Re: New Washer-Advice wanted
I have had a front loader for about 15 years. I had a Maytag in Oregon, and have an LG here in Maine. I like them both very much. One of the best features is the load size it can handle. If you have guests with a lot of sheets and towels you'll love it. My washer also has many different settings that I find very useful.
Here are the two drawbacks for me. Once you start it you only have a couple of minutes to stop it if you forgot to put something in you wanted in that wash. You can't open it mid cycle.
And secondly, you can't dye in it as you can a top loader.
That's my two cents worth.....

I've had both the HE front loader and top loader styles. I very much prefer my top loader. The front loader started smelling because they never really drain fully. I had to leave the door cracked at all times when it wasn't being run. And as mentioned, you can't open the door once it starts.
Since I got the top loader that is not longer an issue. There is no odor, it has lots of settings, uses less water and detergent and I can still pause it and add something if I need too.
Happy shopping!

I like the top loader. What put me there vs. the front loader when we got ours was the cost of a new seal for the front loaders... something like $500!!! My DH leaves nails, screws, etc., in his pockets that I forget to check. I could just see his overalls fasteners or screws, nails, etc., ruining a seal in a few months. I like my new HE top loader real well. (Kenmore brand)

I've had my front loaders for about a year now and I love it. The main factor for me was that I am so short (4' 10") that I could barely reach the bottom of the top loader standing on a stool. Needless to say we didn't get the bases, I can barely reach the top now!
I do agree about the odor problem but Tide makes a cleaner that I find I can use about every 3 months (they recommend every month)and still not have to leave the door open. I don't leave clothes in the washer tho for very long. Getting them into the dryer quickly helps too.
Mine (Sears) has all kinds of cycles and settings. I love the large capacity. I'm really happy my husband talked me into getting them.

And don't forget - many top loaders now have no agitator in them. Allows for a bigger load.

Re: New Washer-Advice wanted
We used to have a Maytag Neptune front loader. The day before hubby and I were going on vacation my son was doing his wash for work. The machine started acting up and finally stopped. BUT, it would not open no matter what we did. Hubby finally had to take a pry bar to the door to get it open. So we had to run to Sears and buy a new machine. A top loader. Just research which ever one you decide on. There is also a problem with mold because the amount of moisture in these machines.

We just bought a Electrolux wash/dryer. I researched them on line and they seem to be good machines. We've only had them a few weeks. When Sears repair man came out to fix our washer, he said not to by a Kenmore or LG. He said they are the same maker and the parts don't last. We only had our Kenmore 6 years. Lori
