SUPPER CLUB - Christmas Eve!!

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Dec 24, 2015 2:47 am

What a great day this will be! (I sound like Chriss, don't I!) I have always loved Christmas Eve. It's always seemed magical to me. I even plan to do a little baking - going to try to make a new recipe - red/white spiral cookies.

IRISH - so happy you'll have Terry and his "gang" with you for the holiday! I hope he is able to move closer to you sooner rather than later.

BECCA - ooohh, so it was items you made, not food you baked, that made your neighbor cry. Is that better? hee hee - sorry, can't resist teasing. It's not my fault - I was born flawed. I've never had a sweet potato souffle before - only cheese.

CHICKIE - I like fruitcake, too. I thought I was the only one!

CAROL - I didn't get around to making your supper last night. We had a little bit of soup left so we had that instead. The day took a bit of a curve and I never got the chops out of the freezer.

JANA - is all that sewing you are doing for Christmas? You better get a wiggle on! So, have you covered that furnace vent with screen now? Or was that your old house? Birds! They get in such funny places! sometimes with the help of cats.

I don't know what's for supper tonite. Maybe those pork chops that didn't materialize yesterday. DH will have his input, I'm sure. Since we already had our family gathering and all our friends are busy, we will be taking it easy tonite. Maybe watch a Christmas movie - I haven't seen Christmas Vacation yet this year! My all -time favorite movie! In fact, we haven't watched any of our traditional viewings yet. There! I now have a plan for the evening - This will give Bill plenty of nap time!

Merry Christmas!

I'm going to put the Fruitcake Cookie Bars recipe in the recipe thread. They are soooooooo good!!! I have to avoid them or there won't be any left!

I have no idea what will be dinner here tonight... we had ham salad sandwiches last evening before DH and sons and DGS went to Star Wars. I got to stay home and put my feet up and snuggle with the dogs while watching some Christmas movies. We were both happy! I've never seen Star Wars movies... at least not all the way through, so I wouldn't really appreciate it.

Now I'm going to post the fruitcake bars recipe and hit the prep work for tomorrow's dinner. Merry Christmas Eve; Merry Christmas!!!

Chickie I love fruit cake but not the cookies. My Mother used to make the cookies too as she loved fruit cake.We always made fruit cake each year along with many many cookies & cakes.Always a fresh coconut cake too.Now I don't make any only cookies & candy.

Maryz Enjoy your Movies .I may do the same thing.I found a good show last nite that feathered all the old carols.loved it.

I too am undecided on menu but know it will be lite.Dont want leftovers either.Maybe a burger. Our neighbor brought a pumpkin pie so DH will enjoy that....Becca

Merry Christmas Eve morning!

I love today! Tomorrow even more! I did get all my sewing done last night.

Mary - it was the other house and the vent was changed shortly there after.

Dinner is at Sarah's house. I am cooking the prime rib - last year, I let the girls do the cooking of the roast last year, it was sad, so I took back that job. All the family, except my Daniel , will be there. We do the big dinner today. Tomorrow is leftovers.

Have a wonderful Christmas!
Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon from warm, brilliant sun, can't believe it's Dec., SW. Pa....This is unbelievable but so sad when you hear about the terrible things happening, weather wise, down south....Mother Nature is really have fits this year......

Mary, I too will be hoping Terry and the boys move back this way, sooner......Of course Stephan is in college and probably will stay in that area or where ever he finds a job and Nick is just a jr. in HS and Terry really doesn't want to take him away from his friends and school right now...But, who knows what the future holds but it has to be better for all 3 of them...Some of the things the boys have talked about just makes my BP go sky high.....

Right now, my kitchen looks like that tornado came through...We are baking cookies and Terry made 2 coconut cream pies, all from scratch...If nothing else, we'll have lots of goodies.....At least until Jim gets his hands on them...He's already made several trips to the kitchen, putting on his sad face, begging for a cookie or 2......

Would you believe, we have to run to the grocery store....Going to need milk and I'd like to pick up a few gift cards.......

Not sure what's on the menu for dinner...That crock pot full of meat balls and sauce didn't last too long last night so we'll need new food....This just might be a good night for pizza, if I can talk Nicky into putting on his chef's had or, I have Pizza Hut on speed dial.....

Happy eating....................

Good Aftrernoon Everyone!
Mary - Sounds like you have such a good plan of watching movies tonight.

Irish - I sense you are happy with the mess in the kitchen, because you love having your son with you!

Jana - Glad you got the sewing done.

Becca - So nice of your neighbor to bring a pumpkin pie.

As for our dinner, I made a vegetarian lasagna a couple weeks ago and put it in the freezer. Yesterday I took it out to thaw. Tonight will be lasagna, salad and garlic toast. We have plenty of cookies to eat and there is still peanut brittle left, although not much.

Tomorrow we have a New York Steak. I buy a 10-12 oz steak and cut it in half before broiling. We will have baked potato, broccoli and salad and perhaps even garlic toast again. Kind of nontraditional, but it is only going to be DH and me. I wanted an easy dinner. It sure made shopping simpler!

Have a Merry Christmas Everyone and give your family a big hug!
Carol
