I keep typing in "Dec" for the date. I'm starting to think I should just give up on Jan and work on Feb instead!
IRISH - OK, you can be one of my favorites, too. As long as there's no banned foods on your plate! Sad to learn that you've lost another family member. Know your heart is still raw.
JANA - you got a lot of good work out of your Daniel! how do you do that?? In our family, it's the other way around - we go visit the kids and do the work for them!!
Yesterday we ended up having an impromptu supper at Autumn's. She had a pot of chicken barley soup on the stove. The girl can work wonders with barley. And she didn't get that from her mother, as we all know! lol!!
So tonite, we are going to tackle those cube steak leftovers from New Year's Day. They should still be OK, shouldn't they? I trust JANA to wave us off them if she (or Sarah) thinks they might be "iffy". lol!
Hope your supper isn't "iffy" tonite.

IRISH--let me know how the BBQ setting works on your blankie. I've always read that cold makes you burn calories faster and more... ha! It does not work for me. I am always cold to the point of shivering, have hard, cold fat pads on my thighs, and all I do is put on blubber. I should be a twig if the "cold" thing worked. Instead, my temperature goes down like a hummingbird and I go into the torpor that lets them not burn calories.
We had the big pot of ham, beans, veggies, barley, etc. I made a loaf of sprouted wheat bread. It's very hearty, but I forgot to put the salt in it, so it really needs salty garlic butter on it. JANA--I think I'll try your recipe this evening! I can also see the bread made into French toast, but DH doesn't really like it.
We will be having re-runs tonight.
MARY--Autumn's soup sounds delicious! Did you use all your barley? I know I'm not your favorite--I can't stay away from your banned foods... Maybe you can just like me a little bit...
I got some sun yesterday in the shelter of the porch. I felt so much better emotionally! This morning it is sunny and cold. I went to feed the birds and brrrrrrrrr! Didn't stay any longer than necessary to fill the feeders and scatter seed.
Enjoy!

Good morning,
Mary - the steaks should be fine, but eat them today, tomorrow would be iffy.
Chickie - I wish that fat would melt off - I have a large insulating layer that I would love to have disappear. My kids would spread my garlic spread on any piece of bread - they love the stuff. In fact, inform me, if I get stingy with how much I put on - they like it thick!
Dinner - I have chicken, turkey and a steak in the feeezer - just need to see how much time I have to make dinner. DH is making a list of things he needs to get done today - he never makes a list! An alien space ship must have landed and traded me a different model! LOL
Hope and pray that Lady Carol and Sir are better.
Enjoy,
Jana

Good morning from sunny but sooooo cold, SW. Pa...I'm not going to complain, I'm not going to complain, nope, well, maybe a little....I hate it!
Mary, now I feel so much better, I was worried...When I do "have" to make that banned stuff, I'll blame it on Jim, ok??? I think we both should take lessons from Jana...We also usually end up working for the kids......One of these days, I'm going to make "Bill's" cubed steak recipe but I need to clean out the fridge 1st....I'm sure Jim will love it.....
Chickie, well, so far, it isn't working other than keeping me warm....Oh well, maybe in the long run, this fat is helping me stay warm this winter......
And onto dinner....I put the last of the ham in a pot and will add the cabbage and potatoes later....Can't wait to start on new food.....
Happy eating...............
