SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Oct 1st

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Sep 30, 2014 2:37 pm

Wow! October already! Will soon be frost on our pumpkins!

You know, it never occurred to me to ban squirrels!! BECCA, if you put squirrel on your menu, please tell us you are eating chicken! They are pets to us.

Because a few of you asked - I bought a stalk of fresh brussels sprouts at Trader Joes. $2.99 for 1 stalk. Every night, I break about a dozen sprouts off and cook them for supper. I steam them, microwave them, or roast them. They aren't so bad, but it will be a while before I buy them again!

Tonite we'll be camping and i don't really know what we'll be having for supper. But hopefully we'll be cooking outside - so that means BILL will cook! It's an unspoken law of camping.

I'll be off-line while we're gone - 5 nights. One night will be a grilled pork tenderloin. Another night will be chicken in cranberry sauce over jasmine rice. (Tina, does Jaz know about jasmine rice? Bet she'd love that!). And we've got soups and grilled cheese and I'm sure there will be some leftovers. So you all will be on your own! Please don't starve, but remember - no F--h, liver, or SQUIRREL! Otherwise, yum yum!!

Hi y'all from south La. Tonight (it's still tues here) we had taco salads. I wanted something easy before my 2 NCIS shows came on. Mark Harmon is so sweet, and he has aged very well! LOL My guys enjoy squirrel gumbo, but none for me. I have always browned roasts before putting them in the crock pot, but I agree, that does mess up more dishes. Next time I will go brown-less. haha Wednesday night will have to be something brought in, not sure what yet. Enjoy your day, from Abita

Abita - both NCIS's were good last night. Person of Interest was Ok.

I had roasted two pork tenderloins last night, so will have leftovers with some kind of veggie.

We went grocery shopping last night after Frankie got home and showered so on the way home we got Wendy's, I had the apple, pecan chicken salad and Frankie a burger combo. So tonight will be the forbidden food for sure, salad and cooked carrots :-)
I have to take Jazmyne back to the dentist this afternoon, one of her spacers broke, I hope it's a simple non traumatic trip. DD has technology training all this week so she's coming to get kids after 5 every day, makes for a long day for me.

Good early afternoon from partly sunny, getting warmer, Sw. Pa....Just when I say partly, the sun comes out.......

Mary, I'm with you and the "pets"..We buy peanuts just to feed the squirrels and chipmunks that run through the yard...Of course the chipmunks bury the peanuts, can't remember where, and then next spring we find them all through the yard...I'm sure you don't have to be told to have fun but "Have fun".....

Chris came home yesterday and Kathy said, he seems to be so much stronger..He has dialysis today and his therapist will be coming so he's in for a full day....Kathy, of course is a worrier so I told her to relax and have a glass of wine (or 2)..Isn't that what Dr. Mary would prescribe???

For our dinner, it's going to be something soft...My throat is still irritated from the scope, tummy is messed up and I sure don't want to do any running...Well, enough of that....I'm thinking something with chicken, gravy and noodles or mashed spuds.....That should go down easy and Jim will be thrilled....We do have store bought cookies and if not those, there is a loaf of zucchini bread in the freezer for afters..........

Happy eating.................

Good afternoon!

Let me clear up the squirrel thing here. Yes, I’ve fixed squirrel for DH. When he is protecting his special paper-shell pecan crop, it’s open season as far as he is concerned on the little buggers, cute as they may be. I had no idea how to fix them, but I did them like fried chicken and cream gravy. DH said it was the best he had ever eaten. Thankfully, we don’t live near the pecan trees now so squirrel has not been in my skillets or on the table. I do not partake. It’s like a restaurant—I only cook it and don’t even taste it.

Abita—good to see you! I also think Scott Bakula has aged well. I like the NCIS shows. Have never fixed squirrel in gumbo. I’m vegetarian whenever there is “mystery meat” on the table.

Lyn—We didn’t tape Person of Interest. I liked it better the first few seasons.

Tina—we need to catch some of that forbidden food and have it while MaryZ is off line. Your salad sounds delicious. We were at Burger King a few weeks ago, and I had a similar salad there.

Irish—we have native pecan trees in interesting places courtesy of the squirrels. I never mind watching them. Happy to hear Chris is back home. Know Kathy will have her hands full as caregiver. I like your prescription for her. I like your dinner selection to soothe and comfort your throat with comfort food.

Becca—so sorry your DH is still having difficulties with eating. It’s so hard to have to cook two meals. Funny the squirrel was cooked with chicken. “Tastes just like chicken.”

Mary—how nice that Bill does the camp cooking! You have lovely menus while you’re out!

We’ll be cleaning up the taco soup tonight. It’s been so good. I baked the left over chocolate chip cookie dough in a bar pan last night and put lots of pecans pressed into the top.

Cheers!

No squirrel here, either! Earl even made a "squirrel feeder" for them..tho I believe that he used to hunt them years ago LOL!

Not sure about dinner...Earl is feeling dizzy..we both get vertigo on occasion and is off his feed. Probably soup...and I made some jello with fruit.

Giants and Pirates tonight! Go Pirates! lol!

Joanne - I know where your vertigo is coming from - it is from watching the Giants run around the bases! LOL GO GIANTS!

Dinner is leftovers while watching the game.

Dorothy - so glad thar Chris is home with his "good" nurse - with her care he will do wonderful. So if your Pirates beat my Giants, I am rooting for anybody that will beat the Dodgers!

DH is sick, so it was soup for him. Think I will have the leftover Sloppy Joe, made with ground turkey. No squirrel here! I think they are cute if they stay out of the fruit trees. They eat avocados and pomegranates. Last night I watched Finding your Roots on PBS. It was wonderful.
