SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Oct 13th

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Oct 13, 2015 2:59 am

Good Morning!

Today is my DGS's 22nd birthday. It seems like I just had MY 22nd birthday! How do these things happen?? We gave him his gift early (a $50 bill - it' always the right size and color! ;o] ) which he said was going into his savings account for a down payment on a house.

CHICKIE - I hope you cool down a bit pretty soon. 86* two weeks before Halloween seems wrong to me! That lasagna sounds tempting . . . And it's Bill's all-time favorite meal. Someone should make it for him one of these days.

IRISH - sorry the shorts are almost gone for the year! Our UPS driver is still wearing his and we are mid-60s now. So, what did you bake?? Is there any left? Just askin' . . . .

TINA - 5 whole weeks! I sure hope they don't go as quickly as your 100 days of summer! lol!

JANA - sorry your cookies didn't pan out. But the hashbrown thing sounds promising . . . .

BECCA - I'm laughing! Your DGS is planting maple trees and I'm pulling out about 3,000 of the little buggers every year! lol!! Maybe he got some of the smaller, ornamental ones .

CAROL - glad your physical went OK. So, do you teach school or are you attending it? I guess I never knew what you do.

Yesterday I finished cleaning my sewing room. I have all my scrapping/stamping things in there, too, but changed how I store everything and it made so much more room. Now I have space to create! Then I cleaned my kitchen and pantry and took a few things out to the trailer. Friday morning we are leaving once again for a short run east of the mountains to meet up with friends for a few days of wine-tasting. It seems we have been on the road a LOT since June. DH thinks we'll put the trailer to bed after this one. Unless we get another wild hair . . . .

My pork roast didn't thaw enough yesterday so I popped it back into the fridge and made a skillet dinner with leftover hashbrowns, eggs, onions, and bacon bits. Slice tomatoes on the side made it a purrfet supper. So tonite - that roast! potatoes, applesauce, and green beans, I think. And a small salad. It's a big roast, so get ready to be reading about a lot of leftovers!

Have you got your supper plan in place yet?

Mary, I'm hoping these 5 weeks go slow too :-) but with all the other breaks for the holidays I'll only be babysitting in spurts anyway :-)
Our Carne Asada was really yummy last night :-) mine is messier rolled in lettuce leaves though LOL
I think tonight is either chicken, pork chops or banned food, I'll make up my mind later :-) we could split a baked sweet potato too and if that's not enough then salad.

Good early afternoon from a dreary, kind of rainy, chilly Fall day in SW. Pa....Not a good day for outside stuff.....

Mary, you've made me tired just thinking about all your cleaning...Good heavens, girl, slow down But, I'll bet you feel so good after it's all done....As far as the baking, I did the easiest thing possible, made 3 pumpkin pies, 1 for next door, 1 for DGS Dan, and the other for Jim and if you hurry, there might be a tiny piece left.....

Tina, OK, explain what Carne Asada is...Remember the peppers I kept asking about? Well, when we were with Kathy, she brought some home from a Mexican place they both love and I could hardly eat them, it was so hot...BUT, after I took the sauce off the top, the peppers were delicious.....So now I need to know what this dish is....

And speaking of sauce, yesterday someone wrote about either making sauce or having home made sauce....My Chris gave me a recipe for his salsa that is out of this world...He would make half very hot for him and the other half for mild for "weinies" like me....Kathy has made a few batches so far this year and I know Terry has also used the recipe...I didn't have enough tomatoes to make anything this year....

Jim and I just moved 1 of my machines to the basement...Dan's girlfriend wants to make a costume for Halloween and I told her, she could have this one...I'm thinking, after the costume, then comes quilting, right?

Not sure what might be on the dinner menu...Still have the scratchy throat so I'll be eating light...Late yesterday afternoon, I went upstairs and that's where I stayed until 9:00 this morning hoping to knock this thing but it's still lingering...Oh well, good excuse not to do anything.....I did get the chicken soup finished so that could be dinner...............

