Supper Club - - Thursday, October 2

Post by FarmChick » Thu Oct 02, 2014 4:25 am

Good morning! I think Mary is still on the beach, so I thought I'd start this.

Carol--I really enjoy those "Finding your Roots" shows. I think I might like them better than "Who do you think you are?", but I follow all of them. Last night (taped from earlier) was especially good. I am thinking I might have to join Ancestry.com to find out more about my father's family. I hit a brick wall quickly with them. I only hesitate because it would cut into my sewing time.

Tonight we are going out for a late anniversary celebration. It was the first night all the kids could get together. DH asked where I'd like to go, and I said to a restaurant in Independence (KS) where we went on one of our first dates. I also wanted to take the sons, spouses, and grands who are over 21. It's going to be lots of fun. They are a sports bar now since an ownership change several years ago, but the burgers are awesome. I'll be having leftovers tomorrow night.

What are you dishing out this evening?

Good morning,

Chickie - Ancestry.com has linked up with the Mormon Church to access many more records. You can go to the Church's website - it is free and start your search there. Family History (genealogy) is so much fun. Anyone can use the Church's Family History site, you don't have to be a member either. FamilySearch.com Just read a news article that they teamed up with another site as well and now you can search for newspaper obits anywhere in the country.

People eat squirrel? I thought that was just Hollywood hype! LOL Being a city girl, squirrels are just for entertainment - we had several in the backyard of the Ca. house, named Chippy and Jumpy. Oh, how they teased my kitties.

Dinner - well it is PNW banned with a rice pilaf.

My Giants won last night - so tomorrow will be hot dogs with chili and cheese. Maybe even some peanuts to snack on. Ballpark food! LOL

Enjoy,
Jana

My cousin researched on my Moms side back to 1600s.Another cousin did my Dads side so we are covered. And a cousin of DHs did his history. But we both still have questions that we did not ask relatives & now its too late.

It was groceries & errands so Subway it is today.I plan to make coconut cream pie for neighbor who helped DH with his golf cart so DH can have that too....Happy eating to all...Becca

Chickie, sounds like an enjoyable evening of celebrating for all :-)
Jana, we had our forbidden food last night :-) tonight we're having cube steak with a green Chile, onion and tomatoes concoction I throw together and a salad, DH might have a baked potato :-) Thanks for the info on going through your church for genealogy, I got stuck years ago maybe that will help unstick me :-)
Becca, when we go to WalMart, they have a Subway right inside the front door and oh the yummy smells! I'm going to have to eat there one day, it's just not on my diet because of the bread but I think a treat is called for every once in awhile :-)

Good afternoon from sunny, warm, SW. Pa...Another of those purrrrfect days, here in the east.....

Well, even if it's warm and sunny, it's a sad day here in the "burgh"....Jana's Giants came to town and knocked our Buccos for a loop....Even with the the stadium filled with black clad fans, they just did their thing....Oh well, there's always next year.....

I did google the beach where Mary is camping and it's gorgeous...There was even a picture with a RV, couple of people and a dog that looked just like Scottie, right there on the beach.....I know she's having a blast!

I was to go to a "Breakfast at Tifany's" this morning but thought I'd better pass....And tonight, is Jim's big night with a banquet and awards and all that fun stuff...So, guess who isn't cooking or even thinking of cooking....

So enjoy the day, I know I will.....

Happy eating.........

Chickie - Jana is right. FamilySearch.com is an excellent site. You might try your library to see if they subscribe to Heritage Quest. It has the census records, but Family Search has them too. Always the best place to start. Finding Your Roots has been airing two episodes here, one from last season, followed by this season. I miss watching WDYTYA?. We do not have cable.

Becca - There are always questions you wished you would have asked. I just know my Dad would have been so pleased with how much I have found out. My Mom, age 97, is still alive and I have asked her some questions, sometimes she is helpful still. Still don't know where my Mom's Grandfather is buried in Pennsylvania.

Jana - Congratulations on the Giants win. Sounds like you will be eating Ball Park food.

It is to be very hot here today. I think we may have sandwiches. Maybe spaghetti, not sure yet.

Thanks for all the family history help. DH and his sister have done their families way back as well. My Dad’s dad was in his 70s when my dad was born. I found out his sister was a half sister (no children), and there was also another child that I’m sure my dad and his sister never knew. His dad was illiterate, but his mother was educated, at least somewhat. I know where his dad was buried, but nothing about his mother. She may have remarried. My dad ran away to sea when he was 13. My mother might have met his parents once, but my dad had nothing to do with them. I have a feeling it was not a happy home. I’ll check out familysearch.com when I have some time.

It’s funny how when MaryZ is away that we all seem to be having lots of the unmentionable food.

Jana—people do eat squirrel. I, too, was a city girl. I’ve learned so much in the last nine years… not all of it is nice. Poor people ate lots of squirrel and rabbit in years past. I’m sure they ate a lot of other critters, too. I’ve seen cookbooks with lots of “interesting” recipes. I have also cooked beaver when they were destroying the pond dam. Congratulations, and GO GIANTS!!!

Becca—Kansas’ weather changes frequently, and those storms can be brutal as they roll across the plains. Levi is probably three hours or more from me. We are warm and humid with storm watches. My DH loves coconut pie.

Tina—Subway has great salads… you just add all the good stuff you can eat and they make it. Mom asked me to get her some of the bread, but they don’t sell it unless it is a sandwich. I get the deconstructed sandwich and give her the bread.

Irish—sorry about the Pirates. Wish everyone could be a winner… even the Yankees so Derek Jeeter could go out with a World Series win. He’s a cutie. Love that you don’t have to even think about cooking! I had to make brunch when DH returned from coffee, but that’s a no-brainer.

Carol—my mom can answer a lot of questions on her side. I think my sister has a good family history there. I will check the library next time I get there.

Cheers!
