SUPPER CLUB - Fri, April 10th
Good Morning!
We've had some doozies of storms across the country. I hope everyone is doing OK. I feel guilty that we are so mild (60-ish) and relatively dry.
My grandson survived his dental surgery just fine. When my son, who will be 40 in May, had his out 20 yrs ago, that evening, he was standing at the sink and suddenly passed out! My DH, who is significantly shorter than Mike, caught him and eased him to the floor. But I think Drew did better. I only got 2 wisdom teeth and I still have them. My mom and DD#1 never got any. Dentist says that's hereditary. Apparently we are "phasing them out" because they were designed for "ripping up dinosaaur meat", or whatever was the special of the day at the Prehistoric Safeway!
IRISH - glad the birds are having a happy reunion! It was like that here about a month ago. Now they have settled down and are going about their birdly business. I love blue jays! Of course, we actually have stellar jays, which doesn't make sense to me because they are such a pretty bright blue. So we call them blue jays anyway. How was your lunch yesterday? Did you make that swiss steak?
CHICKIE - when you said yesterday that your grill only holds brats, my eye didn't pick up the 'b' and all I saw was RATS. and I thought, 'good gosh, what's Doyal eating now??' And I know you had "severe weather" last night. Report please!
JANA - oh, I LOVE gnocchi! I bet you make your own, too! One of these days I'm going to try it. I like stroganoff, too! You are having a good week in your new kithen! BTW, did you ever get the final touches finished?
JOANNE - sorry to hear your arthritis if flaring up. You know, our friend, Lois, had RA her entire life. She lived for a year in Hawaii and said she never felt better than that year of her life. They made two more visits later in life and each time, by the third day she was feeling so much better. Just sayin' . . . .
BECCA - yum! Cherry pie! It's on my fave list! Is there any left, by any chance? . . . . Bet your DH can't wait for his new John Deere to arrive! Bill will be wanting to look it up on the internet so if you have the model number, he would appreciate it . . Men don't have to know each other to be interested in each other's trucks and tractors! Just like us gals and our quilting!
Yesterday our new Foxy kitty disappeared after breakfast and didn't show up until midnight last night. I was so worried about him! But then Riley disappeared right after her supper and still is missing. She hasn't skipped a meal in 16 years. She's been looking a little ragged lately as her 16th birthday is next week. That's getting up there for a cat. Maybe it's her "time". But I hope not.
Tonite I think I'll make chicken and rice and toss a salad. Now to find my chicken and rice recipe!
What's on your menu for tonite?

Ha, ha, ha! You are right! I'm sure he would eat RATS if I would fix them. I've cooked squirrel for him (not for me!), and he licked them up in a flash. I've also done rabbit (not for me!), and he's bragged about them to his friends. So, rats... probably. I remember opening my fridge when Shelly was in college and finding a rat in a bag. She was a biology major, and it was for an anatomy class.
I hope your Riley returns... sniff, sniff, tear... sob!
We are having ham. I bought a half spiral ham, and now I'll be cooking creatively with ham, ham, ham...
Have you ever had faro? I substituted it instead of brown rice in my Cajun red beans, rice and sausage. It is delicious! I got a bag when I was in Joplin in February and hadn't used it. Too bad the stores here don't carry "unusual" items. Oh, I never told DH what he was eating... what he doesn't know about healthy will not hurt him. Our little secret!
Happy eatings!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Fri, April 10th
Good late afternoon from, now, a very sunny, warmish Sw. Pa...We had the colorful, noisy, storms go through here last night and most of the night..This morning, we had lots of hard rain...Maybe that will be it for a couple of days....
Mary, my lunch yesterday was great at well as my lunch today...My sister picked me up this morning and we went to a very big craft store and then another lunch...AND I wore my new shirt/jacket and thought I might not get out of the store intact...Everyone loved it and at lunch I didn't dare take it off...Thank goodness my sister is bigger than me or for sure she might have tried to confiscate it...
And last night's dinner was good, Dan loved the swiss steak and ended up taking home enough for his dinner tonight....Love to have him come...Sure hope Riley comes home...I don't allow BabyGirl or Kelly to go outside because I'd be worried sick...I even panic when our feral, Jake, doesn't show up for breakfast....
Joanne, so sorry to hear you RA is giving you fits...But, you know, Mary suggested Hawaii and I'm thinking, you might need a tour guide, not that I've been there but I'd be more than happy to show you around...AND, what's with your Reds beating up on our Pirates????This has got to stop! But, I do hope you're feeling better soon....
Becca, your DH sounds just like Jim in the sweet department....Goodies don't last very long around here...And he doesn't gain an ounce...Me, I look at it and my hips expand...
Chickie, I'm curious about Faro also....We'll all keep your little secret, only because we've all done those same things...If they only knew!
Well, although I don't feel much like doing anything, I'm sure I can find something...........
For our dinner, Jim will have 1/2 of my lunch and we do have enough leftovers for tonight....As far as afters, it might have to be graham crackers, we don't even have ice cream......
Happy eating.............

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Fri, April 10th
Good afternoon!
It has been a beautiful day here. Ethan has come and stayed most of the day. We organized the toy box and got it all cleaned up. I got my kits ready for tomorrow and people want to stay after and do the class. So I will need to order more from QIAD. I think if they ask me again next year, we will do the half square ruler, where you get 8 half squares for two seams. We will see. I also have all my demos ready too.
Dinner - chicken in marinara over polenta. Saw a recipe for creamy polenta - same as mine, but at the end, add in a little cream with the cheese. Looked yummy!
Yes, I have attempted to make my own gnocchi, but they fell apart, not quite enough flour. I got a gnocchi board, so I can roll them off with the ridges. I will try again. It is something fun that the grands can help with too. Then enjoy all their work.
Enjoy,
Jana
Still waiting on DH to do the final calculations on how juch tile is needed. Humm..... time to go and bug him about it! LOL

Mary--if we had bad weather last night, I knew nothing about it. The stars were out for the first time since Monday night when we went to bed. Now, the two nights before--different story... fireworks and alerts. Everything is fine.
FYI--farro is a grain that looks like a cross between wheat, barley and rice. It comes from the Mediterranean. It's actually organic wheat, so it might not be good for gluten-free diets. (I just read the fine print.) I purchased a bag of Bob's Red Mill "Grains of Discovery", and yes it was at a health foods store. It can be used like rice. 1/4 cup dry has 200 calories, 7 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein.
I, too, wish we had a Trader Joe's remotely close. The nearest one is in Kansas City--on the other end of the state from us.
We have another new calf today... #17

Oh Mary I hope Riley returns home safe, ours was 17 last year when she went for a walk and didn't return, I still looked for her for weeks hoping I'd find her.
I've been busy in the yards the last couple of days. Home Depot started their black Friday Spring sale yesterday and had stepping stones on sale for $.88! So off to Cruces I went DD was already there for her monthly check up so they brought 70 home and so did I
I was one wore out person last night from unloading mine plus my other 48 pavers I got and some plants
and today I planted all those plants!
supper here will be burgers on the grill or forbidden food and salad
and resting for me
Tina
