Happy Weekend!
After such pretty weather last two days, we had wind and rain all night long. Exactly as predicted. And our weather usually goes east. So look out, all y'all!
IRISH - poor Jim. Hope the game brightened him up some. I'm no basketball fan, but I will be rooting for the Irish just for him! And yes, I have seen close-up pictures of eagles' talons. Their elegance as they soar, and the gentle care they give their babies. And I LOVE that they are our national symbol! My sister makes shoofly cake and pie and also funny cake. she married a guy from Pottstown back in 1962 and though he "went the route" some years alter she kept his family recipes.
JOANNE - how do you make your sweet potato casserole? Not liking it so sweet, I've taken to par-boiling the potatoes, dicing them coarsely, sprinkling with just a little bit of brown sugar and some crushed pineapple. I also like walnuts in them but DH suddenly decided 4 yrs ago he didn't like nuts in his food. So I put nuts in half now.
JANA - al fresco season is coming! Soon, we'll be putting our TV out on the deck and spending our evenings out there.
LADY CAROL - My tote bags are merely simple grocery bags. Easy to make. I made 16 of them last fall for Christmas gifts. However, if there's pockets, zippers, or any other 'fancies', I'm not your gal! And here's a hint that crosses sewing with kitchen - I use old plastic cutting mats, cut them in thirds, and they fit into the bottom of my grocery totes perfectly so they stand up. I make a matching sleeve to slip the plastic piece into.
I've spent the last 2-1/2 days working on my Dear Jane quilt - the triangle-shaped border blocks. I got 6 blocks finished. I WILL conquer this project one day. But no day soon! I'ts not keeping me off the streets and out of the bars - it's driving me INTO the bars! lol!!
Now on to supper. I'm going to a long luncheon today at a friend's house. Four of us, all former co-workers. We have been getting together for decades to celebrate each others' birthdays and Christmas. We have 2 March birthdays and 2 Dec. birthdays. So I probably won't be hungry tonite. I'll be "off the cooker". (lol! So love that phrase. It's even fun to say! off the cooker. Off the cooker.) Anyway, supper, if we have it, will be something leftover from nights past and tossed into the freezer. I think there's a package of old soup, and maybe a Marie Callender's chicken pot pie. And I saw something else but wasn't sure what it was . . . So I guess we'll ALL be surprised tonite!
Hope your supper isn't a surprise! Unless it's out to your own Mama's Grill!
