SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Oct 13th
Good morning,
Today is Friday the Thirteenth and I have a (mostly) black cat on half my lap as I type this. The computer is balanced on the other half. It's also my grandson, Drew's, 30th birthday! Gosh, those years have really flown by!
Yesterday's applesauce didn't happen. All the apples were starting to rot inside when I cut into them. So they got tossed back into Vicki's woods for the critters to feast on. They aren't so discerning as we are. Then I went to clean my sewing room, got into organizing all the projects I've been kitting up and making some sewing/packing lists. I think I have enough to keep me busy! lol! 3 hand and 9 machine projects! I need to remember to pull a little Christmas fabric, too, on the off chance that I get Amara's stocking finished while we're in TX. I need lining, backing, and ribbon for the hanger. Today will be grocery shopping and laundry. When I get both of those done, I have a little packing to do for our camping trip to the ocean. We leave Sunday afternoon right after Seahawks game. Normally we don't like our annual ocean trip to be quite this close to leaving for TX, but our off season senior pass doesn't kick in until Oct 1 and we got the earliest rezzie we could. It's $10/night instead of $45 so it's worth it! Plus, we're leaving for Texas about 10 days earlier than usual.
BECCA - the bus is a nice way to get around. Do you have to pay or is it a courtesy supplied by where you live? Our old friends, Warren & Lois, had to pay exhorbitant fares so friends and family took them where they needed to go. Chicken quesadillas and refried beans sounds like a great supper! I hope it was good.
TINA - That's a nice service - grocery delivery. Do you have Dad's groceries delivered to him? I'm sure hoping Frankie can resusitate your vehicle. If he can't then no one can! We watched the Bronco game last night. I hope you were able to keep Frankie's head out of the oven! What has Denver done to Russell Wilson??? How is the Christmas sewing coming along?
LORI - when do you leave for your retreat? Have you gotten everything ready that you plan to take? I always try to take an extra project in case I run sort of something to do. When I was in school - St. Leo's Catholic school all 12 years - we had a full kitchen and 3 lunch ladies who cooked everything on site, from scratch. It was great! But usually, though, I had to take my lunch (and save my waxed paper and lunch bag for the week!).
The other night we watched a news segment on food borne illnesses. It said most of them came from poor handwashing by the preparers in commercial and home kitchens. Also from not sufficiently sanitizing utensils, surfaces, sinks. It made me think of all the times we had the "24 hr stomach flu" as kids. It explained a lot!
Tonight is supposed to be a nice evening, almost 70* so we're going to grill pork chops out on the deck. I think we'll also toss a split sweet potato on the grill and have a salad.
What's the plan at your house?

Tina, I had my dads groceries delivered once and was not happy. I order his groceries online Sunday night then pick them up Monday morning. They bring them out to the car. It's a nice service, and saves me a little time. I bring them in and put them away for them.
Mary, I bet the segment on food borne illnesses was interesting. It's amazing how so many people don't wash their hands. Such a simple thing to prevent so many problems. First thing I do when I walk in the house after being somewhere, is wash my hands. During covid people were more diligent, but have gone back to their lax ways again. Sounds like you are almost ready with your projects for the trip. You probably won't be sewing as much this trip. I imagine you'll be hanging out with the little miss a lot. She is going to be so much fun.
Becca, quesadilla is one of my go to meals. Easy and fast.
Well I did not get my projects together yesterday. I don't know what happened, but I'll try again today. I need to do a little cleaning prior. Last night my friend and I went out line dancing. She picked me up just before 7pm. I'm usually winding down my day by then. lol We had a fun time and I got to try out a few dances I learned. We'll be going to class again tomorrow to learn some more. It's really fun.
Dinner will be grilled chicken, potatoes, and zucchini.
Have a lovely day.

Good Morning!
I have had a busy week. I am teaching a beginner quilting class with a couple of other Guild members on Saturday. Last night we heard Dr. Moogega Cooper speak at Long Beach as part of Distinguished Speaker Series. She works at Cal Tec on the Mars Rover program. She keeps the Earth's microbes here on Earth and Mars free from them. She was a fascinating speaker.
Maryz - I think Lori may be right about your having time to sew away from Amara. You get to babysit! Yeah!! Glad you are preparing kits though. Wasn't it last year you ran out of projects to sew?
Lori - Line dancing sounds like fun! I packed for a class yesterday. I need to clean and oil the machine I am bringing to class today. The class is tomorrow and since I am teaching someone else will be using the machine.
Becca - I think that is great that you can take a bus over to the store. Is the bus run by Assisted Living place or is it Public Transportation? If it is a service provided by Assisted living place, it will be a good way to meet others. Glad you had a good time yesterday!
I have clean bathrooms, sheets on the line, towels in washer and bed has been changed. The dishes need to be washed and I have a couple of floors that need cleaning. DH has a lunch to go to for his former boss. She is retiring. I will have a couple of hours by myself. Yesterday I made 15 bean soup and today I think I will make Vegetable Soup.
Dinner will be Vegetable Soup. DH will have had a big lunch.
