SUPPER CLUB - Wednesday, March 2nd

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Mar 02, 2022 5:53 am

Good morning,

Ahh.... the first sip in the morning of a good cup of fresh coffee made with freshly ground french roast beans. The best part of waking up!

Our weather hasn't been so hotsy totsy this past week so lots of quilting has been done. Bill finished my Christmas swap quilt. I've trimmed it but still have to do binding. And we have another one ready to go on the frame, probably today. I'm still working on putting together all the donated blocks for QIAD Comfort Quilt mission. Only about 4 more tops to do. Got 1-1/2 done yesterday. I will finish up that last 'half' today and may set this project aside for a new one - My good friend, Susie, is having a breast biopsy next week. She has/had so many health problems and still keeps on smiling - and camping. She loves camping. And I've decided she needs a quilt, no matter what her bx results are. So I'm going to make her a North Star quilt by MSQC from white and florals. It will be fun to start a new project again. Pulling fabrics is my favorite part of a new quilt - and making that first block.

CAROL - I'm trying awfully hard to push that pineapple express further south. We have ducks swimming on our back lawn!

JANA - I've never had chili over rice. Over baked potatoes, noodles, and even scrambled eggs, but never rice. I will have to try that one day. Fun to have a new cookbook and a local author to boot, But chocolate mint cake? How would that be green? Wouldn't the color of the chocolate dominate any food coloring? A Baltimore Album is a great idea for a travel project except the stitches are tiny and exact and definitely not work for the Alaska Highway. I've been this route many times and I know the road. It can be pretty rough in spots. This is why I've been thinking of things that are easier to stitch - hexies, yo-yo's, etc. You have reminded me though, that a B.A. is on my bucket list and I've even had a pattern for about 15 years. But the pattern isn't thrilling me so here it sits. Maybe one day it will.

VELDA - thank you! That RWB quilt would look good on our RV sofa - if we had one. We gave the sofa away and put in two small recliners instead. So only of us gets the quilt. lol! But we have other small quilts and blankies, too, so no one gets chilly! That supper must have been tasty! I hate when that happens - you bring home the leftovers and they go *POOF*!

MARY ROSE - I've never heard that ham is supposed to soften beans. Flavor, yes. I've used leftover pork roast, kielbasa, and chicken. I don't know why beef wouldn't work. But about beans - I've heard that salting them at the beginning of cooking will make them hard. And I've heard that NOT salting them at the beginning of cooking will make them hard. I'm wondering if anyone here has thoughts on that? And I have much better luck with beans if I use the quick soak method (bring to boil 2 min and then let sit for 1 hr) than if I do an overnight soak.

BECCA - you have some nice temps coming your way! And a lot of chores! How often does your Tina come? It's coming around to chore day again here. Soon. Maybe even today. But probably not. And I'm with you - how do two people make such a mess? We blame it on the dog. And the cat does his share, too, I'm sure! Maybe you should get a dog and/or cat. You can blame a lot of things on them! lol!

Well, yesterday Bill voted for the soup, so we had that and Red Lobster biscuits. And as usual, there is plenty left over. But tonite we'll probably have the leftover ham/potato/broccoli/cheesy thing. And then soup tomorrow night. But I've still got chicken fajitas on the back burner - so to speak.

What's on YOUR burner for tonite?

Good morning! I finally remembered to come back! I was here early again. Now after shower and first coffee and my daily Bible study, I remembered to pick up my phone again.
Oh, Mary, I had to chuckle about blaming things on our pets! Our dogs got blamed all the time. It lightened the discussion and laid blame to the innocent and avoided pointing the finger at each other. Our dogs never knew the difference and we could then laugh instead of being mad. LOL 😃
I love your idea for your new project. What a wonderful thing to do for a friend!
I ended up doing ham slices last night along with lots of yummy vegetables and a few waffle fries in my new Air Fryer.
Tonight I am helping to serve Lenten Supper at church before services. ( Our Ladies Group is in charge, and we are having Taco Bar) Make your own taco or taco salad. DH is going to have a sandwich and chips and then join me in time for church service.
Well, time to get to my sewing room. I am doing still another "cross" theme lap quilt. As long as we are still using up yards and yards of the African fabric, I guess this will be the theme. I just keep changing colors.
Here is the one I am putting borders on now:

Image

I am using a fussy cut applique on the cross. The yardage of fabric becomes the backing. I try to find fabric in the project room with the colors that go with the African fabric.
Also I have made
Several of the Adult size bibs to give out as the need presents itself. Not sure how many we need to have finished and available. I am hoping that others will join in making some, since they are so easy to put together.
I better quit being so Gabby today.
Have a great day!
HUGS, 💕 Vel

Mary, yes the Plumeria is what I did for my class. I'll put it away for now and finish it later.
The class was a lot of work. I didn't make the mashed cauliflower, but I've had it at a restaurant before, and love it. Very little difference from potatoes. I have never made a Cathedral window quilts, but I don't think you put batting in the folder over.

Vel, I like you quilt. Sewing for others is always wonderful.

I sewed with the friends yesterday. Always a fun time. Today I think I'll go look at sewing machines.
Mine has not been right since they serviced it and then tried to correct issues 5 times last year. I'm so disappoint about it not working right. So I'm considering a Bernina. I'll go check them out. I did like the little one I had before.

Dinner will be chicken and something.

Have a lovely day.

Mary, the fat off the meat is what helps tenderize the beans. I just wasn't sure about the beef flavor because I have never used beef in the cooking process.
There are 3 things I have done/not done where my beans didn't soften. One was not using any fat/shortening in them, adding cold water instead of hot/warm water once the liquid started evaporating. (The cold water causes the cooking process to stop just like it does when you are blanching vegetables in preparation to freeze), and the beans are old. (Beans do last for a very, very long time, but there comes a point where they are beyond cooking). I never had a problem with the salt issue.

Good afternoon!

We went out on a scavenger hunt this morning. Found most of what we wanted. A few things missing- Club Crackers have not been in stock anywhere for awhile. Got it put away and fixed brunch. Tomorrow is a quick run to Costco for milk and strawberries. Senior hours. Shortly our Costco will open here in Herriman and it will be a lot closer.

Dinner will be - wait for it - tortilla soup - the ingredients always jump in my basket when he goes shopping with me. At the end of the week will be a full blown turkey dinner. I have had a small one in the freezer and it needs to be used.

Mary - that will be a beautiful quilt for your friend. Bill will gets lots done quilting, your weather is supposed to stay nasty for awhile longer.

The vague time frame for Daniel's arrival is 4th of July. Could be sooner, could be later. The middle bedroom of my three, will be theirs to use. The other bedroom is Michael's upstairs office and there is room in there to put a twin bed for Karlie. A bit of rearranging, but we can make one fit. I have a frame - headboard and footboard, just need a mattress. The major problem to find space for is Karlie's huge collection of stuffed animals! Daniel feeds this collection all the time! Daniel is staying with us for awhile, watching and wa for the housing market to crash, which it will.

Time to scoot,
Hugs,
Jana
