Re: Mother's Day
IowaGal - my mother died when I was 19 also. She died on Mother's Day 1970 so, needless to say, I do not like that day and would just as soon skip it. I have missed her terribly thru the years. You probably feel the same. We never really got to have an adult mother/daughter relationship - at least I didn't.

Re: Mother's Day
I will be getting an eight hour shift at work
I think I worked last year on Mothers' Day, too. Double
I agree with Iowa Gal, though, if you are kind and loving the other 364 days a year, or at least make an honest effort to be so, I won't mind so much if you don't fuss over me on Mothers' Day!
My birthday, OTOH, is a different matter!!

Re: Mother's Day
I will most likely work. My Mom passed away the day after my birthday in 2005 so this is only the second Mother's Day without her. Last year really **%@! so this year I think I will work and try to keep my mind off it. DH will probably send his Mom a card and with any luck my kids will remember and call. That's enough for me.

Re: Mother's Day
This Mothers Day will mark the 5th year anniversary of my own Mothers passing away. Thanks Mom, you picked a very special day!! I miss her everyday! I miss her sense of humor, her laughter, her smile, her warm hugs, and especially hearing her voice! She will always be in my heart!
My children make this day very special for me, I look forward to one day of not doing anything!!

Patsyann06 - we are in the same Mother's Day boat. IowaGal and I both lost our moms when we were 19 so we have that in common. What makes it bad and me sad is they start all the advertising for Mother's Day gifts 3 weeks before Mother's Day so I stay pretty down in the dumps for 3 weeks at this especially hard time of the year. I'm always so glad when MD is over.

Thanks cindyg, My Mother always said, missing your mother is timeless, no matter what age you are! My Mom lost her Mother after her first yr. of marriage and so I never got to know her except through her eyes. Sharing memories of my grandmother, also helped my Mother. My own children don't really understand why I hate some of these holidays!!! Don't like Fathers or Mothers Day, anymore!

Re: Mother's Day
I lost my mother eleven years ago this past March and you are right Cindyg, those commercials really tear at your heart. I hate watching all those, what will you give your mother for mothers day ads, they just seem to reinforce the sense of loss. I would so much love to have my mother around once more, we enjoyed so many of the same things. She was not as addicted to sewing or quilting as I am, but she did enjoy making gifts for her grandchildren. My daughters have sunbonnet sue quilts and I have a lap quilt with appliqued butterflies that she made about 2 years before she died. I don't know what we will do for Mother's Day but my girls usually call me or come by to visit and DH grills something for dinner.

Patsyann06 - your mother was right, missing your mother is timeless. I miss my mother every day and it's been 37 years.
