SUPPER CLUB - Sat, Dec 26th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Dec 26, 2015 3:40 am

Happy Day After, y'all!!

We had a nice Christmas and only a few leftover veggies that we brought back from my brothers yesterday. So today will be mostly new food!

BECCA - pizza for Christmas sounds alright to me - as long as the turkey comes today! have a wonderful time with your family.

CHICKIE - you sound pretty organized! Where did you seat everyone?? you must have a leaf for that little table. When my mom was still hosting holidays, she always had her meal at 1pm so we could go to Mike's mom's for another feast at 5pm. It worked well!

TINA - after cooking for your crowd for two days, I'm surprised you had the stamina to log on to our little group! I hope you used paper plates! and get in a nap today!

JANA - I bet you were all so happy to visit with Stu yesterday. Our family friend, the food artist, helped my SIL with her prime rib. She pronounced it "camera-ready" when it came out of the oven! lol! and it was very purrfect. I bet YOU would have loved it!

LADY CAROL! - we've missed you!! Hope all has been OK in your neck of the world! Happy Boxing Day!

CAROL 7 - you really worked out your menus purrfectly! No cooking for you tonight!

Today, I think there will be a few uglies at our house but the big focus will be out at the woodshed where we have about 1-1/2 cords of wood to split and stack. Thank goodness, says Bill, we have my brother's wood splitter. I wanted to borrow his wood stacker, too, but she wouldn't come. So that's what I'll be doing today - unless it rains hard.

Now for supper - I STILL haven't made Carol's pork chop dinner, but tonite's the night! I have the chops thawed already. I might even put it into the crockpot this morning so I won't have to do anything after working hard outside all afternoon.

I know after these big dinners we've been having it's hard to think FOOD - however - What's for dinner??

Good morning,

Mary - you are quite right! It was great to talk with Stu. Hard on Ethan, he wants his brother home, but still talked Stu's ear off. When my boys served, one in Costa Rica and the other Jacksonville Florida, they were to far away to get in the car to go see. But Riverside is not! Michael keeps me good! LOL

Dinner here is new food too. I got a new Pioneer Woman cookbook, so will play with some of her recipes. I also got another cookbook, Surprise Inside Cakes. The fancy decoration is hidden in the cake and revealed when you cut and serve. A rainbow heart, bunny face, reindeer face, all kinds of fun things. I want to play with the cakes for all the BD's we have here.

Enjoy!
Jana

Good morning/afternoon from warm but slightly dreary, Sw. Pa....Warm by our standards is anything over 40 at this time of the year and it's well over 40....
We have grand kids visiting next door from out of state and they are all out on their new bikes...

Hoping everyone had a great day yesterday and it continues until next year at this time.....

Mary, I'd be praying for a very hard rain...That pile of wood sounds like hard work....

Lady Carol, so happy to hear from you and sure hope you'll be back soon....We love, love your posts.....

Our day was jam packed with early Mass and then brunch...I have decided, I need a bigger living room....With all the kids, huge mounds of gifts and that giant pile of wrapping paper, didn't leave much room for moving around, lol.....I was afraid we might loose a cat or 1 of the kids in the mess......
After everyone cleared out, Jim and I went to Kevin's and had Christmas all over again...Terry and the boys joined us, ate again and by the time I got home almost needed a crane to haul me out of the car....And of course came home with a trunk full...Just thinking, we must have been good last year, lol....
Talked to Kathy and she was enjoying her day off from the PO...Said it was very cold out there but it was a good day...Only thing better would have been to have had her and Tim here for Christmas, but that will happen 1 day...She did say, Tim's kids don't exchange gifts and he was in awe of her choosing each gift to send to the kids and Jim and I and the packages they both received from back here...She told him, just wait until you have that Pa. Christmas experience, never forget it....

Not much happening in this lazy household today, although Terry and the boys left to go to IKEA and then to Pgh.s South Side...So, just Jim, the cats, dog and me and I have a feeling it will be nap time soon...The only thing I've done was to rearrange the kitchen counter...Kathy got me a Keurig and it's been tough finding a home in my small kitchen...I told the boys, I'd have it in several places before I decided for sure.....

As for dinner, the fridge is full....We have ham, lasagna, macaroni salad and cookies like you wouldn't believe, which we all know makes someone very happy......So, it will be buffet time later today.....

Happy eating................

Good Morning!
We had a nice day here yesterday, we went to early Mass, opened gifts, went to breakfast next door, took a nap, read, listened to music and just relaxed. I tried a new way to bake potatoes from "Cook's Illustrated". It took me a while, but the potatoes were delicious!

Maryz - Yes, planned meals are good for the holidays!

Irish - Your Christmas sounds fabulous! Did you hear the snowpack in the Sierra's is at 110% and Lake Tahoe water level rose 2" in the past week? Great news!!

Jana - Poor Ethan! Time doesn't mean much to a four year old.

I did go to Target this morning and picked up some bows and tissue for wrapping. We were in and out of the store with no street traffic either. DH made a trip to Home Depot for a door closer for the screen door and has already installed it. I am off to the gym. DH has some other errands, after gym I will sew. I do have a load of laundry in the washing machine and will change the bed, but no other uglies.

Have a wonderful day everyone!
Carol

Good afternoon! I survived yesterday... wiped out!!! We had three 8' tables in here in addition to our regular table. I never did get a good count. No one went away hungry... that I know of! It was a lot of fun. I got most everything cleaned up last night, then did the rest this morning. Now I'm waiting for my DD and family. They will be having leftovers, but they don't mind!

We are getting rain--looks like it will settle in. I can do without that! Oh well, tomorrow I'll get started on my International Sunbonnet Sue blocks--with a break to go to DH's co-worker's visitation. So sad to lose her at this time of year!

Mary--this is the first time I've had dinner here this late, but I like that it gave me all day to cook and get ready. MIL always had hers at 12:00 sharp... as was pointed out to me one year by SIL when I had it at 1:00. No one seemed to mind the later time.

Carol--I may have to look up how you do your potatoes although the microwave is just so quick and handy. I'm so lazy for the two of us!

Jana--have fun with your new cookbook! My niece knows her from when she lived in that area.

Irish--I really like my Keurig. My old one quit on me this summer, and I ordered another one... heavy-duty! It definitely takes up more room than a regular coffee maker, but I sure like the fresh cup each time.

Dinner here... with DD and family this afternoon. I'm looking forward to enjoying it more than I did yesterday with the big crowd. Enjoy!

I'm sliding into my chair now :-) We did and still are using paper plates but still had to run the dishwasher twice yesterday and over a sink full of pots and pans and that's after I kept everything washed up until the last few minutes while everything was being set on the table. I'm beat! We're having leftovers tonight for sure. Everyone has gone home, just waiting to hear from Kevin that he's home safely, it's SNOWING here! I love the snow but not for them to be driving in.