Happy eating....................

Good Evening All.....the chilly weather seems to be upon us....looks like it could be a long old winter.....the berries are prolific.....the Canadian Ducks have mostly gone to pastures new.....and the breed of Swans that herald a cold...cold winter have already arrived.....ahead of time.....must find out what breed they are.....and try to shoo them away......

had a really good week end.....NO cooking....fabric shopping with my Bristol family......I have to say though.....that the fabric where we went was rather pricey.....a lot more than my local quilt shop.....just got a metre of a very nice blue and left it at that...I will stay with my local in future.....must visit their warehouse(quite recently opened and has a very large range)

Well.....our wandering hero"s returned from their hot and sunny sojourn......and already planning for next years trip......however Sir appears to be going down with a cold.....sorry....make that pneumonia.......and has just taken himself off to his bed with a hot toddy......but he had his supper first........

so todays menu.....Welsh Dragons(blimey they weren't half hot and spicey this time)....Creamed Potatoes....Carrots and Runner Beans.....no afters today....BUT......a couple of Jammy Doughnuts with my coffee later on........

hope you are keeping well and hearty.....and hopefully be back tomorrow....

All this talk of peppers and Mexican food... oh, yummy joy!!! I'm going to be craving it now... tamales... tacos... We've had fajitas several times recently. I never get tired of it. DH says he doesn't like Mexican food, but he sure puts away fajitas and taco salads.

The lasagna last night was delicious, and will be for a couple more nights. DH also says he doesn't like Italian food... BUT... Maybe he eats it because that's all he's getting... Cook's choice! I had made it with only partial pasta and used ribboned zucchini for "pasta". He even got some healthy veggies...

One of the coffee guys left a sack of green beans in DH's car at coffee, so I put them in the crock pot yesterday with onions and bacon pieces. They made a fine accompaniment for the lasagna.

And, there you have tonight's dinner as well... I love warming up instead of cooking!

Irish--I'd love the salsa recipe! I just used a mix for convenience this time... Mrs. Wages and me made this salsa. I like how you think with the machine use... that machine is trained for quilting, right???

Lady Carol--I'm not wanting winter at all, but fall at 86 is still summer. I hope we don't miss fall and go right to winter here. I saw a wooly worm that was all brown... wonder what that means? Hope your DH feels better soon! What are Welsh Dragons? If they are spicy... yummmmm!!!

The dogs and I are off for a walk...

Irish, I don't do very hot either :-)
Carne Asada:
In a zip lock put:
1 lb beef in strips, DD says stew meat is good too :-)
1/4 cup olive oil
a good teaspoon minced garlic
1 small onion chopped tiny
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (less if you want)
1/8 teaspoon Cumin
3 tablespoons cilantro
1-2 chopped very tiny jalapenos (these are hot here, I use 1)

squish it all around in the bag to mix well, seal it and set in fridge for at least one hour or do it in the morning and it'll be amazing by supper time :-)
put a little olive oil in a skillet and have it heated good and pour your meat stuff in and cook over about medium heat until it's your level of done for meat. Serve as tacos, burritos or like me in lettuce leaves :-) I always make guacamole to go with it, have tomatoes and a little cheese to sprinkle on :-) yummy food! Enjoy :-)

I love Mexican, Italian, Jewish, BBQ, and just about anything else! I love food!

Tonight I am trying that hashbrown cassarole. So we will see.

One of my favorites is chile rellano's - haven't had a good one since we moved.

Enjoy!

Hi,
It was work here today. Tonight I made a mustard sauce to put over a lightly floured and fried chicken breast. It was accompanied by salad, potatoes and green beans.

Maryz - I am a credentialed teacher working as a substitute. I work in elementary schools K-5 only, by choice. My BA is Home Economics and I earned my credential in 2001. This is probably my last year of working.

Sorry we are having a flex alert and I need to get off the computer. It is cooler than last night, but humidity is higher than the weekend.

Carol
