OK Call Me Stupid!!

Post by dsf618 » Tue May 13, 2014 7:49 pm

Everyone all together now - Deb is stupid. This guy has been stopping by the house for the past two years and Bernie and he bust on each other. This guy is selling steaks, chicken, etc.

The guy stopped today. Was ad to hear Bernie was gone, etc. He showed me what he had - nice looking steaks and chicken. He would give me a deal. Well, I fell for it. I hate going out to the store and I certainly can not afford beef with the prices around here.

So to make a long story short - he caught me on one of the best days I have had - Monday and Tuesday it was warm here, the sun was shining, I got yard work done, Robbyn took the day off from school as a mental health day. We sat on the side porch with Cleo, I had a little beer (no I was not drunk) talked and had a good time. The farm takes on this mystical, magical quality on days like this and I was basking in it.

Any way, my freezer is now full - I have Filet mignons, chophouse centers, steak burgers, strips, Delmonico steaks and 2 cases of chicken breast will various seasonings. They are from Steakhouse Grill. Granted the quality is not going to be what you would get at a fine dining restaurant. It cost me (hold on!) $800.

I am now trying to justify what I did - on one hand my freezer is full and no one can say there is nothing to eat. We have an inside grill so we can grill in any weather and we do have an outside grill. I will not have to buy meat at the grocery store for a while. And part of me says I probably broken even on the cost.

On the other hand - I just spent $800! What was I thinking?? We like stuff from Schwans and this is probably comparable.

So now you can all call me stupid!!

I am of same opinion as Chriss. I can bring salads and variety of cheese from Québec (and maple syrup too) !!! :-)

If you think you got your money's worth, and you would have paid for it sometime, then what's the harm? Just eat and enjoy. Too late to change it, so let it go and eat!

I see nothing stupid in what you've done, just smart... I have found, when I do buy a lot, sometimes I get a yen for something not in the freezer, but you'll have that...
And as Chriss put it, Let us know when the party starts.....

If you 'broke even' then you'd have spent the same amount anyway, but you saved yourself the rum to the store. Many runs to the store, from the sounds of it! lol! Like Joan said, it's done, you can't undo it, so why stew about it now? Go back to basking in your farm's light, and relax, knowing you've got dinner all planned!

Well with steaks being almost $10.00 per pound, average it up and then just call yourself frugal. Not wasting the dreaded trip to the grocery store is worth it to me.

If your freezer is full of nice meat for $800, I'd say you got a good deal. I'm shocked at what a "bundle" of beef or mixed beef and pork costs here and how little is in them. I use a grill pan indoors. I don't have an outdoor grill. I used to have a JennAire grill on my stove, but that was several houses ago. I loved it and used it all the time. Now I use a grill pan.

Do be careful!!! I found out that there are a whole bunch of "friends" that come out of the woodwork once you are widowed and are only after your money.

I had some ex-preacher come and try to get me to fund some new church he wanted to open up and pay for a bunch of stuff. He left empty-handed. He was bi-polar and was in his manic stage and had all kinds of crazy ideas--all for widows to fund for him.
