SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Feb 26th

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Feb 26, 2021 6:52 am

Good morning,

We're 39* and NOT raining! And the wind has died down. Definite improvement over yesterday! Our mountains were supposed to get up to 3 feet of snow in this round of storms. One of the biggest snow-packs in recorded history here. Will be good come summer, but a headache now. All our passes have been closed at the same time for over 24 hours more than once in the past few weeks which left the only way to get to Eastern WA is to go south to Oregon and along the Columbia. Most of the truckers choose to wait it out.

Anyhoo... Bill made it a busy day yesterday demolishing the bathroom. My living/dining room is now littered with bathroom parts and pieces - mirror, cabinet, drawers, towels, and the table is full of cans/bottles/tissues/TP, etc. You never know how much you have in your bathroom (or anywhere in the house for that matter) until you start packing it up. I was his lovely assistant who provided very little assistance, but I'm sure I looked good standing in the doorway, watching. And Foxy is very interested in all the action and the different stuff in his living room. He is poking his little pink nose into everything.

Dentist went well for me yesterday, but not so much Bill. He has cavity under a gold crown that needs repair - next Wed. That is bumming him out. So I promised him I would make him baked potato soup that day for supper.

Today is my good friend, Esther's, wedding anniversary. Her sweet husband passed away last March and because of Covid she still hasn't been able to have a service for him. I'm going to call her and see if she would like to have lunch or coffee today. Our restaurants are now open to 25% capacity and we've both had at least one vaccine so I believe we'll be safe. We met in a widow's support group in 1989 and bonded immediately. Both remarried few years later and have remained close friends ever since.

Not much sewing happening right now. Though I do have my tablerunner pieces all spread out on my work table . .

JANA - I hope you are feeling better today. You are absolutely correct when you say that feeling a bit crappy after an immunization is the body's way of letting you know the vaccine is working to build up antibodies. It is making the body an inhospitable host for germs. This is why a low fever when you are sick is a good thing. But bummer you have to put up with it. The story of Lila and the 6 Muffins will go down in your family history of memorable stories! Praying Matt is continuing to improve. With all the family helping out, he is blessed!

IRISH - I liked hearing of Kevin's bathroom remodel. I never thought of colors like Navy blue and white. Mary Q would love that! Her favorite colors. And she's single . . . ;) When we remodeled our downstairs 25 years ago, we could sit on the toilet in our master bath and look through the walls, through the laundry room, the family room, and into the garage. We are gutting the upstairs bath now (main floor of our split level) and everything but the tub goes. We had it refinished some years back and it looks OK. We are definitely painting. Going to be a very pale sage green. Behr's "Positive Energy" is the name of the color. Bill chose it. I'm just praying we don't get a call saying our chosen flooring is back-ordered! And yes, we have eagles for neighbors. We see them every year. My friend has a waterfront home about 2 miles from us, as the eagle flies, and she thinks they live close to her. With so much clearing around us for new houses it's a wonder we have any wildlife left!

BECCA, I love pink and grey together. I have a collection of them I bought a few years ago in Texas for "one of these days". But that day - or quilt - hasn't come yet. What pattern will you be using for your niece's quilt? Saying a prayer for her. And what a beauty of a day you were gifted yesterday! Are jonquils different than regular daffodils?

TINA - Well, what's the fabric closet report today? We need to see pictures when it's all done. My DWR template set has shipped! I've been working on a tablerunner using El's applique method and Easter colors. It's only 3 blocks and 8 edge pieces (1 arc each edge). One problem I am having is thread color when stitching down the arcs. I'm using a blanket stitch and grey thread and so far I've done one block and one edge piece. But not sure I'm liking the look of it and considering ripping it out and using a straight stitch instead. But not sure I'd like that any better. So I walked away from it for a while.

