SUPPER CLUB - Fri, July 11th
Another day of cooking (or not!) and eating!
CHICKIE - really?? gizzards and livers?? That's just so wrong. But since you're 2,000 miles away from MY plate, I'll allow it.
BECCA - I wonder where mama deer was. But they do leave their babies for hours at a time. Guess she thought you were a safe place.
JOANNE!! - I woke up thinking about you! So glad to 'see' you!
IRISH - everything sounds happy at your house. Will hold good thoughts for Jim and his scan. Autumn has a stray cat, too, that comes for food twice a day, Now the stray cat has a bed and a name, but doesn't want to come inside - yet.
CAROL - so THAT'S where gooseberries grow! Gooseberry pie was my dad's favorite but we always had to buy canned pie filling. I've never seen the berries growing and always wondered where they were hiding. So sorry about Sir's head. OUCH!
I don't have a clue about supper tonite. I'm not even interested in breakfast yet. It might be burgers but it could also be grilled chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. I guess I'll be surprised come 6 o'clock!

Good morning! There’s just no accounting for taste, is there? I must say the gizzards and livers were delicious. DH can’t stand my livers, and I can’t stand his gizzards. The rest of you may have enjoyed the 3-pieced mixed dinner I brought back to Mom. When Tasha and I went by to show her the aprons and quilt top Mom asked if I was getting chicken. I said I was and asked if she wanted some. “Oh! Yes!” was her response. She is only a mile or so off the highway, so it’s not much out of my way to stop on my way back home. The chicken is “world famous”—same recipes they used when the Balkan refugees worked the coal mines over there in that area. Some of the descendants still run Chicken Annie’s and Chicken Mary’s. I prefer Chicken Annie’s, but others are loyal to Mary’s. Yes, there was a feud way back when and the ladies split up and opened separate establishments to serve the miners. Mary serves spaghetti with her chicken. Annie’s has a garlic potato salad and a garlic slaw that I love. (There are also traditional slaw and other side dishes to order.)
Joanne—it was great to hear from you! I always wonder how you are doing and miss your daily posts.
I’ll be having the livers that are left, and DH will have something else that I can rustle up. I’m doing laundry and cleaning today.
Odie met a kitty yesterday at DD’s workplace. It had come over to visit from across the street and was very interested in everything Odie. Odie was a little angel and tolerated the friendly kitty with no move to chase or growl. Of course, Odie is well-behaved when he is on his leash and in his “vest of shame” (a harness that he can not wriggle out of and get away). All bets are off when he is not tethered. I think he couldn’t resist “Socks” any more than the rest of us could. I wish I could have brought it home, but it already had a home.
Carol—that happened to DS3 who hasn’t a hair on his pate, either. I think he might have gotten a stitch or two in his injury. Your gooseberry picking rivals my blackberry picking. I add heat, humidity, ticks and chiggers into the mix here. My arms are still recovering from the thorns.
Becca—the mama deer “stash” their babies then go eat. The cows are the same way. Sometimes they seem to forget where they leave their babies and wander around the pasture calling them.

Good morning,
I am with you on the chicken innards! Regular chicken, yes!
Dinners have been busy around here. Tonight I think the kids are cooking! Whoopie! They want to do dutch oven dinners - up the canyon, but because of the storms, it will be in the backyard at Sarah's. I am so good with that! Work continues on the barn.
We have had deer with the newborn fawns in the yard - so much fun to watch. But since the fences have been going up, the deer seem to stay out of the yard now.
Enjoy,
Jana

Good Evening All....a lovely warm and sunny Hereford.....now there are not too many weeks(days) in the year I can get to say that...but it does feel good.....
The dented head is still dented and accompanied with quite a bump....however since the aforementioned area is nicely browned (by the sun)it is difficult to see if there is a bruise in the offing....the scratched arms are now itchy war wounds.....but with another load of Gooseberries in the freezer we can cope with them....made sure the shirt sleeves were down.....and long cuffs came out of hibernation.....(they are like those carrier bag holders)
Maryz....Gooseberries are rather tart and do need sugar.....we also grow Dessert Gooseberries which are red and sweet.....they get mixed in and go into the same pies and crumbles.....but the bushes are very spiteful with their long thorns.....
after Apple Pies....they are our next favourite afters.....
which brings up todays menu......Sa...n Salad with Tiny New Potatoes........Scones(2) each.......with Strawberry Jam and Clotted Cream for afters........
Carol.......
Chickie.......we love Chicken Livers.....hm.... haven't had them for quite a while.....
Joanne....lovely to see you back......Bubble and Squeak......leftover cooked Cabbage and Cooked Potatoes and chopped Onion fried and topped with Eggs....delish....
