White Family rotary treadle sewing machines help please

Post by quilter_1012 » Thu Apr 16, 2009 2:41 am

I purchased on Monday, a white FR treadle sewing machine for 30$ with attachments. Only needed to be cleaned and have a belt and a needle put on it. Well I did that, and (yes it has a original manual) I just need to figure out thread tension and I will be good to go. I have found some things are very advanced, numbers on the tension for example. Wow! For a 96yr sewing machine thats very good.
Anyway, I was wondering where would be the best place to get more attachments? I would like to get them all. Also a part diagram, I am trying to figure out what the two knobs on the top of the faceplate are. and I have already gone to sewingmachine221.bizland and treadle on.net
If it could be fairly inexpensive, I would like that, or general info
If anyone has attachments I'd be up for a swap!
Thanks

I ended up with a 1915 Singer treadle machine 2 years ago, woohoo, I just googled it [ I used the serial #] and found out alot about my machine, parts and manuals etc. Ebay might have some attachments also. Hope this helps.

I have quite a few old Singer machines, and I can use any low shank attachment. If you're looking for a walking foot, just make sure you get one for a straight stitch machine.

Enjoy your machine.

Fabricgirl/ Lois I used mine once, the foot action is something to get use to, and my stitches were real long, not sure how to adjust that, just need to sit and read the manual and figure it out, guess I am just spoiled with the computer machine, just sit down and sew, but I really would like to make a quilt with the treadle.

I think the two buttons on the face plate are for lowering and raising the dog feet. I seem to remember them on my grandmother's machine.

I've wanted a trendle sewing machine for ages - I was supposed to get my Grandmother's Singer (I remember playing on the trendle when I was *really* young), but one of my aunt's got it... *sigh* it's on my wish list!
