!! Happy dance!!! We are meeting friends for dinner to celebrate her birthday. I made her a quick candle mat yesterday afternoon and picked up a candle jar in town today.

Happy eating!!!
