SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, Jan 2nd

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Jan 02, 2022 4:58 am

Good freezing, windy morning!

Yesterday we were 80*, a little too warm for me, but this morning we were 30* with 15 mph winds. An hour later we're 26* and even higher winds! Not a wonderful travel day. We're in no hurry to hit the road.

Yesterday was a nice day with "Aut-onio". Get it? Autumn and Antonio? (They did that, not me. ) But it does help solve those slip of the lip moments! Dinner was good and she liked her birthday presents. I got some cross-stitching in before they arrived and finished an audiobook while doing it. The next section of our Texas "Odd-yssy" will be spent in Donna, Texas on the southern border near Mission and McAllen. Two couples of good friends will also be there. One of them just told us yesterday that she has bronchitis. She did go to ER, got tested (neg) and diagnosed. But it's still concerning. We're being extremely careful about Covid but we don't want bronchitis or flu or anything else either! And the RV park down there is so social with potlucks, concerts, dances, classes, etc. And the pictures our friends keep sending us of these events show no one wearing masks. So I'm not too excited about the next few weeks.

TINA - is everything all cleaned, dusted, washed, mopped, waxed, polished, and vacuumed now? Whew! I'm tired! Don't feel bad about what you found under your curio cabinet. We all have "curio cabinets" in our lives! You wouldn't believe what all we found under our stove last summer when we had our kitchen floor done! Acckkk!! Embarrassing!

CAROL - oh, small stippling can be exhausting. Even with our LA I try to do it in segments over several days. When is Road to CA? I guess I could look it up . . . Sounds like your sis really does need to hire someone - if she or her DD can find a person. Seems no one wants to work these days.

MARY ROSE - what fun to play with your new machine! I'm sure a good name will come to you soon. What did you decide to take to your sick co-worker's house for dinner? I always think a chicken/rice/broccoli/cheesy casserole is a good choice.

BECCA - I hope you are able to stay out of that leafy ditch today! Another job to be hired out! Did you get started on your new embroidery?

LORI - I think I read that book - The Chevarini book. I've read most of her books some time back. I really like Mary Daheim, Monica Ferris, Laura Levine, J A Jance, among others a lot. And Anne George who only wrote 8 books before she passed away. Did you tell us what you are embroidering and I forgot? Sometimes we need a break from our sewing machines to recharge - or would that be "re-oil" - our creative quilting juices.

JANA - big doin's at your house, for sure! Aaron's new job, Ethan's new age, De-decorating, and company cleaning! You're not a bad housekeeper! I wash my kitchen cabinets about once every 4 or 5 years, if that's any measure. But I do dust the pictures on the walls every couple of months. (You DID dust the pictures, didn't you??) lol! I hope Crenda's in-laws are nice.

VELDA - yes, the house does look bare once Christmas is put away. But it also looks clean! Takes a few days to get used to it. Or maybe I'm just not used to a clean house! lol!

We have just enough linguini, salad, and garlic bread left from yesterday for our supper tonite. I sent the cake home with "Autonio". But we'll see how things go today. We have 350 miles to go but with the wind and freezing temps we're in no rush to get underway. It will be a 7 or 8 hour drive. It will be nice not to have to cook a new dinner at the end of the road.

What's bubbling in your pot tonite?

Good morning!
Maryrose, my vote for a name is Crystal! I think lasagna, enchilada casserole and baked chicken and rice in 13x9 pans would be good to take to families.... if it's just 2 people you can do 8x8 pans, 1 for your house and one for theirs.
Mary, we're 18° right now! 🥶🥶🥶🥶 I say if the wind is blowing like that just stay put another night where you are. Your new destination doesn't sound so good during a pandemic, wear a hazmat suit! 👩‍🚀 When we put the new stove in ours was yucky under it too. Today I'll finish up the cleaning, I figured that I might as well deep clean everything I can all at the same time. It's keeping Frankie busy too since it's too cold to be outside, win win for me! He's been vacuuming off the tops of things that no way I can get up there! He's washing all the light covers too. So far he's not complained 🤞 The only time he said anything was NYE and he said maybe I should stop about 8pm because I'd been going all day and was going to get myself down. But we continued till midnight. Once I start cleaning I have to finish it.
Jana and Mary and anyone else, what do you use to wash/ clean your wood cabinet doors?
Well I have to cook tonight, we've been eating leftovers then frozen then a takeout and leftovers from it LOL guess the cook better come back since the maid is almost finished.
We're only supposed to get to 43° today so I think that calls for soup, maybe vegetable beef soup if I have everything.... if not it'll be another kind of soup.

Maryz - I vote for your staying put until the winds die down. I too would be reluctant to join a social group that didn't wear a mask. We mask for everything except outdoor walking. We are now wearing KN95 masks.

Tina - Murphy's Oil Soap in spray bottle works wonders on wood cabinets. When my brother and wife bought their first house he thought he would need to replace cabinets. I showed up on cleaning day with Murphy's Oil Soap wiped down the cabinets and he told me the cabinets wouldn't need to be replaced.

I am halfway through the stippling. I will continue today, but I really have a sore neck. I need to watch my posture!! Also need to take tree down today. Tuesday is the Board meeting so need to get the agenda out today to the Board and I also will be sending my weekly news to the Guild.

Tonight we will have ham and scalloped potatoes and coleslaw.

:D Good morning everyone. It's cold 🥶 here this morning, too.

Tina, Crystal is a fantastic name. So far it's two for two for naming her Crystal. I hope others will join in on the fun.

Mary the final decision for supper last night was chicken noodle soup. That's what will be on tonight's menu as well. My coworker's wife said the doctors have him on a ventilator right now. Due to the scar tissue that has developed he will have a 50/50 chance when they take him off the ventilator. So far the ventilator is doing all his breathing.

May God keep us, and our family and friends safe from this horrible affliction.

Mary/Rosebud

Good afternoon!

My house is all put together for company this afternoon. We are friends with Crenda's parents, but don't see them often. So I can now sit and be lazy. I even baked a batch of cookies. They look ugly but taste OK. I am beginning to think I should retire from cooking! Crenda is bringing out dinner for us and them tonight. Her parents won't be here for that. Just us. I have no idea what it will be, but Crenda is a very good cook.

Tomorrow will possibly start the de-decorating . If I use the current totes, then I'll start. If we get new, it will wait.

Next month we will start looking for carpet. I have a specific decorating look that will get done, just have to bring Michael on board tomy way. We use those furniture sliders all the time! I have many different sizes and they are wonderful. It's just where to put all that stuff, so the carpet area is free and clear for the new carpet. The job will have to be done in several days/stages. Michael has said we might paint first, so that will change the plan. We will call our handyman for that. And Sarah is putting down the floor, vinyl tiles, snap together, in the basement before she starts sod season again. Busy busy busy around here.

Time to scoot,
Hugs,
Jana

Jana, Jonathan put carpet in the front room prior to selling his house. It took 3 months for them to get it and install. Hope it's faster for you.

Mary, 80 sounds wonderful, but I don't like wind. We got up to 65 today with sunny skies. It was wonderful.

I finally started to sew again. I have a kit that has 30 2 1/2 inch sawtooth stars. Oh what fun this will be.
I cut all the pieces, but they are so small it's way too hard to sew them. So I figured out the size, and am doing El's method with a regular ruler. So much easier. These are crazy small.

I also cut out some 56 inch squared to go with a couple of charm packs. Will make HST's and put it together for a charity quilt.

Dinner will be cereal. I'm busy sewing again.

Have a lovely evening.
