SUPPER CLUB - Wed, July 19th

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Jul 19, 2023 6:21 am

Good morning,

Foxy didn't come in last night. I woke up at 3:30 and he wasn't on the bed and I couldn't go back to sleep for worrying about him. So I finally got up, turned on all the outside lights and waited and called. He finally showed up at 4:30, wanting his breakfast, and not a word of explanation of where he'd been! Bad cat to worry his mom like that!

Yesterday was grocery shopping and one more batch of jam - strawberry again. Now I'm done until the blackberries get ripe next month. By the time I got the kitchen all cleaned up again, I had little sewing time left. Today, I'll be making macaroni salad and a chocoloate torte for BBQ with the grandboys tonite. I better remember to hide those shirts! Right now they are out in plain sight.

LORI - congratulations to "us" on "our" quilt!! Chickie, too! I think her block was the one with the colord 'sticks' kind of criss-crossing each other. Her own design. I bet it was a luxury for your dad to go get a shave. But you know, that 5-day stubble look is "in". Maybe he just wants to be trendy. And yes, I bet you would have enjoyed my mom. Back in the 1930's she was cook in a logging camp with two toddler boys. My dad was "bull buck" (the boss). One of the guys on the crew kept coming by their cabin every evening and staying for hours. She got tired of it so she made him a cup of cocoa and laced it with X-lax! She said he eventually made a quick departure and never came back!

BECCA - what a bummer about the dryers! I hate when that happens. There's nothing wrong with wearing clothes a few days in a row to cut down on laundry! We use laundromats in Texas and had a tension shower rod above our shower in our old trailer to hang damp clothes. That didn't work in our new trailer so Bill just installed a towel rod in the ceiling! Nice of you to want to take your friend out for her birthday. Yesterday was also my late hubby's birthday. In fact, I heard of about 4 people who had birthday's yesterday. Bill's is tomorrow. 75! He doesn't know it yet but we're meeting our good friends, Tex & Annette, at a Mexican restaurant in Port Orchard, next town north of us. I hope you see those baby squirrels soon! Get a picture if you can! I've never seen a white squirrel.

CAROL - glad you got those rezzies straightened out! Sleeping in your car is no fun! Good news your teeth are all clean now. We don't have dental insurance and we get 5% discount for paying cash. The insurance we looked at way back when was more expensive than our dental bills! Besides, I'm a dental weenie and I won't go to another dentist until I'm forced to. Bill gets his cleanings here but if he needs any work done he goes to a dentist in Algodones, Mexico, across the border from Yuma. She's quite good and he's been going to her for 16 years. Last crown he got was $200. Fillings are now about $50.

JANA - bad news for Sarah about the Trains sale - She will be here on the weekend I believe, and the store isn't open on Sun or Mon. Plus, the sale doesn't start until Aug 8. But, their regular prices are still in the $9-$10 range . . . We won't give them any food but will offer them the treat of our company!

TINA - great news about Jaz's car! I have no doubt she is very excited! I remember my first car - I bought it used for $600 when I was 19. A 1964 Impala. Sure wish I had that classic today! And yes, wouldn't a barn like your family's be fun! We have our big shop and have cleared it out once or twice for family reunions, too, but it sure doesn't have the same ambiance as your barn!

Well, I think y'all know we're having burgers on the grill tonite - macaroni salad, corn on the cob, and a chocolate torte. We'll have a campfire, eat peanuts, and just enjoy our boys while we catch up on their lives and celebrate birthdays. Drew texted that he has some good news to share with us so we're excited to hear. I think he is getting a new job, but we'll see.

What are you enjoying for your supper tonite?

Mary, yes, chickie did the chop sticks.

Tina, that is so great that Jazmyne is working on the car. What a great thing to learn. The butterfly pattern is from Edyta Sitar. I didn't buy the pattern, just looked at the pictures. I have the Accuquilt die for the butterflies, and the stems. It was fun and not to difficult to figure out.

Carol, where will you be staying? I'm thinking about an Airbnb or Vrbo.

Jana, cooking differently take a little time. I'm sure you'll have it into your normal routine in no time. Using different seasonings for flavoring is a trial and error process.

Becca, how was the French toast? As good as it sounded?

I got the shopping done and the boys have been walked. I pick up Bill from OC airport at 1230. So after that I will attempt to make a sample Christmas block.

Dinner will be grilled chicken, potatoes, and broccoli.

Have a lovely day.

Lori - we stay at the Travel Lodge. Right next door to Convention Center. They usually do not charge for Parking not sure this year. We book through the Road website.

Sorry we are staying at the Double Tree. I have more trouble remembering the name of the hotel! lol

Dinner tonight will be Bean and Barley Soup.

Carol
