SUPPER CLUB - New Year's Day!

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Jan 01, 2015 1:42 am

Happy New Year, y'all!

My wish for everyone of us is for a happier, healthier, year filled with blessings and an appreciation of where those blessings come from. Amen. (we'll call that 'Grace'.)

Have we all recovered from our wild celebrations last night? I think we were in bed by 10pm! But like Happy Hour - it's New Year's somewhere! and it counts!

So some of you actually like the yucca plants. They are pretty, and I do like their flowers. But my arms are so scratched up and scabbed over from cleaning out that patch that I quickly developed a hearty dislike of them. Next time I come south I'm bringing a bulldozer! Give me our leafy green, beautiful Rhodedendrons any day! That's Washington's State flower!

Bill has put in a request for a recipe he saw on Facebook for cubed steak in the crockpot. It takes Cream of Mushroom soup and onion soup mix mostly. He even went out and bought a new appliance for it! A combo rice-cooker/steamer/slow-cooker just for this dish as our traveling crockpot is just too big for the little amount that we'll be making. I guess we'll have either mashed potatoes with it, or hot noodles. DH will make that choice too, when it's time. I also have fresh salad making's so that, too, will be on the menu. Oh! And I have some black-eyed peas. Aren't they for luck on New Year's?

How are you all starting your New Year? You know, they say that whatever you do on New Year's Day, you'll do all year long, so be careful! Don't spend TOO much tine in the kitchen! I'd take that crockpot into the sewing room just to be on the safe side!

Happy New Year, ALL!

We, too, made it an early night, last night. Another gloomy day, here.

I plan to sew a little, hopefully. As for food, today, well, I got us a small little ham. Will put that in the oven late afternoon and fix some taters, and baked beans, and salad with it.

Nice to have a bit of leftovers for sandwiches.

Hugs

Good morning,

Mary - Biill was on Pinterest? My boys call that a evil website! LOL if I say I saw sonething on Pinterest, they roll their eyes at me. But I do it anyway! Found many suggestions for my kitchen on there.

Dinner tonight - I haven't a foggest clue. I have tons of stuff in the freezer, so I will see what falls out. We won't starve, lots of leftovers and snacks as well. I made Daniel chocolate crepes with ice cream, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream - that boy could live on those! And donuts too. He is my very skinny child! 6'4" and wears a 33 inch waist for his pants. Hard to find that size, with long enough legs! His desk at wirk is stuffed with goodies.

Enjoy,
Jana

Happy New Year from a very sunny but cold, SW. Pa....

WELL, I guess I'm one of the few that actually made it to midnight, usually doesn't happen....We did stay at the neighbors until almost 10:00 and then till I got the coffee made for today and all the cats tucked in, it was midnight...I texted all the kids and picked up my book and read until 2:30....So, the fuzzy head isn't from that 1 glass of wine but lack of sleep....

Mary, that dish Bill found really sounds good...After you guys try it, how about posting the recipe...And I'm all for taking that crock pot to the sewing room...I also had heard, what you do today......
So, here I am eating, was reading and I'm going to spend the rest of the day with the sewing machine....That sounds like a good year to me.....

As for our dinner, I do have a pork roast in the crock pot along with sauerkraut and will be making mashed potatoes......Hot dogs will come tomorrow.....That's been our tradition forever.....
The other tradition is belonging to the Polar Bear club where you jump in one of the rivers in Pgh. on this day....I'm whacky but not that crazy to have a membership.....

Happy eating.................

If I were in Mary Z's seat that shrimp would be history....LOL

I am making a French Canadian Tourtiere, or in my mind it is called pork pie along with a salad and homemade wheat rolls. I think there may be a slice of apple cranberry pie to top it all off.

Last night we had the annual Bingo here...sloppy joes, slaw, grape salad and plain grapes, crescent roll/hotdogs w/cheese, chip dip, baked beans..good stuff! We had a blast..little Ryan brought two of his friends..nothing like 3 10 yr. olds!

Tonight will be the little leftovers...not much!

Love the pic of Maryz and Cindy! Hope everyone had a great new years eve! Lay around football watching today...

Hi everybody, We are home again! For good this time. I've been home 10 mins. and already got a load of clothes on to wash. (I guess I know how my year will go!)

We are having black-eyed peas, cooked cabbage, ham and corn bread for supper tonight.

Whatever you are doing, just know I'm praying for you, Abita
