SUPPER CLUB - Friday, AUGUST 1st!!
How did we get to August so quickly??!
BECCA - yes, we have lots of different kinds of blackberries here. The little wild mountain blackberries in July and then in August the big ones ripen - Himalayas (broad flat leaf) and Cascades (large split leaf). We also have salmon berries, huckleberries, red huckleberries, salal berries, thimble berries, and black caps. All wild. All yummy!
CAROL - your restaurant rules for food are what our county extension services advise - 4 days, and if in doubt, throw it out. They also say if it's been out of the fridge for more than 2 hours, toss it. But depending on the food, I give it a few more hours if necessary.
CHICKE - all that washing, scrubbing, waxing! I was planning on that today for myself, but now I'm all worn out from reading about your day!
IRISH - sounds like you have the same raisin debate at your house that we do here. DH loves them in everything. I do not. We've hit on a happy medium, though - Craisins! They give a different enough flavor that I like them, yet they are enough like raisins that Bill likes them. We're the same with nuts. I'm pro, he's con(which is a new 'thing' with him). I haven't found a compromise on that one yet.
JANA - your chix recipe sounds good except here it would be breasts, not thighs. do you coat the chicken with anything first? I usually dip the chicken in egg, or milk, or coat it with Mayo first. and sometimes, I pound the chicken breasts flat, do the crumb treatment, and then after it's baked, top with a bit of marinara and parm and let it bake a bit more. (this is how I do polenta, too).
LADY CAROL - did you get to eat yesterday??
JOANNE - she's probably over at Mama's having breakfast! lol!
You can probably tell, I'm stalling - again - trying to think. We ended up with burgers last night. It's still hot here so I haven't wanted to do any indoor cooking. Maybe we'll some chipotle seasoned chix breasts from Costco, potato halves, and thick zucchini slices. And maybe a bit of salad from what's left of the lettuce. And DH just walked by and OK'd that menu, so it's probably a 'go'. Whew! sometimes I wish I were a dog and dinner was always the same, at the same time, and just fed to me. Wouldn't that be easy??

Good morning,
Mary - I use to dip the chicken in melted butter, but now just use the moisture on the chicken itself. Trying to save a calorie or two! LOL
Dinner here is leftover tortilla soup.
Enjoy,
Jana

Good morning from sunny, getting warmer, Sw. Pa...I have a feeling we're in for a darn near purrrrfect day....I have clothes flapping on the line, plants are all watered and I'm ready for my tea break.....
Mary, with the raisins, it's mostly just Jim and I eating this stuff and we both love raisins, or at least I think he does, so far hasn't complained...And the same with the nuts, yummmm....
Your dinner sounds very delish and more appealing than dog food, lol....Having the dogs visit, I've found all they need is that huge sack of food...Now, if you're talking felines, that's another story...At any given time, we have at least 30 cans of cat food and you can be sure, I'll open the wrong one...The "princess" will take a sniff and look at me as to say, "you want me to eat that?"...We are lucky to have our feral friend, Jake...He eats everything that is left over...He's like Nick, lol.....
And you can tell I'm also stalling....(I'm thinking of joining Joanne at Mama's) But, instead of "mustgos" last night, that's on the menu (I think) for tonight....The rest of the troops are leaving in the morning and we need to give the frig a good cleaning....
Happy eating..............

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Friday, AUGUST 1st!!
Mary and Jana - I dip the chicken in 1% low fat milk instead of butter.
Mary - Yes, 4 hours in the danger zone (40*F - 140*F) is also followed. Since you do not know about processed food of any sort, 2 hours out of refrigeration is a good idea.
Tonight we will be having the leftover herbed chicken we had last evening, with salad, vegetable and potatoes.

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Friday, AUGUST 1st!!
Here I am! Usually I sign online in the morning and no on is stirring yet but today I caught you all!
Last night was Mama's Grill...Bob Evans for lunch and the Rheumatologist right before. Xrays of my R knee and R shoulder, RX for Prednisone (I HATE steroids!)and an appt. with Dr. to try some PT on my shoulder. Rheumy Dr. says my shoulder may have other issues beside the Arthur..we'll see.
Tonight will be burgers, Velveeta Mac and Cheese (Earl's favorite) and maybe a salad. Tomorrow we go to the showgrounds to clean the log cabin and the general store...and the schoolhouse. The show starts next Thursday so I told the Dr. the steroids will have to wait until the Monday after....I don't want to growl at the visitors at the show! lol!!
