SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, June 18th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Jun 18, 2023 5:37 am

Good morning,

Wishing a happy Father's Day to all the dads, step-dads, and dad figures in our lives and remembering the ones who are now loving memories. 💗

It's going to be a chilly, rainy day here so we are staying home. Bill asked for spaghetti so I'll be making that along with Flo's meatballs. She was kind enough to post her recipe in the recipe thread here in Chit Chat. I will also make an apple pie. I'll make the crust from scratch but I'm going to cheat and use canned filling. Peeling apples anymore is a painful process for my hands and I'm saving my hands for sewing and cross-stitching.

Yesterday I finished up the 12" Oct OWL block and plan to start the 3 little blocks today. Too cold and wet to work outside, but by Wed next week, temps will be back in the 70's and heading towards 80's so no complaints here about today's 'refreshing' weather!

JANA - So smart to do the painting and carpeting first! And have time to get the kitchen and bathrooms cleaned and set up, too, which will make moving day(s) so much easier. If they can find all their kitchen stuff after all this time in storage! I always loved moving and setting up a new house, but last time I moved I was 35 yrs old. At 72, it might not be the fun I remember!

TINA - hi! Bye! Whoosh!

BECCA - Lasagna sounds like a tasty choice. Was it? And do you have to let the kitchen know on days you will be going somewhere else for supper?

CAROL - with all you do and you still have time to read! Go, You!! What kind of books do you like to read?

LORI - I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who just doesn't want to cook some days. Your project sounds interesting! And what is the Bernie stitch that worked for stitching batting pieces together without puckering?

I did find some veggie beef soup in the freezer left over from who knows when. I dumped it into a pan and let it thaw and heat over the wood stove last night while we had a glass of wine and watched the news. Voila`! Supper! And I got fancy and "baked" some Pillsbury crescent rolls, too. I'm such a gourmet cook!   But tonite, I'll be pulling out all the stops with my spaghetti and meatballs. Even garlic bread.

What's your plan for tonite?

Good morning everyone!
Today we are to hit 99° yucky!
We got up just after 6, had to set an alarm LOL Kevin brought Matthew and they picked Frankie up and are stopping for Easton, they are going to play their annual Father- Son and now grandson golf. Easton loves to play, Matthew is just along for the ride 🥰
Holly will be bringing lunch and I'm going to make a pecan pie. Dad is going to church and they usually have a Father's Day meal but I'll check with him after so I can see if he's coming here for lunch or not, supper for him is at my brother's because it's their night. I'll be taking his gift over this afternoon if he doesn't come over at lunch.
Mary, your supper last night sounded yummy and very comfort food and comfort atmosphere ❤ I did whoosh through yesterday huh LOL I thought it was better to whoosh than forget to stop in 😁
Jana, that's a good idea for them to get all the cleaning and carpet done before moving in, it'll make moving in so much better.
Becca, I like how you can order your supper the night before..... maybe I should put my request outside my door and see if it happens 🤔😉😂🤣
Carol, 2 books! Wow, you must read really fast! I try to pace myself reading a few chapters a day because it makes my eyes go wonky and I have double vision if I read too long LOL I get really engrossed in books.
Lori, I just use that iron on tape stuff to connect batting, is sewing it together easy?
Well I fixed Frankie scrambled eggs for breakfast, he's not a big breakfast person but I told him playing golf for 4 hours he should eat some protein so he did..... he doesn't eat cereal at all. I was raised on cereal for the most part for breakfast LOL weekends were when we got the extra good stuff; pancakes Saturdays and eggs Sundays with all the fixins.
I need to see if Dad's eating at my brother's, if not I'll fix him something special here like a steak. We'll probably have steak, baked potatoes and salad if the dirt isn't blowing... Frankie only likes steaks cooked on the grill and that can't happen if we have dirt.

Happy Father's Day!

Maryz - A very nice picture of you relaxing while soup was warming on the wood stove. I was thinking of Spaghetti tonight as well. I will ask DH. I finished two books. I am reading the Amanda Flower Series of books about an Amish Candy Maker. It is a cozy mystery series.

Tina - Your DH, son and grandsons have a great tradition. It seems to me that it gives you some time off too especially if your brother takes your Dad to Lunch. Hope the wind is not blowing.

Lori - You sound like you had a busy Saturday.

I will be making an omelet for breakfast with biscuits and a fruit salad. We have Mass later in the morning then I will be sewing. Dinner tonight I think will be Spaghetti, Salad and Garlic Bread.

Carol

Tina, I use the Iron on stuff too, but sometimes I run out and this worked really well.

Mary, sounds like the perfect dinner last night.. Easy.

I bought a cherry and lemon meringue pie for dessert tonight. We'll be having grilled steaks and potatoes for dinner.

Happy fathers day to all the dads today.

Have a lovely day.

Lori 8-)
