SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, Dec 19th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Dec 19, 2021 4:34 am

Good morning,

We were rainy and breezy a while ago and will be off and on through the day. We're meeting Autumn and Antonio for early dinner today and then on to a luminary walk at some gardens in downtown Austin. This is an event she bought tickets for and she says they will space out their 'walkers' because of Covid. Hardly anyone wears masks here except us. But until it's time for our walk, I will probably sew another quilt top and Bill will finish a movie he was watching yesterday.

JANA - Always a tricky bridge to cross - that Santa legend. I'm not sure our kids were very happy with our explanation, which was much like "Santa is very real - the embodiment of the spirit of Christmas". And such a funny story about the Desitin and the kitty. Well, not too funny for the kitty, I guess. But so typical of what kids get up to.

BECCA - glad CA is a bit better today. I was worried about him yesterday but my concern and good wishes got lost in my disappearing post.

CAROL - so sorry about the frogging session you had. Been there, done that, feel your pain! I love rocky road candy. I made some before we left home but it's all gone now. It only lasted about 6 days and that's just because I told Bill hands off until we met up with my sister 4 days into our trip. lol!

TINA - you are certainly flexible with your menus! lol! In our family we have 4 vegetarians and one with medical dietary issues. And everyone wants different things - or different brands. Cooking for my crowd can be a nightmare. I don't even try anymore. The last time we got together we just told them to talk among themselves, pick a restaurant, and tell us when/where to be and then we picked up the check. Expensive but so much easier and worth it to me.

Tonite's supper will be at a Tex-Mex restaurant called Maudie's. We're meeting the kids. Not sure what we'll be ordering, but pretty certain it will be tasty!

What is making your taste buds go on alert tonite?

Good morning!
Jazmyne and Preston will be dropped off here pretty soon so I gotta hurry LOL
Easton just got up, so that puts me in double hurry, he'll want breakfast.
Mary, your garden walk sounds lovely, enjoy!
I'm flexible on food when it comes to spicy mostly, I won't make the kids eat chile, my brother and SIL make their grands and it drives me nuts! They weren't made to when they were little. Tonight will be the spaghetti since all the kids love it and it's an easy thing for me to make. I made soup last night and there's leftovers so I need to see if they want that for lunch or if they want to make their own pizzas.
I finished 3 aprons yesterday that I had started last Christmas but ran out of time so they got put away and I forgot about them until I was doing the stockings. My little tote is almost empty, just a set of very detailed Christmas applique placemats are left in there. Those won't be finished for this year. LOL
Easton wants me to make him an apron today so I need to see what I can come up with.
Well I better scoot, Easton is ready for breakfast.... he wakes up very hungry... he must burn up all his energy sleeping πŸ˜‰

Good morning! No, I didn't get lost! And I am not hiding in the closet. LOL
Just been busy. We had 4 events this week for music and dancing. And, I have had my nose in my sewing room working on my quilt for my sister-in-law. I am making two different color combinations of Dresdan Plate. She had eight dresses, so 8 choices for fabrics. I had a hard time doing the planning for wedges. I tried several different combinations.
Finally decided on making one with pink as the predominant color, and one in blue. Then I had to add a white wedge to each group. That worked! 4 colors, one white. 5x4 is 20. That's what I need for each plate. Then I had the problem with the center circle.
I had 12 circles cut, but didn't have enough contrast. I just didn't have the right look! I had so many precut circles in a stack to use in my church quilts. They are very plentiful, but I didn't know if there would be enough of one color. I found enough to make yellow circles, so I exchanged my circles with the yellow ones. We made a trade. πŸ˜‰ I didn't want to just use from the Church's fabric for my own personal projects, and I didn't want to just throw away the 12 circles I had cut, so a trade works well.
I will share a picture later when I start assembling the top.
Supper here is still up for grabs. I have lots of choices, but just not sure what I will do today.
Also, our church got cancelled and all activities until next week since our Pastor and secretary and secretary's husband all came down with COVID. Pastor is fully vaccinated, secretary was not, due to her being a cancer patient, as per advice of her doctor. I hope she is doing ok. I haven't heard any word about her condition. Pastor had Covid outbreak in his household about a month ago, and he didn't get it then. Feel so sorry that now, it caught up to him. Also heard he was pretty sick. 😞
Hope you all are staying safe.
I need to get busy sewing wedges together. πŸ€—
See you all again tomorrow.
HUGS, πŸ’• Vel

Happy Sunday everyone. Online Church service just ended. I figured if I was going to visit today, I'd better do it before starting anything else. Otherwise I may not make it back.
MaryZ - I am still working on the quilt and the documentation for it. The x- stitch photo is the only part that is completed.
Tina - Spaghetti sounds good and so does soup. I'm going to let the cat 😸 out of the bag. Stay close to help set Mary down so she doesn't fall over. (Hehehehe)

(Deep breath) Ok, here goes... After work Friday I gave in to myself. I stopped at one of our LQS and purchased my Christmas gift to myself. My gift to me is a Bernina 790 plus, Crystal Edition. I'm doing some cleaning and rearranging in my sewing room so I can get it set up.

Supper tonight πŸ˜‹ will be in the comfort food category, just haven't decided if it will be fried potatoes, eggs, and biscuits and gravy, or if I am going to put on a pot of beans and make fried potatoes and cornbread. Will see how time goes getting the kitchen cleaned up so I can cook πŸ™‚.

I am stopping by, first to say Congratulations! on the new Bernina. How exciting!!
And also to tell you all I ended up taking the last of the turkey breast from freezer, left from Thanksgiving. Cut it up and made creamed turkey with mashed potatoes. High on my DH's favorites list. Opened cranberry jel and made some fried apples for dessert. Hmmm! It was all delicious. I finished all 12 of my "plates". Fused them all to white background squares and began the applique process. That's the most boring step to me. It seems to take forever to get all the way around each one.
I got a bit distracted when I decided to practice which way to lay the blocks and decided the borders and how to piece the backing from more of the dress fabric.
Since the front will be pink and blue, I decided to cut blue squares and pink squares 12 1/2" squares to match the size of the Dresdan plates blocks. Then I will also do a border on the back as the front, just another different color fabric. Then the other leftovers can be used for binding.
I will get back to stitching the applique again tomorrow. Tonight is Christmas Movie night.
See you all tomorrow.

Good evening!

Sliding in here way late! Dinner is scrounge the cupboards and refrigerator. Michael is on his own. He won't starve and neither will I.

Neighbors have been stopping by with delicious wonderful yummies all afternoon. Homemade peanut brittle, there goes my diet! LOL! We have the Tabernacle Choir PBS Christmas concert on too. We have already watched it once, and can watch it many times, it's great! I even sing along, that you don't want to hear! LOL!

So much fun going on in your homes today - thanks for sharing- I love to hear of them, you add smiles to my day!

Hugs,
Jana

Jana, I saw that PBS was going to be showing the choir. I will probably check it out. They are a very talented group.

Vel, you have been crazy busy.

Maryrose, congrats on your new sewing machine. How fun for you.

Mary, luminary walks are fun. I went to one last June up in Paseo Robles. It was very pretty. Sounds like you keep Bill busy fixing things.

Tina, I love to make aprons and give them as gifts. I wear them when I cook.

I've been quilting up a Christmas quilt. It's been sitting on my machine for a few weeks.

Dinner will be leftovers.

Have a lovely evening.
