SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Sept 21st

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Sep 21, 2023 5:37 am

Good morning,

It's a brrrr-y morning out there - 48*! Which is why I'm in here!! Last evening was chilly, too, so we stayed in and built a fire instead. I think summer is over.

Yesterday I worked on Lemur. This is quite a project. Had a few problems at first plus I found a misprint in the directions which didn't help me at all. Talked to the company about that. But I finally figured things out and now I have 1-1/2 blocks finished! Only 18-1/12 more to go. Today though, Bill wants to go to the fair. So not much sewing today. We'll be gone all day clear up until the dog's suppertime.

LORI - they are predicting a hard winter for us, too. Though "hard" is all relative, I guess. This means we may or may not get a few inches of snow. Possibly even twice! And more rain, of course.

BECCA - your painted purses are so pretty! You have a great talent! Where did your friend get these little purses? What sweet little gifts. Do you need to coat them with anything to keep them from peeling or cracking or are they good to use as is?

TINA - you've really set yourself up with quite a Christmas to-do list! But if all the blocks are already made, then it should go quickly. Seems like you made the kids (not grands) big Christmas quilts last year, didn't you?

CAROL - no Christmas fabric?? Oh no! I love Christmas fabrics! I have quite a bit and I couldn't lift or even pull the big tote so I divided it up by colors into smaller totes I got at Costco, about the size of big shoeboxes. I have 11 of those little totes. I love Christmas sewing! :D Sounds like you are all ready to hit it hard and heavy today with the quilting. We've found our Nolting LA loves Magnifico thread from Superior. We buy it by the cone in mostly neutral colors.

JANA - sometimes I have to hit Submit twice to get my message to post. I don't know why. Did you get your star quilt finished? Is that the one you were talking about loading onto the frame?

So, not much sewing for me today. Maybe a little before and after my 7:45 walk. Today will be all about the fair. Mostly, I love looking at the quilts. And strolling through the cow barns which takes me back to my childhood. Not sure how my back and hips will hold out but we're going to find out.

Supper tonite will be leftover chili. It was really good last night. What we don't eat tonite will be going into the freezer in two serving Ziplocks and laid flat.

What will you be having tonite?

I was intimidated to put them on
They are not for gifts Just doing them for fun & relaxation She got the bags at Michaels she said many years ago

Maryz I haven’t put anything on the purses yet for protection I used to put a sealer on my rocks but Don’t know what to put on cloth My friend here said she took an iron & wax paper but I’m afraid that will ruin my iron Any suggestions appreciated
Oh how I loved to look at the displays at the Fair I won’t get to go this year

It will be scrambled eggs and ham or bacon Whatever they bring Nothing on choices I liked Guess I’m too picky or eat different Justvused to my own way of cooking Lol Becca

Becca, you can buy a liquid that will protect and seal the paint on fabric. Check with an art store supply.

Mary, how was the fair? Did you see lots of great crafts?

I had a sew day with my friendship group today. It's always nice to sit and sew and chat.

Dinner was baked potatoes with chilli on top.

Sleep well.

Becca -

When I have painted on fabric, I mixed in each of my colors a product called Textile Medium or Fabric medium. When the paint dried on the fabric , the fabric stayed soft, not hard where I painted. I used a brown paper bag to set the finished painted project with my iron. The paper bag protected my iron from the paint. I used liquid acrylic paints. Mostly the brand, Ceramcoat. It's been awhile since I did much painting. Oh, I used a piece of cardboard covered with plastic wrap to protect the wrong side from the paint soaking through to anything it may touch.

Hope that helps

Good Evening,

Maryz - I hope you enjoyed the day at the fair! Please tell us about the quilts you saw.

Lori - A nice day with friends always is good! Hope you got lots done too.

Becca - We had a coolish day at 72 degrees here. The mornings have been getting to high 50s-low 60s. So much cooler than most Septembers.

This evening we had Speaker Series and tonight was Goldie Hawn. She supports a charity for children's mental health called mindup.org. Unfortunately, she did not talk about the organization but about her own career. I did not watch Laugh-in nor Private Benjamin. I am definitely not star struck! Next month's speaker sounds really good.

Dinner tonight was leftover Linguini with garden Vegetables for DH and Vegetable Soup for me.

Mary, yes, I made my grown kids bed size Christmas quilts 2021 Christmas. How was the fair?
Becca, it's nice for someone to cook for you every once in awhile but I'm like you, if rather cook for myself.
Lori, your sewing day sounds like fun.
Jana, cardboard in between sounds like a good idea too.
Carol, I've like some of the movies Goldie Hawn has been in. She doesn't do many appearances these days but she was in Christmas Chronicles as Mrs Clause.
We had tacos for supper.
I had to do a lot of frogging, ugh. I finally am 2 seams away from this top being finished.
