SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday Feb 28

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Feb 28, 2023 7:07 am

Good morning,

The last day of the month - again! But the good news is spring is only 3 weeks off! Think daffodils, butterflies, and blue skies. 🐝🦋🌷🌞

Yesterday was a sew day here. I finished 8 lotto blocks and then started playing with my crazy quilt blocks again. I forgot how addictive this project can be. It's quite fun. I've been working off/on for 3 or 4 years on this and I'm about 1/3 done. It will be a king sized coverlet (no batting) for our bed when I'm done. And it eats up scraps faster than any other scrap busting project I've ever done. So, for this week anyway, this is my project.

BECCA - a busy week ahead of you! Part of me loves moving (though last time I moved I was only 35 yrs old. It might be different now at 72!) It's exciting setting up a new house. But another part of me gets homesick for old house and old life. I'm with you in spirit!

CAROL - oh, I'm not touching DH's stuff in his office. I'm only dealing with the piles of stuff I'VE stashed in there to get it out of the way. lol! He never complains. To be honest, I doubt he even notices! Glad you got your medical stuff done. I think my mammo will be sometime in May. It gradually moves through the year because of insurance - always has to be at least a year after last one.

JANA - I think we would love your kitchen sink chili here! And you were thoughtful enough to include the 'recipe'! lol!

Today will be cleaning up the last of all the leftovers. I've been eating split pea soup for breakfast for 3 days! I love having leftovers but enough is enough! I'm starting to crave tacos so I'm focusing my taste buds on tomorrow.

Good late morning from a semi dreary, chilly, SW. Pa...But, we have no snow and I think Pennsylvania set a record this month for having the least amount of snow since way back in the 1800s....We always have a huge snow fall around the 15th, Jim's birthday, and he's say, he could never go to his Grandma's for cake because they were snowed in....But, we still have March and that's always a possibility, especially around the 17th....
I was here yesterday, started writing and then the phone rang and never got back to it....And now, I'm waiting for another call from 1 of the doctors...I've been recording my BP and they aren't too happy and can't have anything else done until it comes down, quite a bit...Today, I'm to pick up a new RX and we'll go from there.....
Not really much happening in my neck of the woods...Just going through quilt magazines and books and tomorrow, I'm taking boxes of fabric and all the magazines to ladies who quilt at a church, not far away...Also will be asking them if they need yarn, lol....

Becca, I remember my moving days and it is a lot of work and boxes...One thing, Kathy told me to pick up boxes at the Post Office and they were great for small stuff and not too heavy to carry...Also got some padded envelopes to pack glasses or breakable stuff...So, we can't all be there to help but we sure are there in spirit...And as someone posted, take care of yourself!

Mary, The other day, you posted you had cleaned the whole house, except the office.....How does that feel to have it all done???I think that only happens here if I'm getting company that might stay over and they're never allowed to look in my computer/sewing/craft room....There are times I don't like looking in, lol....

Well, just got my phone call so need to run...I think I put more miles on my car just going back and forth to doctor offices and picking up RX......

I'm thinking, I might be having left overs myself....I also made chili (not as good as Jana's, I'm sure) and still have a few apple squares for afters.....

You all have a great rest of the day....

Happy eating.................

Good morning!

Mary - my kitchen sink chili is really simple - brown ground beef or turkey with chopped onions , season with salt, chili powder and cumin. Add 1 or 2 cans tomato sauce, a bit of water and 2 cans of pork n beans. Simmer for a few minutes, maybe 30, stirring to make sure it's not sticking to the bottom, every so often. Then add to your hearts content, frozen corn, sliced olives, and top with, sliced avocado, cheese, raw onions or green onions, or crushed Fritos corn chips or all of the above!. Serve over bed of rice. So I add the olives and corn to the chili. Then let everyone start with rice on the bottom, Then put on desired toppings. If you like chunks of tomatoes in your chili, add a can of diced tomatoes to the base mix. This chili even goes over polenta instead of rice. My polenta is cheesy too. So it's a easy recipe to make either small or larger. I also am a fan of Gebhardt's chili powder. Oh, if you want more spices add jalapeño. I don't. The base chili is good on hot dogs or hamburgers - I just make sure it's slightly thicker. This has been a go to recipe since I was a kid for chili. Questions gladly answered. There is really no set amounts, more by taste.

Dinner tonight is tacos - it's Tuesday! I have some leftover chili I'll use up, and I have some pink yummies that will be too. As well as regular taco meat.

Well, some shelves I bought were junk! Dust would make them fall down. So Daniel is designing me new shelves he'll build for me. Nice to have a architect in the house! He'll draw up the placement on the wall, staggered, etc then after my approval, he'll put the new ones up. They will be floating shelves so the fasteners are hidden.

Sarah is busy in her kitchen. Ran water this morning, including the garbage disposal. She's a happy camper! Still a couple of doors are arriving today and she is installing the LED under cabinet lights with Michael supervising. She can do that herself, but wants Dad's eyes to make sure she's right. The last cabinet that was broken will arrive tomorrow. It's a special cabinet that sits at the end side of her refrigerator and holds brooms, dustpan, cleaning stuff etc. This cabinet makes her refrigerator look like a built in.

Well, I'm off to wash a few more cabinets in my kitchen.

Hugs,
Jana

Good Afternoon,

Decided it was time my hands needed some attention of manicurist. Then went to Target to pick up prescription. Remember I went to eye doctor last week? She called in prescription for one of my drops. I had called in the prescription on the other one and that will be ready tomorrow.

Maryz - You will have your Crazy Quilt Coverlet on your bed soon. Are you adding embroidery? There was a show at an old house nearby about a year ago and the embroidery was beautiful. All sorts of bugs, butterflies and birds.

Becca - Hope you are having a productive day today. Take care.

Irish - Did you read that a piece of chocolate was recommended before taking your blood pressure by another person on the forum? I think bananas are also recommended but stay away from licorice. lol (I like licorice.)

Jana - Too many shelving units are made from pressed wood, and they do not hold up. Glad you have architects, electricians, engineers and woodworkers on hand to help you. Congratulations to Sarah on kitchen being done. Did you have to mention cleaning kitchen cabinets? I need to do mine.

I took the last couple of days off sewing so am ready to get back to it today.
Dinner tonight will be Parmesan Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Salad and Broccoli.

Carol