CAROL - when all else fails, ask Betty! That's what my DH always says. I have a 5-foot shelf filled with cookbooks and I always seem to go back to my BC book. I'm anxious to hear how your meatloaf turned out. I love watching all the hawks whenever we travel through CA. They are EVERYWHERE! We have a pair of ducks swimming on our back lawn right now and I'm enjoying them. The "pond" is seasonal, only there in the rainy season and about 50x20 feet and about 14" deep. The rest of the year it's lawn.

We still have one more meal of chili left but it can wait another night. I think I'll make pork chops and scalloped potatoes tonite, peas and maybe a salad.

Have you got any good ideas yet?

Good morning!
Mary, sounds like you all have been having quite the snowfall winter, lucky! I'm sorry about Bill's tooth, bummer. Wow, Bill is really going to town on your remodel! I bet it'll be so pretty when it's finished. Did you take before pics? I stayed up till 11 last night working in my closet, 2 straight hours....I was hurting. I took 2 ibuprofen, soaked in the tub and went to bed. I see the light at the end of the tunnel! Just hope it isn't a train LOL. Frankie has 2 more shelves to build.... I'm going to wait till he's done with those before I ask for a 3rd little one LOL shhhhhhh 🤫 I'm going to vacuum today in there since I can now see the floor. I can even see my cutting table! I have to empty the ironing board this morning. I have a huge box if trash that I cleaned out last night. I have 2 big totes to move and then Moxie will be accessible. It's been quite the process! I have decided that the comfort quilt supplies will not go back into my sewing room, there's just not enough room.... sooooo they will stay in the other bedroom closet and I'm hoping to start putting tops together soon, the completed tops will take up way less room than all the loose blocks and fabrics... I'm hoping anyway. There's still work to be done but at least by the end of today Moxie should be ready to go and my sewing machine and things I use every day. After today it'll just be little sorting things like my scraps and small things like that.
Supper tonight is leftover orange chicken, rice and salad.

Good morning!

Well, there is a Lila story, part deux! Seems as if our little Trash Panda, from the movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, her nickname, got in the pantry, found a very large bottle of hot sauce and spread it out all over the floor, couch, etc. Dear little Gracie, not wanting her little sister to be in trouble, tried to clean the mess. Aaron's description said, it looked like a major murder crime scene, that someone tried to get rid of. So after cleaning furniture and carpet, Aaron went to Lowes and changed the knob set to the pantry with a lockable one, put baby locks on all the cabinets, upper and lowers and secured the refrigerator door too. Oh the fun of a three year old!

Well, I am back to normal. That is if I was ever normal! No one degree fever, yippee, I can take my Advil and get moving again and keep the arthritis at bay. So now I have any uglies staring at me.

Mary - have you ever tried using invisible thread? There are two that are thin and not stiff. A gray one and a clear one. I have used them with the blanket stitch on my machine. I too hope your floor isn't backordered. I know the hassle Sarah went through! We have put on hold any further projects here. Need to keep some money in case we help Matt.

And as we may need some extra money, it turns out that our old company has had such a turn over in our department - retirement and people fleeing the state, that the company will have to rely more on the company that we now work through. Michael really doesn't want all the hours, but will do a few more than we are right now. Basically, if he doesn't, the whole railroad could come to a screeching halt. Michael's job is very specialized and maybe 1000 men in the country do what he does. Michael has been working for the railroad 50 years this year. Oh my!

Dinner - a pork something - I have shredded pork to use, so I will see what I conjure up.

Stay Safe!

Hugs,
Jana

Maryz - I made the Classic Meatloaf last night. I thought it had too much bread crumbs. It is a solid loaf though and it tastes good. I am looking forward to a sandwich. (Not today though because it is Lent.) Demolitions always make a big mess!!

Tina - Take it easy. Don't get too overtired. Straightening is like housework, it will wait.

Jana - Glad to hear you are feeling better. Sounds like the three year old will have lots of stories to hear about when she gets older. LOL

Becca - You are progressing well on your blocks.

Tonight will be sandwiches.

I have been sewing blocks into rows and making sashing. I need to press the seams then sew together. This is a bug quilt. I took a class from Linda Sullivan last August. I am having fun with this quilt.
